Normally I try to comment something on the video, but I just thought I should say thank you for all the work you put into your videos. I always enjoy seeing notifications from you, your commentary is really insightful and entertaining. the way you talk about games and their plots always leaves me wanting to play them once I've finished watching. Also, your voice is really soothing to listen to, making you both engaging and relaxing. Anyways, just wanted to say thank you and that your work is really appreciated, hope you have a nice day.
This was one of the first video games I got on my PS2 (I got the rest on it too and then Sly 4 on my PS4) and I still wish that there was even just news of a fifth game
I really like the video, but as an overly pedantic Sly Cooper fan I'd like to say a few things: -Murray isn't technically the "brawn" in Sly 1, he becomes the brawn in Sly 2 onward but in Sly 1 he's portrayed as a liability by Sly (literally calling him a part-time driver and full-time burden.) -Muggshot's bullets can be dodged with properly timed double jumps. -For the Mz. Ruby camera glitch, I've never experienced that problem, but I do know the game allows you to force the camera back behind Sly by clicking the right analog stick (Bentley tells you this in the first hub area), though I'm not sure if that would work there. -Panda King was moved from the first boss to the fourth during development (we know this because of the beta mentioning Sly getting Panda King's pages while in Raleigh's level), I'm not sure as to the reasons why this change was made but it's the "accepted" reason for Panda King being an easy boss fight. -They didn't actually lower the turret, Murray drove the fan through the cave and broke the turret off.
I remember when I was 12-13 yrs old my little brother (10-11) asked my dad for a game for our ps3, a game that he would like and play alone, contrary to our coop games, he got Slycooper the trilogy, 3 games for 1 (I picked destiny). So for a year after coming back from school I would or play destiny or watch my little brother play SlyCooper. To say he suffered it little, He liked it so much that even for the high dificulty still wanted to end the 3 games. Wich He almost copmpleted, if I remember right it was the third in a stage of a sorta rythim boss (?). He tried so hard that he just dropped the game completly. I on the other side laugh way to much while he played (and helped some times i guess) and enjoyed my copy of destiny
I will always love the footstep noises Sly makes whenever he sneaks around. Just the mere mentioning of Sly Cooper brings those sounds back to the forefront of my brain.
I am lucky enough to have the game and console required to play it. But I don't think I'd come back to it after remembering the hate-filled memories of the swamp levels, or even worse, the boss.
Sly Cooper was such an amazing game, it was platform perfection material for me. Thank you for making this amazing video, I hope you get to play another PS2 underrated game called Dark Cloud and Dark Chronicle, these games are also hidden gems and really cool to play, greetings from Mex Ben ☺️
I never played the sly cooper trilogy. I saw sly 3 in a store when I was little back in 2007, but I did not know the series back then until I seen clips of it online. If they could make a remastered or remake of it sometime in the future, I would play it.
I love the Sly Cooper series!! I’d love to hear you cover the second and third game as well! I actually started the series on the second game and have so much nostalgia for the series
Good to see people still talking about Sly Cooper keep up good work it's up to every fan to keep sly alive scens Sony isn't doing anything to keep sly around like wake up Sony we want sly 5 and jak 4
This was the only series of games in the PS2 era trio that I didn’t play. I played Ratchet and Clank, and played Jak and Daxter, but I never touched this one for some reason. The story is a lot deeper than I expected!
Great video, there's never enough videos talking about the most underrated of the big 3 PS2 platformer. To confirm your suspicions, the analog sticks reversing during the mobile turret sections definitely had to be a glitch with the emulator or your controller since the PS2 non emulated version and PS3 trilogy version doesn't have that problem.
Hey Ben! This was a great video, although all of them are pretty awesome! If you want to do another non-horror game, two I highly recommend are Pikuniku, a weird and funny platformer where you basically play a sentient tomato (not actually, but you look like one), and Chicory: A Colorful Tale, a great adventure game about painting, friendships, and anxiety. Thanks for making awesome videos, and I can't wait to see what you do next!
I find it funny how every single villain is poetically stupid. Every single one fights with everything BUT what they're good at and brag about. The first Rali is a mechanical specialist, yet engage in fisticuffs. The second Mugshot built up his muscles so much his legs are noodles. Yet he only fights using guns, never throwing a single punch. The third is Ruby whose all about voodoo and ghosts. Yet she fights with a projectile in a rhythm game. No curses or illusions. Forth is Panda King, a frustrated firework artist turned homicidal pyromaniac. Who throws away his entire craft and rockets for flame-fu aka discount fire ball. Fifth is Clockwork and he's the only one who did what he's good at, partly. Using Sly's feelings for a trap and removing his main and only weapon the cane. But then his main attack was projectiles. Despite being an owl. Whose greatest feat is their silence in flight. And with what the sequels tell of each part on top of his centuries. He looks on the surface as the most resourceful but in truth he's the worst. With so much time and planning and yet his plan and life was foiled because of Carmelita. Without her gadgets, weapons and help, Sly would most likely have lost or suffered immensely.
