  • Today its time to throw objectivity out the window! I'm a huge fan of the XPS 15 and think its one of the best computers I've ever gotten ahold of, its super small, very powerful, and has one of the best displays you'll find.
Why is it so amazing and why should you buy one?

I love my XPS 15 9500. Just started to use it this Monday. Mine is i7, 16GB RAM, 1TB + Premier Sleeve 15-XPS + office home and student. It's around 2430 euros (my wife is angry about this price) in Spain. Personally, I think the trackpad is too big and sometimes I press it when I'm typing. This small problem can't stop me to love this powerful and elegant laptop.

She should be mad, you could’ve saved. I strongly believe unless for unique purposes only desktops should be that price, because it would out spec any laptop at that price by far. Could’ve just gone with the base and brought your own upgrades.... mine cost $1300 after savings (4K is ridiculous on a laptop imo) and brought 32gb ram and 2tb storage for $350

just bought one. at first i was disgusted by the uncontrollably wild touchpad and the annoying noise the clicks make. but when you set the sensitivity to low it kindof transforms into something that is actually usable.. and when you use the whole surface of the touchpad and not just to bottom corners, there is no noise from the clicks. i'll probably have to get used to it, and obviously it behaves differently than a trackpad on mac. cheers

Bro I can really see that you are loving that 2020 xps! I had a chance today to test out a friends brand new 2019 15" xps. He got a better deal on it and went with that one instead..it had 4k touch, 32gb ram,and the i7 six core cpu...he dropped it off and said here , play with it for 2 hrs and I'll swing by later...Right off the bat ,I was very disssillusioned with it and not impressed as a whole..And That, shocked me! I had asked him what he thought of it and he said "mehh, its ok, but Im not blown away" I didnt understand that reaction till I tried it myself and I hve to agree..t costed 2,200.00 and for That much money , with the specs it had, we both expected More..To be fair to it, it wasnt the one ur testing which has some improvements on it, but its damn close...The good things? ,well, the screen, i gotta say, looked great, not quite stunnin g but very very good.the speakers sounded great and had high detail, the build was like a work of art and bland at the same time.. it weighed a ton for its size..The negatives we found were the thermals were aweful.
fan s kicking on almost right away although low and not annoying but continous just web surfing...when watching youtube, the damn fans built up to a roar and stayed that way and Were very intrusive...the chassis was uncomfortably hot and thats just watching youtube!..the trackpad, well I own a ton of macs and even my old macbook pro 2011 has a
Far superior feel to the pad and operates so smoothly compared to the dell..No comparison here, at least concerning the 2019 xps..scrolling was jittery and sluggish..Overall, with all that cpu and ram and nvme drive ect, the dell felt barely faster than my older macs and windows computers...certainly Not fast enough to Feel the difference to any great degree and not worth the big money spent...I put the dell back in the box after an hr of surfing and had lost interest in it..I booted up my 2011 mac pro and ,for Me, it was More enjoyable to use for my purposes...websurfing and youtube.
Granted, you Dont usually buy and xps for that, and as far as productivity goes, of course the xps would mop the floor with that older mac......but it wasnt as much fun to use....Maybe the 2020 is a hella lot better, But my friend is gonna box this one up and go with a less expensive laptop for his use..he felt it wasnt worth the cost to spend so much.

Here's a video suggestion. The XPS 15 base that you have has the smaller battery and a lot of people have been asking whether it can be user-upgraded to the larger battery. Some reviews have said that it can be, there's a report on Reddit that it can't. How about a video showing/disproving that upgrade?

