- You may have heard the expression, "stay in your lane." Well, when RED Digital Cinema created a smartphone, The RED Hydrogen One, that was a common consensus. As a matter of fact, the overwhelming majority of RED Hydrogen One Reviews had very few good things to say when the phone was stacked up against the competition. However, the one thing this phone was able to do was have something buzzworthy to talk about. Although a 3D camera, and a holographic screen were actually this phones downfall, it was still something that was talked about.
This begs a simple question, if smartphone manufactures simply took a note from this phone, and started making phones with buzzworthy features that actually worked, then could the face of the smartphone industry change?

Are the any old features on smartphones that you miss?
I miss touch ID (and the home button in general) immensely. I've hated face ID since the day it came out.

I love when a company takes risks. It reminds me of Apple circa 2002. Now theres so little innovation, everything is safe, secure, minimal risk. Hell, look at the current iphone! The design itself is a slight internal hardware upgrade, minimal software upgrades and a stagnant design. I wonder, would Jobs be cool with this?
With refurbished Hydrogen One's going for around $200...its a tank of a phone. Speck makes a bumper case for like $5. Combine the two and you have a phone that will last years. Why? Because Red/AT&T isnt pushing software updates to bloat it down. Plus, as you know, it came with very little preloaded software.
OMG!!! I remember the gimmick, the first was the SideKick! I wanted one sooo bad, but I ended up with a Razor! But when Apple and Samsung hit the seen, it was all over the phone became a mini computer and I was hooked on Android!!! I do miss the old features on the Samsung ☹ and now they are trying to make them into cinema cameras phones... 🤯🤯🤯 We've come a long way baby!!!

I miss the IR Blaster from my older Galaxy Note phones and I wish they would bring it back. This was not a gimmick it was really convenient to have your phone also doubling as your universal remote, one remote to rule them all and it's also a smartphone! The early Samsung Galaxy Note phones always had something new with each new version. Back then they weren't afraid to experiment and take risks now especially with the loss of HTC and LG Phones most smartphones look the same and don't really have nothing too exciting to make me want to really get them.
I wish more Phones would have a 3D Camera, did You ever see the 3D Stereoscopic Shots in the Library of Congress?
Pretty amazing, even if viewed today, and these Pictures are at least 100 Years old and if You view them it's almost as if You are there.
No comparison to a flat 2d Picture, even if the Resolution of it would be so high that You could see every Pore of a Persons Skin.
I don't know about You but I can View stereoscopic Pictures, and as far as I know most People do. I just wonder why not more Companys go the Route for 3D Displays and Cameras now that the Processing Power is high enough.
My Guess is that they just don't want to, because there are mouch higher Margins if you don't innovate that mouch because let's face it,
the "Innovations other Manufacturers made over the last several Years where mostly related to updated Chips which where driven by the Increase in Transistor Density,
Sensor density of the Camera-Chips or smaller Dot-Size of the Displays, including some OLED-Displays which tended to burn in.
Is that really the way to go? well not for me, because it bores me to see that every Phone is basically just like all the Others these Days,
no real Feature-Difference there, the only thing that distinguishes one over the other is if you can play Fortnite in acceptable Framerates or not.
Cameras are pretty mouch all acceptable these days if You don't Pixel-Peep and the biggest Differences are Battery-Size,
OLED or LCD and does the CPU burn your Power in Hours or in Days.
That's pretty boring in my Perspective.
I love my Hydrogen One,
purchased three of them this Year used on Ebay shipped to Germany because they where never released in Europe and where a Side Note at best in German Tech-Reviews.
I bought them, just to use them as a "Everyone can snap a Picture-Camera" for my upcoming Wedding and I am excited to view these Life-Like Pictures with my grandchildren one day.
Speaking of viewing the Pictures and Eco-System, the Company Leia, which made the Screen on the Hydrogen one brought out a Tablet
with the Newest Version of their Holographic Display and I love it to bits, they partnered with several Companys, Continental is one of them and the Chances are good that one of Your upcoming Cars will have a 3D Screen by Leia.
What I simply don't understand is why People always bash on 3d screens even before they have seen it, sure the 3D Screen on the Fuji wasn't great.
But it is 10 Years old by now and for some Reason People don't reflect that. Look at a Smartphone from 10 Years ago they weren't great either.
But enough Ranting,
