Thanks to several comments. The stand as used in this video will block parts of the rear vents on the computer. It makes the fans work harder in response. Either put the computer in front first or try a different stand. (I’ll be removing the links)
Has the traditional idea of not closing over the keyboard when the laptop is on become a thing of the past? I was always advised that the keyboard gaps are a route for heat dissipation by convection and radiation. Or maybe I’ve just been taught wrong!
The Dell laptops (and most others tbh) have a large vent on the hinge under the screen. You should always have the laptop open when in operation. Plus why would you not want to make use of Dell's excellent screens?
Hi!!! Just quick update you can also use PS4 remote controller to play in any PC. Press the power button and share until the light start blinking and that will show it in the Bluetooth menu
@@mim21112 Not really. It has native windows support so it works fine. A lot of games don't have in-game support so it's best to use DS4Windows to make the PC think it's an XBox controller though.
I've been using Windows laptops (Dell, Sony, Toshiba, HP, Asus, Lenovo, etc) for multiple decades and all of them had numerous ports to attach accessories for my photography needs. I always laugh at my Mac friends who live the dongle life. My current 15.6" Asus Zenbook Windows laptop also has numerous ports including a full size SD card reader plus HDMI and USB ports plus comes with killer 4K resolution screen and a track pad that doubles as a 2nd monitor, plus 16GB ram and 1 TB SSD. Best part is the $1,600 price tag that is now on sale for couple hundred cheaper. There is no way a Macbook can come close.
The designer keyboard has its arrow keys blended in with other keys, I got one, very annoying, needed to look at where the arrow keys are all the time. I won't touch it again.
You might consider the Logitech MX Keys. I spilled a drink into my Microsoft keyboard and decided to upgrade to the Logitech MX Mouse and Keyboard. They have been terrific!
Love your channel but funny how excited you get for the the ability to update the internal ram and hard drive. Plus your excitement on the SD card which is fairly standard on PC laptops. Guess coming from a Mac everything is an upgrade
I would suggest spending the extra money and get the Dell Business Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) Dock - TB16 with 180W Adapter as you can plug one cable from the dock into your XPS 15 to charge and connect up everything that is connected to the dock
Great Video. How does the Sleeve fit the laptop? Is it snug or does it wiggle around in there? I have heard people buying sleeves for the 9500 and it being too big. Please let me know. Thanks and keep up the great work with these videos!
Good video, but why would you show "cheapo" accessories for an XPS 15, which is an expensive computer? For the keyboard the Logitech K780 is better, because it is switchable between 3 devices, has good key feel, and has a notch in front in which you can put a smart phone or tablet, so you can switch between the XPS 15 and a smartphone quickly, on-the-fly. For the mouse, recommend MX Master 3. Much better action, and can use it on any surface -- clear glass, fabric, etc.
Great video! I have recently bought this pc and found out it's touch and has a tablet mode. I'm considering maybe getting a pen or exploring apps that are good for touch mode but since it's not a 2-in-1 laptop and you can't fully lower the screen, it's not very ergonomic. Do you know of any type of accessory-support to lean the screen against or something like that for when I lower it to as max as I can? I'm so afraid of putting too much pressure on it and breaking it...
I will add a webcam or better video camera for those who use zoom, Skype, or video calling, and a second monitor that s able to travel as well. This is option use power bank that is able charge the laptop when there is no wall plug near ny.
If you ever do transfers to a new camera, a way to speed it up since the XPS 15 already has an SD card slots get a USB C SD card dongle, it’ll save you a bit of time when transferring photos/videos from one SD to another
Fantastic Video! Can you tell us if the touchscreen XPS 15 can lie flat? It is a weird question, but I am a musician and would like to use it on a music stand and I am not an apple guy... Thanks again for your great vids!!
I subscribed because ur starting to like windows, especially XPS 15 which im looking forward to get :) MAKE MORE VIDEOS ABOUT THIS! *can u please upgrade the ram and cpu then compare the video editing speed with the previous one? Thanks!
Hey! Been looking at these for a while now, might pull the trigger soon, I use the Dell km717 keyboard and mouse, they’re super accurate, last ages on the batteries and have a really nice typing feel, similar to a apple keyboard. I used them on every workstation and laptop I use, with the swappable channels, I have one for iPad Pro, one for my laptop, and one for the desktop.
