    I like the brown paper for the patterns. Right now I’m using the paper for the tables in doctor’s offices. It works ok. But I think the brown would be more stable. I can always count on your tutorials to be very clear with no guess work. And I give you kudos for your “can do” attitude related to your injury.

    I like how you sew your lining inside when your doing the quilting. Others don't, and its loose inside.

    I love your videos in general. You don't waste time at the beginning, then throuout the pace is slow enough to follow along but quick enough to not bore to tears!
    You reminded me of 'making the fabric' first, then cutting out the pieces. I applied that technique to my first mitt. I tried an 'overlock' stitch on my machine, used a size 14 topstitch needle and went slowly.
    I did not have a pattern and drafted mine from one on hand. That one is toooo big for my hand, so I altered it - problem: I cut it too small! It fits my hand but it took me over an hour to get the thumb part turned, then the tip of the thumb is too bulky, even with just a scant 3/8" seam. Lesson learned, time to try again.
    I do wish that we could print your instructions. Without that, could you ad titles to your printed page instructions - the ones you suggested we take a screen shot of? I have looked back at screen shots and wondered "now what instructions are these?"
    Sorry for the lengthy response after two years...

    Thanks for the great videos. Can you make one on pinch grip oven mitts?

  • @mellosays

    Thank you for this wonderful tutorial. I had watched many others, but was not happy with the loose lining that most people leave in the mitts. Everything you showed made sense to me and so I'll be making some mitts soon. I only have one question: can I use cotton batting for the inside material? I have a lot left over cotton batting from another project and just have been looking for ways to use it. Do you think it will be protective enough if I add a thick enough layer? Perhaps 1/4 of an inch?

    • @TheSewingRoomChannel
      @TheSewingRoomChannel  6 років тому

      Hi Caramelo. Yes you can use 3 layers of cotton batting as long as your sewing machine can sew through that many layers. Happy sewing.

    what hardware store did you buy that paper at? The only place I Have been able to find brown paper is Home Depot and it is quite wide. Gets pretty heavy when it is new..

    • @TheSewingRoomChannel
      @TheSewingRoomChannel  6 років тому

      Hi Julie. Check out that store again in the paint department. The paper is very thin and it comes in rolls 6" wide and 12" wide. Painters use this paper to cover areas so the paint will not get on it. Happy sewing.

    I made your oven mitt using the insulation you suggested and it burns your hand when taking a cookie sheet from the oven. Any other suggestion on how to change this? If I double all this I won't be able to get the thickness under the presser foot to sew all the layers together.
    Thanks
    Cindy

    • @TheSewingRoomChannel
      @TheSewingRoomChannel  7 років тому

      Hi Cindy. The manufacturer of the insulation fabric recommends layering it this way, and I don't know of any other type of insulation to use. Thank you for watching. Happy sewing.

      There is a fabric you can buy from the fabric store that has foil-like insulation on one side..you could try that. :) good luck!

    How would I add a hanging tab on the oven mitt

    • @TheSewingRoomChannel
      @TheSewingRoomChannel  7 років тому

      Hi Patty. Cut a strip of fabric about 4 1/2"L x 1 1/2"W. On the long side fold both raw edges over about 1/4" and press. Then fold in half bringing folded edges together - press and stitch together. Bring the two raw edge ends together, insert in the seam near the top of the oven mitt - stitch it in the seam. I hope this was helpful. Happy sewing.

    • @TheSewingRoomChannel
      @TheSewingRoomChannel  3 роки тому

      Hi Judy. Cut fabric 2" x 4 1/2". Fold longest edges front sides together and press. Unfold and bring the raw edges to the pressed fold line. Fold again and press. Stitch fold edges together. Fold the ends together and insert into side seam. Stay safe. Thanks for watching, and happy sewing.

    Did you skip a step? Did you zigzag stitch each side before putting them together and stitching?

    • @TheSewingRoomChannel
      @TheSewingRoomChannel  6 років тому

      Hi James. Regarding the oven mitt video -- Stitch both sides of the oven mitt together then do a zigzag stitch to bind the raw edges. Thanks for watching the video. Happy sewing.

    Another UA-cam video tutorial that does not mention using only cotton thread. I bake at 500f and would never use poly thread. Or am I the only person that knows this? I don’t think that 2 layers is burn free at 500F, neither 3 layers, but anymore than 3 layers of batting might need an industrial machine lol

    • @TheSewingRoomChannel

      Hi Racer Girl. Yes if you are sewing something that is going to be next to extreme heat, then use cotton thread. Thanks for watching, and happy sewing. 😍