Took me a bit to sit down and watch this vid but it was a fun one. I did a binge of the Sly games last year and I eagerly await your thoughts on the rest of the series. Thanks for another fun vid man :D
I love seeing younger folks explore games that were integral to my childhood (so much so that I couldn't help reciting the boss cutscenes verbatim when they played here). Makes it really feel like a timeless joy beyond my own nostalgia.
Got myself some fond memories for this game. Smooth, sly (no pun intended) and slick, the movement is nice and fluid, the combat is easy to catch, the bosses have some nice backstory and fights, and the whole plot goes "OOOOOOH SO THAT'S WHAT'S GOING ON" when you realize who's behind the whole thing. Damn good story.
I never played this game as a kid when it came out but I'm glad you reviewed it. It seems like a lot of fun and while I'm bummed I missed out I am glad it exists.
AYYYYY sly cooper was my favourite series ever!! im surprised you dont mention that the game you talk about is the second in the series, i remember that my brother had the second and third games!
Wow, I didn't know about this game, thanks for sharing it with us! This brought me a lot of good old childhood nostalgia :3 used to play Spyro, Crash, Mario and the Pacman platformer back then! You're awesome, I really enjoy your content, keep sharing amazing games with us! ^^
I just found this channel and I've been binge watching the videos... and then I see this: A video on a childhood game that I still hold very dearly. This makes me so happy!! Especially since this game feels so obscure. I know this is a bit of a late comment, but thank you so much for this! Also, at 9:14 I remember experiencing that issue A LOT in the HD Collection version of the game, but almost never in the original version. (I know you mentioned you were emulating, but it looks like you were emulating the HD version of the game) The HD Collection tends to mess up a lot of things somehow. One of the most notorious examples being Mz. Ruby's boss fight. They remastered the song itself, but... They didn't sync the button inputs to match with the new version of the song. It's a small change, but it becomes noticeable when you're trying to play to the rhythm and your button inputs feel like they don't register, or it just feels... off. They may not sound different from memory, but I highly recommend listening to a comparison of the original and the HD Remaster's version of the boss fight song ("A Deadly Dance"). It's not the player's fault at all, just a mistake on the game's end that makes it difficult.
The funniest part to me is that its not on some fantasy planet, its just Earth. A bulldog and a raccoon fighting over part of a book in Mesa City, Utah.
omg i was beginning to think that the sneaking gameplay was similar to personas (definitely not its turn-based side lol) AND THEN SUDDENLY HEAR P3S OST. so might not be the only one to notice the similarities, but at the same time, persona osts just go hard lol. but anyways, thank you once again for introducing me to a interesting series :D i would love to see a angels of death, yuppie psycho or va11-hall-a video from you! keep up the good work!
There was another Sly Cooper game before this one, I think this might've been a remake or some sort of reboot of the series? I remember playing a different sly cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus I think it was for ps1, I got my hands on this one as well and I thought it was Sly 2 for some reason

"You're just a frustrated firework artist turn homicidal pyromaniac." - sly cooper, the best line the the game.
(16:58)
I kinda love the old trope of bosses going like “drat, you’ve defeated me!”
I want more overdramatic boss deaths where they do a silly monologue
@@someguyontheinternet8769 one just says the entirety of a cake recipe
"I feel TRANSGRESSED and VIOLATED." i love the line delivery in this game
(10:44)
Didn’t expect you to cover such a childhood classic of mine. Nice! Sly Cooper deserves recognition.
Raleigh, as well as Clockwork, Muggshot and Panda King were voiced by Kevin Blackton, a voice actor who sadly passed away in 2017.
Well the dude did a phenomenal job with all of them
Sly Cooper and the Cold Heart of Hate is such a hard title
I’m so glad you’re covering this, this was one of my favorite games as a kid!
Same!
All the sly cooper games are absolutely legendary 🙏
Well the fourth one is questionable from the story point and how it killed the whole franchise.
But it sure is good looking game.
How could you not mention the snake level? That is literally a defining memory for me.
"Stay diligent, stay true, but most of all... stay saucy, Sly."
- Sly Cooper's dad, probably.