  • @RadicalAwakening
    @RadicalAwakening 4 роки тому +1

I think you would be BLOWN AWAY if you swapped that 9500 with the model with the 6 core processor and nvidia graphics card. THE unit would then be able to FULLY utilize your upgraded ssd and ram. It would be a BEAST. It would also future proof your laptop. The performance would immediately show in your video editing, and you could run the most current, and not just older video games (as demonstrated and specked without heat problems on Tally Ho's channel). I have been a fan of yours for a long time, so thank you!!, BTW, my suggestion comes from being a XPS 15 owner (and lover) for the past four years. In that time period I have spilled Pepsi on the keyboard, dropped the computer a marble floor, bent the power cable input and has the motherboard replaced, blew out the processor and board by leaving in a bag (while on) in a car that got over 115 degrees. When I bought the computer, Dell offered a free 2 year PLUS warranty (for $100 I extended it for 4 years, negotiated by the rep on the Dell Chat ) Dell not only replaced and fixed everything for free, but a technician was at my house within 24 hours. One incident happened in Canada, and Dell Canada came to the place I was staying!! Last month I used the wrong cleaner on my track pad (which worked fine for 4 years)and they came to my house to replace the track pad (again within 24 hours and for free).Try getting that kind of service with Apple!! I am planning on getting the new XPS (hopefully the 17 inch, when the prices go down). Here is a tip to your viewers...put your configured XPS (if you are a content creator, make sure you get the 6 core i7 and nvidia card), and go to the chat and ask for a discount ( sound hesitant to buy). Give your cart # to the sales rep. They usually will get back to you with a discount.

    Hey Gary,
Nico here. A little tip from an XPS 15 "veteran".
Batteries on XPS 15s are rated for 300 cycles while on Macbook around 1000 cycles.
Fortunately, the battery on XPS 15 are not glued or anything like that so it's really easy to pop it off and replace with something original (or compatible) from amazon (so you can upgrade ram, storage, in my case wifi-chip and battery).
It costs around 150€ (prices fluctuate, and for 56Wh is way cheaper than 99Wh or 86Wh ones) so if someone has to buy this laptop should be aware of that. Originally I thought that there was a bug with the power controller that wore out the batteries but after some research on dell forum and technical reviews (like notebookcheck) I did my math and understood that it was the way these batteries work.
In 3 years I have already changed the battery laptop once (the first one completely wears out on the job) and the current one is already at 60% of wear out. This is my main laptop so I charge it daily and probably I have to spend extra 150€ to get original battery life.

Great video. I have seen many videos saying that there is a screen blackout issue while connecting to the power source. Did you experience any? some say it's because of the HDR issue. I also would like to know your comments on the fan sound and face recognition. Thanks

Have you had a chance to check out any recent high-end Lenovos such as the P53, P1, or Carbon X? When I go through customization options on both Dell and Lenovo, I'm able to get the same power/memory etc. for less money with Lenovo. Thinkpads do have a more boxy/conservative look but that's not an issue for me. Just wondering if you have any thoughts on pros and cons.

How is the build quality? I've been a Dell guy for years, and would give a little refresh with RAM and hdd along the time. Currently with a Vostro, my problem is that the plastic material is not very durable to allow many times of opening up the casing during my ownership. Screen hinges broken twice, screw holes broken, among others. XPS is an expensive series, would not want to experience the same thing again.

You never mentioned refresh rate. At 1080P it is still at 60Hz. I get that it's not a gaming unit but with the GPU offered it should do better. Plans for 120Hz or better?

OK so this is a bold, but probably fair recommendation. But what about us that already have a 16” MacBook Pro? Is it that good that we should sell the MBP or is this comment aimed at those people that don’t have either?

Thanks for all your work on the channel. Question, this vid is on the 10 generation i9 new 2020 model, working out for 32 ram 1T for £2399. Wound you say there’s much difference to getting the 9th generation i7 model and adding 32 ram and 1 T memory for £1769? That’s a big saving, main use is for photo editing using Capture One and some GoPro editing. Many thanks if you do get time to answer.

Thanks for the cool video. I am trying to decide between the base Xps 15 with a 16 gb ram and the i7 model with a graphics card. Now, i mostly use my laptop for school works and do some 1080p video editing on premier pro during the weekends. Is the i5 non graphics 16 gb able to handle it ? Or should i spend the extra bucks for the i7 with graphics card?

How does screen resolution work? Me personally prefer the XPS 15 over MacBook pro 13, XPS 15 resolution is 1920* 1200, MacBook pro 13 is 2560*1600, but I heard Netflix doesn't do higher than 1080p, if I watch a 480p YT video, will both laptops show the same resolution.... How does it work y'all?

Check out some benchmarks. 17 is not as giant as it seems, It's only slightly larger than the MacBook Pro 16 - so you'll definitely be able to fit it into your backpack. 4K screen makes more sense at that size, there's better cooling, and an RTX2060. If you need the performance, XPS17. If not, just save some money and space in your backpack and get the XPS15. It's a solid performer with a stunning design.