Glad I found you, very helpful! Had this for about a year, but yet to maximize its features and accessories. I would love to see you do a video on the Premier Pro with the XPS 15 :)
Doesn't the XPS line exhaust air below the screen? So outputting to an external monitor using that stand and closing the laptop wouldn't be a good idea if doing any intense tasks like video editing or gaming.
Have you had issues with the battery/charger? My battery seems to die quite quickly, doing very basic tasks. Also the charger *quite often* will I guess lose connection randomly?? The little LED light that shows the laptop is charging turns off randomly, with no movement to dislodge it... It shows on the battery icon that it's getting a charge, but you can see it dying faster than it's "charging". I think I might need a new charger...
I'm looking for an accessory to power on the laptop without open the lid and click the power button. I need this because I use the laptop as desktop replacement connected to an external monitor and keyboard. So, I hate open the lid just to power on the computer. Any idea? Thanks 😉👍🏻
Do you prefer Windows or Mac os? That's probably the main deciding factor. I got the macbook pro because I do alot of photo editing & prefer adobe software on mac. The build quality of the macbook is rly nice, display is great, nice keyboard etc.
Like Liam said it depends on what OS you like. I have the XPS 15 9570 and it's pretty good only problem with this model is the heating and fan but otherwise it's amazing. I do mostly a lot of coding and its handled it well compared to my previous laptop. I heard the XPS 15 is also good for photo/video editing and such. All in all, it depends on what you want to use the laptop for. If you're doing simple things like checking emails, watching videos, I'd suggest not spending so much on a XPS or Mac. But hey if you have the money and have requirements you have, you think only the XPS or Mac cant satisfy. Then go for it!
The best accessory for a Dell XPS 15 is a Lenovo P1. Seriously, get anything other than this computer. I've ordered three of these Dell machines (the most recent arrive Dec 23, 2020) and every one of them has shown up with a defective trackpad and had to be returned even though I ordered all of them long after Dell claimed to have stopped shipping units with this problem. If you want to pay a premium price for a laptop with no QC and a seriously defective part, the Dell XPS 15 is the machine for you. However, for those of you who don't want to give your money to a company that has so little respect for its customers that they are still shipping units that don't function properly ten months after the computer was first released, save yourself the frustration and look elsewhere.
The Bluetooth dongle comes with all xps 2020?? I just bought my xps yesterday and was looking for something Bluetooth to connect things to like mouse and keyboard.
I have 2 Questions to the vertical Stand. 1. Normaly a Laptop shutdown when you close it, but the XPS 15 not? 2. Do you always put it out of the Stand to Start it? Over how to you use it in the Stand?
@Michael, 1. You can always configure that behavior in Windows. 2. With a Dell dock (like the WD19TB) you can turn the laptop on/off via a button on the dock.
Does the laptop stand not completely overheat and throttle the XPS when its under load with its lid closed? I thought these devices exhaust the hot air through the top of the keyboard deck near the screen hinge (or atleast my 9570 does). I would love to find a laptop stand to slightly tilt my 9570 without completely choking the air intakes.
Man, you make it sound as if the SD card slot is more important than the computer! I don't use it at all. For me USB A ports would have been way more useful.
@The Everyday Dad what mouse do you think is good for xps 15 because its dosent have the spot for normal usb and wireless mouse has those usb to connect with the laptop?
hi can you do a Review & Benchmarks on a dell 3501 11th gen i7 with iris xe i have one and would like to know if it good or not mine seems slow in some things and fast in other things i have done few benchmarks test and with same cpu as mine is about 1100 point below what others cpu of same got
Thanks to several comments. The stand as used in this video will block parts of the rear vents on the computer. It makes the fans work harder in response. Either put the computer in front first or try a different stand. (I’ll be removing the links)
This is easily rectified by flipping the laptop around! Put it on the other edge so the fans aren't obscured. (I have the same stand and I love it)
Has the traditional idea of not closing over the keyboard when the laptop is on become a thing of the past? I was always advised that the keyboard gaps are a route for heat dissipation by convection and radiation. Or maybe I’ve just been taught wrong!