I have nothing but good memories of playing this series and Rayman. Those two were my go-to when I was feeling for some platformers
I’m a simple man, I see Sly Cooper I’ll watch the video
Normally I try to comment something on the video, but I just thought I should say thank you for all the work you put into your videos. I always enjoy seeing notifications from you, your commentary is really insightful and entertaining. the way you talk about games and their plots always leaves me wanting to play them once I've finished watching. Loved the metal gear reference at 6:56
The hotdog Face is someone on the Dev team the other devs put in! they do little dev reference easter eggs a lot
I really like the video, but as an overly pedantic Sly Cooper fan I'd like to say a few things:
-Murray isn't technically the "brawn" in Sly 1, he becomes the brawn in Sly 2 onward but in Sly 1 he's portrayed as a liability by Sly (literally calling him a part-time driver and full-time burden.)

-They didn't actually lower the turret, Murray drove the fan through the cave and broke the turret off.
I love Sly Cooper soooo much! Thanks for doing this. You should do the next two in the series! This vid is soooo good.
Kevin Blackton does the voice of the Frog boss. He unfortunately died in 2017.
I remember when I was 12-13 yrs old my little brother (10-11) asked my dad for a game for our ps3, a game that he would like and play alone, contrary to our coop games, he got Slycooper the trilogy, 3 games for 1 (I picked destiny). I can’t believe I forgot about this game, I wish old games with outlined models stayed popular a bit longer.
I will always love the footstep noises Sly makes whenever he sneaks around. Just the mere mentioning of Sly Cooper brings those sounds back to the forefront of my brain.
10:21 i love the delivery of these two lines
Aaah I’m so happy you talked about this game! It brought back fun memories watching my older brother play it 💜
I am lucky enough to have the game and console required to play it.
Man imagine if Sly Cooper had a remake with graphics similar to Rift Apart
The Sly series needs more love and recognition, dammit
This was such a big part of my childhood, though I really enjoy the sequels more. Bloody shame we don't have more games
I never played the sly cooper trilogy. I saw sly 3 in a store when I was little back in 2007, but I did not know the series back then until I seen clips of it online. If they could make a remastered or remake of it sometime in the future, I would play it.
this game was actually gonna get a movie and when it was 75 percent done they canceled it
This game was such a huge piece of my childhood and I was not expecting you to cover it, but that just made waking up today even better!
did you know that you can jump over mugshots bullets? (In the first 2 phases) fun fact for ya
I don’t know why but the word gun makes me laugh out loud.
This was the only series of games in the PS2 era trio that I didn’t play. I played Ratchet and Clank, and played Jak and Daxter, but I never touched this one for some reason. The story is a lot deeper than I expected!
What ? That's it !? But we don't know why that owl hates the Coopers ! I need to know !!! It IS explained in the sequels right ?
Great video, there's never enough videos talking about the most underrated of the big 3 PS2 platformer. To confirm your suspicions, the analog sticks reversing during the mobile turret sections definitely had to be a glitch with the emulator or your controller since the PS2 non emulated version and PS3 trilogy version doesn't have that problem.
You should definitely cover the other 2 games in the trilogy, they're better than the first in terms of mechanics but the story is still crisp as ever
Hey Ben! This was a great video, although all of them are pretty awesome! Seeing you cover this game gives me hope that someday we’ll get a Rayman 2 (and/or3) video
Took me a bit to sit down and watch this vid but it was a fun one. I did a binge of the Sly games last year and I eagerly await your thoughts on the rest of the series. Thanks for another fun vid man :D
YYYEEESS SOMEONE TALKS ABOUTNIT
this series was my childhood, thieves in time was my first one
Been meaning to try out this series. Thanks for giving it a spotlight!
Gawd damn I only watched you Ao Oni vid not too long ago and you're already covering so many games I've fallen in love with.
i’ve heard of this game but never actually knew what it was about! now that i’m watching this, it’s honestly pretty cool!! nice video!
One of my FAVORITE GAME Franchise.
I love seeing younger folks explore games that were integral to my childhood (so much so that I couldn't help reciting the boss cutscenes verbatim when they played here). Makes it really feel like a timeless joy beyond my own nostalgia.
100% support you branching out to other games!! Enjoyed the video and can't wait to see more! :)

Getting 100% in this game is easy when you use save states in the recent PS4/5 port.
I never played this game as a kid when it came out but I'm glad you reviewed it. It seems like a lot of fun and while I'm bummed I missed out I am glad it exists.
Definitely glad you’re branching out,
I enjoy your style, and the horror stuff is cool, though I’ve certainly enjoyed this video.
