    Those buttons are actually perfectly located, styled, and type for VR. This way you can find them very easily when you can't see it based on feel and location.

      I just looked it up and you're right. Based on reddit the QR2 would require the base to be exchanged. I haven't done the conversion over to QR2s yet but kind of bad Fanatec doesn't just let it be swappable. I always figured they were.

      Got it all together after some UA-cam and Reddit lol the buttons are pretty good for VR and although the paddle shifters arnt as good they are quite for late night driving! Cheers!

    Nice rundown bro
    I was planning on just watching a sec of the video but I watched the whole thing. Much better info and quicker to learn from than the other big channels I watched imo
    Yeah I’m def going with this and not the p1
    That shifter improvement was crucial. Glad to hear QR1 isn’t terrible. Just gotta make sure my dad doesn’t bend it-he likes to really put weight down onto the wheel haha

      Thank you for sticking around. I'm still new to YT so I'm learning - it might be wrong but I like quick delivery of info lol.
      Im glad I got it. I use it any time I'm driving my car at a track and want it to feel as realistic as possible. It may not be as competitive as other wheels in sim racing but it feels realistic enough.
      I'll let you know how long the paddle shifters last, so far so good!

    Gonna pair this with a Momo MonteCarlo 380mm wheel. My Boxster, my wife's WRX has the same wheel diameter, I am using GT7 with VR for driving IRL cars with a manual shifter. My issue with the clubsport and podium universal hubs is that once you add the modular buttons, the arms of the button modules act as a spacer between the wheel and hub, and will have uneven spacing for all 6 mounting screws for the wheel. I do need at least a few buttons to connect and assign the controller to the PS5. The cleanliness is its biggest draw, and the standalone Fanatec wheels with buttons don't come in sizes greater than 320mm. I already have the GT DD Extreme wheel that came with my Clubsport DD+ bundle, its not bad but the sticks collide with my hand when rotating for opposite lock.

    • @downforcedel
      @downforcedel  2 місяці тому

      I'm glad you left this comment because I'm now looking for a new round wheel setup. I feel like I've been driving way better with a round wheel than a formula wheel so I want to upgrade from the universal hub. I was hoping the podium hub the move but I need buttons and now Im worried about the spacing

    • @electric_boogaloo496
      @electric_boogaloo496 2 місяці тому

      @@downforcedel so, wheel, hub and QR2 arrived last week. 380mm is a big for the CSL universal hub. Shifters are reachable but I have to change grip on the wheel. I am going to use with h-pattern/sequential lever anyway so not an issue for me. The buttons require me to remove one hand from the wheel completely.
      The Momo Montecarlo has a very shallow "dish" and the wheel wouldn't clear the funky switch, but I used the horn holder/cover that came with the wheel as a spacer and problem solved. The funky switch which acts like the d-pad in game menus is hard to operate because part of the wheel is still in the way, but I can live with that. Once I connect the wheel to PS5, I can use the gamepad for all the menus. The toggle switches on the hub are assigned by default to changing the mini display to select and adjust TC, Fuel mapping etc, so no issues in game. The default mapping of the funky switch is to look left/right/back, but I am in VR, I can just turn my head.
      Connection is solid, the hub is metal in all the right places.

    Good stuff! I've been eyeballing this to replace the CSL steering wheel that came in my bundle. It's not terrible but it's very noisy do to the cheap plastic build. How much damping did you notice jumping up to a 320 wheel? I actually do like the small form factor of the CSL (300mm) so I was looking at the R300 V2 bundle. I've already swapped over to the QR2 though so I may just save a little more and go with the Clubsport R300 bundle. The CSL steering wheel is fine but it certainly leaves a lot to be desired imo.

    • @downforcedel
      @downforcedel  10 місяців тому +2

      Well for me it was hard to tell if the dampening effect was from the wheel size vs the wheel weight compared to the Gran Turismo wheel I have. I am tempted to try a smaller wheel to see how much of an effect it has. Unfortunately the stand alone wheels cost quite a bit when not bundled so might have to bundle it again and have a spare hub LOL. Always want a good deal 😂.
      Agreed the CSL level leaves you wanting more but it fits the budget-minded. Say a person upgrading from a g29 and isn’t a professional, just wants to game or practice for hpde.

      The MCLAREN and WRC rim are great value and are all you need. Together they cover every type of car including stick shift ( The WRC rim comes in handy for stick shift and older cars plus classic f1 cars ) I doubt I'll ever need another rim.

    I have the csl universal hub v2 bundle with a csl dd (5nm) and I was wondering if you had any recommendations for an F1 wheel. The only rim I could find was the sparco and I was hoping for something higher quality but I don't know if that would require buying a full wheel or not.

  • @TheAngryPearl
    @TheAngryPearl 8 місяців тому +1

    Hi, great review, but I still can't decide whether to buy this or choose Clubsport Hub v2. This is a bit cheaper and doesn't have magnetic shifters, but I'm not sure that is worth paying more.

    • @downforcedel
      @downforcedel  8 місяців тому +1

      Both are a great choice and in my experience the magnetic shifters do feel better. However, since I drive mainly H-pattern to simulate real driving, the magnetic paddles weren’t worth it for me. So again, the decision depends as always. If you’re a competitive sim racer then it might be worth it if it means being faster and more consistent.

  • @mrwhatever9025
    @mrwhatever9025 10 місяців тому +1

    I've found that the McLaren wheel is faster when driving GT3 cars on AC compared to round wheels ( I have a WRC rim and a McLaren rim and those rims cover all types of cars including stick shift ) But as you said the podium is good for use with your custom rims if you own any.

    Comparing a budget “hub” to the podium because they are the same price? Need to spend extra with the podium for any sort of buttons, then extra again for shifters…. The podium cost $400 minimum (not including the wheel) when set up.
    And by “niche” do you just mean entry level???

    • @downforcedel
      @downforcedel  9 місяців тому

      It’s based on the use case. If there are people on the sim strictly for real world practice (like me) we don’t need the buttons. The keyboard and mouse works fine to navigate the menu because we don’t need to be quick between sessions nor need to make many on the fly adjustments.

    Would you suggest the csl hub with the 270mm round wheel or the gran turismo wheel for my 7yr old boy? On pc by the way.

    • @downforcedel
      @downforcedel  10 місяців тому +1

      So normally I would suggest matching the wheel size to what you drive. Since he’s 7, does he do karts or anything? The full size wheels might be a bit big for him but the gt wheel is also similar in size. I would look at maybe the smaller formula wheel that can bolt onto the hub for now and as he grows you can swap out the wheel but keep the hub

    • @ivana6141
      @ivana6141 10 місяців тому +1

      @downforcedel the smallest round wheel is the 270mm with the csl hub. I think the gran turismo wheel is a touch smaller but the grip circumference looks thicker. Your right about upgrading. Can always put a larger wheel on the csl hub as he gets older.

    @downforcedel Given a choice between CSL universal hub v2, Clubsport universal hub v2 and a podium hub + paddle shifters, what would you presonally choose / consider to be greatest value for the money? • @downforcedel
      @downforcedel  9 місяців тому +1

      Honestly, the universal hub v2 has been good enough for simracing. I've tried the podium hub at a friend's and even though it looks better, I didn't really notice a difference as far as the feel from the base to the wheel itself. There were big differences in the buttons but we hardly use the buttons when we're practicing (different story for iRacing where you need buttons for the black box, for example)

      I've never tried the P1 v2 style before so I cannot say. I will say though that the versatility is in the hub because you can put any wheel, so that makes it worth it. I'm thinking about buying a P1 to test out the differences!