hi, if the pc is in the stand behind the monitor how do you turn on the laptop? is there a way to turn it on without opening the lid?
Thanks
1:37 you can tell you're a former mac user when including standard functionality out the box is like some luxury
Get a backpack with a laptop sleeve. Saves a lot of time for those of us who actually carry around our laptops regularly.
True that, I use an actual cloth material briefcase from dell for 15" laptops. I can fit alot of shit in there
@@justauser from amazon?
I’m not a Windows guy, but let’s hear it for an SD card slot! 🙌🏼
Looks like an awesome machine with lots of cool gear to go with it.
Hi!!! Just quick update you can also use PS4 remote controller to play in any PC. Press the power button and share until the light start blinking and that will show it in the Bluetooth menu
Dang, thanks for the tip!
I think the PS4 controller need to use other software to get it work right?
@@mim21112 Not really. It has native windows support so it works fine. A lot of games don't have in-game support so it's best to use DS4Windows to make the PC think it's an XBox controller though.
You know, not weird at all! I always search for YKK zippers too 😂
Easily the best zipper company around 🤣👍
Yeah just like, "You figured it out and I figured it out 😂"
@@TheEverydayDad But I figured out one more thing! You are obsessed with the SD Card Slot 😂
Yup! Nothing worse than a quality sleeve having its usage life shortened on account of zipper failure! For want of a nail, so on and so forth!
Finally found a guy who speaks genuinely
When you open your XPS you should replace thermal paste with for example gc extreme or thermal grizzly kryonaut. You should get 5-10C improvement.
Will put some Kryonaut in mine when I open it up in a year or so to upgrade the SSD (I estimate it'll need an upgrade then).
To answer your question, my favorite tool for my 15 inch xps is the dell tb16.
I've been using Windows laptops (Dell, Sony, Toshiba, HP, Asus, Lenovo, etc) for multiple decades and all of them had numerous ports to attach accessories for my photography needs. I highly recommend the Microsoft Designer Keyboard. It's perfect for the XPS. Looks great.
The designer keyboard has its arrow keys blended in with other keys, I got one, very annoying, needed to look at where the arrow keys are all the time. I won't touch it again.

I check every single day for it to be open for preorder. I'm very excited for the 17 inch.
Imagine my dismay when I realized not all zippers are equal in quality....(for real). Nice travel setup.
The desk looks great too.
I got the exact same mouse as in the video
Thanks for reminding me that it came with a dongle. I've been going crazy trying to hook up wireless keyboard/mouse.

Worth spending the extra money on the new 9500 vs getting a deal on the 7590 from last year?
I just bought one of these and stumbled across your website and really enjoyed this video
You dont have any problems with yours?
Thanks again for leaving out the so common UA-camr music track and a great review overall, EveryDay Dad.

Pretty big fan of my 2018 XPS! Have you tried a docking station? The tb16 works well but has some bugs
I haven’t, but maybe if I buy one with a gpu for my editing rig I’ll get one 👍
The current WD19TB fixed all the issues with the previous docks and is quite excellent.

Great video as always. You have an trackpad issues. A lot of people say it’s lose. Mine is
The Lacie drives are certainly rugged - the USB slot seems not to be very snug though - always slipping out - maybe I got a bad batch.
I heard that the xps has to partially vent through the keyboard, so wouldn't it be a bad idea to clamshell it?