AYYYYY sly cooper was my favourite series ever!!
im surprised you dont mention that the game you talk about is the second in the series, i remember that my brother had the second and third games!
looking at it more i realize the game visuals confused me JINFDVOIJN

I love the topics you cover! Also the Hotel Dusk music is so nostalgic. Keep the hidden gem reviews comming!
very gud video, keep at it
Common Ben again w also I loved the sly cooper series (even the white never got past the second hub world)

I have been watching your videos and I saw you covering this game! One of my favorite ps2 series!!!
Finally the best youtuber covers the best platformer
The funniest part to me is that its not on some fantasy planet, its just Earth. A bulldog and a raccoon fighting over part of a book in Mesa City, Utah.
I just beat this game for the first time in years the other day! What a fun coincidence!
this was a nice video, I wouldn't mind more stuff like this
Fun fact, the voice actor for Rawley also voiced muggshot, talk about range!
YEAHHHH THE COOPER MAN
omg i was beginning to think that the sneaking gameplay was similar to personas (definitely not its turn-based side lol) AND THEN SUDDENLY HEAR P3S OST. so might not be the only one to notice the similarities, but at the same time, persona osts just go hard lol. but anyways, thank you once again for introducing me to a interesting series :D i would love to see a angels of death, yuppie psycho or va11-hall-a video from you! keep up the good work!
Maybe the only PS2 platformer I never played. Gonna be a great vid
I remember watching a video of this years ago. I never played this as a kid, but it is an interesting gamr
LETS GOOOO NEW VIDEO
would love to see more sly cooper on the channel :)
Ah my childhood, I'm ready for this video!
I am weary interested in you making videos for the sequels
Everytime you said "Sly" all i heard was "slime" and i was 100% ready to just accept that the racoon's name was Slime. Also Sly has a really hot voice
It's Ben again!
I feel like one day he will review the entire BioShock series and gush about the art direction for 20 minutes before leaving the opening area
There was another Sly Cooper game before this one, I think this might've been a remake or some sort of reboot of the series?
I remember playing a different sly cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus I think it was for ps1, I got my hands on this one as well and I thought it was Sly 2 for some reason
I always enjoyed the sly cooper games with all they have to offer to the player
I would want to see more on your thoughts on the story and game design for the other sly cooper games
This makes me very happy
Damn, this looks interesting. I actually just had two PS2's (wtf is even the plural for that) lying around from both of my parents. I kept one and sold one, but I don't have a controller to play with, so when I go shopping for a new controller, I'll be sure to buy this game. Also have to say that the cel-shading looks awesome, I have always have been a fan of cel-shading and I think it should be in more games for the Switch or whatever else comes after it. Great video as always, and the Discord's lookin good and chaotic.
I do highly recommend the first three entries of the series, if you’re looking to get into it. There also is a PS3 version of these games if that is more accessible for you. The games manage to strike a great balance of skill and accessibility and manages to keep things fresh throughout. The first game is a little bit more difficult but it’s a blast all the same.
Do you plan to cover other sly cooper games?
I'm hoping you're cover the other games, I swear no one talks about them any more
I hope you cover the rest of the games at some point, because I feel that there is seriously a lack of sly cooper content on youtube.
this is a really cool video
Oh oh oh! I have both the original of all the games and the PS3 re-release, and I've played them lots, so I think I can add a little clarity to the control issue: its purely emulation or an odd setting. When played on console, especially the collection, I found the controls as good as ever tbh? And the swamp is actually my fave - I hate hate fighting mugshot. No room for error. I think later games made the right choice in leaving the Charm system behind, but as much as I dislike a few of the driving minigames, the controls were never an issue in any of them outside Murray's dumb car race sections.
The AI is worse because the banding is just terrible, I think. Kinda like how Boggy can demolish you in Banjo Kazooie if you race ahead of him too far. Just my two pennies, though. Glad to see people giving a classic series I love more attention. :)
Edit: Oh, and I've love more on the other games.
you should definitely go over the other games at some point!! also the jak series!
Its funny how you say that they had to lower the cannon and just didnt use it in the 2nd clockwerk section when the real story is that because murray was driving through such a short tunnel that the turret got destroyed.
Ah yes, praise for my all time favorite game trilogy
4:03 wait did he just say SHE
I played this game when I didn't know english and there aren't any dubbed version to this day. I played the game by visual ques only without knowing the narative. Even though I didn't understand what was going on, I had fun time playin this game back in the PS2 days. Understanding some of the narative now makes me kind of kiddy.
Please cover the sly cooper games that would just be so cool
bruh what a coincidence, im literally recording sly cooper on my channle now XD
If you wanna cover more platformers I'd suggest Conker's Bad Fur Day.
I came back from scout camp and then went here and watched this
10:04 so the word "yappin" exist even before brain rot, well thats neat
