Thank you, you’re the first person that I have seen propagate and was genuine. I had to subscribe. I live in Ireland 🇮🇪 where the weather is not too good. Someone I loved died last year. I can take cuttings but feared I would do them wrong. I will do what you have done. Your garden is beautiful. Thank you, Catherine 👍
Well done. Informative, instructional, & concise. Appreciate you showing us the "bud setting", you taught us how to propagate &'properly grow & care for these beautiful plants. Thank you.
This is the best I've ever seen on UA-cam and I will definitely try it. Thanks for your knowledge and wisdom in propagating. Very nicely spoken and very well explained. Blessings from my heart
As a new self-proclaimed hydrangea addict I thank you! This will save me a fortune (if I can stop rescuing them at the nursery). Also coming to you from just north of Oscoda :-) Hope you're keeping cool this summer.
Hey Leisa! Thanks for stopping by my channel! Love the Oscoda area. I love hydrangeas too. Hoping the humidity goes away soon. Summer is going way too fast!
Ive never tried to take cuttings before off my Hydrangers but after watching how easy you make it look l will certainly try it soon Thank you.Yours are lovely.
I was given some cuttings of hydrangeas to try cuttings with , I’ll do some in water and some in a potting mix with root hormonal and see what works better for me , first time doing hydrangeas, fingers crossed 🤞.
😻✋hi, I just found your channel. I liked and subscribed. I will definitely be trying to propagate my hydrangeas. Thanks for the video. I look forward to watching more gardening videos.
Hello Dear Lady, I LOVE hydrangeas!!!! I have a couple large plants that I took from root cuttings They are about 4 to 5 feet wide and nearly 4 feet tall. We cut them to about 1 foot in the fall and they come back every spring with a vengeance. They are Huge mop heads they start green then Lighten to Big white heads as summer advances they go to sort of Lime green. I like them best as White I have given starts of these Ladies across the last 5 years. I admire the paniculata types You give me courage to try to grow some of those Rick
How do you know when they’re established enough to go in the ground? I’m SE Texas. We only get freezing temps a few times each winter and my at my previous home did awesome. My home now only has a few shady areas. So I’m going to try some Limelight variety in the sunnier areas and shade loving variety in my shady spots.
I can’t wait to try this. Thanks for making this so easy. I’m adding my supplies to my Amazon cart now. Can I just keep my container of cuttings in my garage or will that get too hot?
I love them but my aunt had them on both sides of the stairs when you walk up on the porch I mean they just big and colorful but watch out the bees love them and they will get you when they are pollinating
Thanks for the tip! My oak leaf hydrangea I have one that gets shade during the hot day and one in the south east gets morning and some afternoon sun. That one has never bloomed but the one that is more later sun already bloomed this year. I just planted last year. The other is a couple years old. Thanks again for watching 🥰🌸💚
I have tried overwintering a few things and I end up with aphids and white flies. It’s so annoying. Just propagate early in the season to get them in the ground to get established before winter. Thank you for watching 🌸😊
I just found your channel today. New subscriber from southern Ontario zone 6a. I was really impressed with how you explained everything. How long do you think it will be till they are about a foot tall. TFS 🇨🇦👩🌾🌸
Hi Wilma, thank you for your support. Probably within a couple months. I need to protect my young hydrangeas in the winter from the rabbits 🐇 they love to eat them in the winter. Good luck with your propagation 🥰🌺♥️
Hi Linda, I like these from Amazon gonicc 8" Professional Premium Titanium Bypass Pruning Shears (GPPS-1003), Hand Pruners, Garden Clippers.- amzn.to/3RJRXHu They are on sale right now too! Thank you for watching 😊
For hot climates put in morning sun but with afternoon shade and lots of watering on the hotter days. They can handle more water when the temperatures are hot! Thank you for watching 🥰🌺💖
I would suggest in the fall. Not sure if your ground freezes but up north they suggest planting 6 week before the ground freezes. Early spring or late fall is best. Hope this helps 🥰🌸💖
Hi I think they started rooting after a couple weeks. I think I left them in the box for a month. I still have them in pots and need to get them planted in the ground soon. All bushes should get planted 6 weeks before the ground freezes. If you’re in a southern climate there isn’t a rush to get them planted since the ground doesn’t freeze. Thank you for watching 😊🌸🌺
Hi Judy, I currently don’t. If I try now it won’t make it through the winter being in Michigan. I will have to investigate and prepare for next spring for the video! Thank you for the suggestion 😊🌺
I’d like to try it. Great video. I have a question about Invinciball Blush hydrangeas . I just planted a few - in amended soil, part sun area, I added some Hollytone to it - and one died already. They get water in the morning from my sprinkler…but not a blast (more of a low mist). One more is not doing well. Any thoughts or ideas? Thanks.
Hi Linda! Thank you for watching. Maybe too much hollytone? It probably didn’t need it if you amended the soil. I have some he invinciball blush & lime. I didn’t add any fertilizer and I haven’t given any yet. I’ve had the 2 years I think. Try less or no hollytone. I hope it works for you.
@@gardeningatthesimongettinorth thanks! That’s what I get for listening to Martha Stewart - she was emphasizing the fertilizer. I thought it might have been a water issue - but it happened in just a week! You may be right! You seem to know your hydrangeas. I swore I’d never buy one again that bloomed on old wood “cause for me they bloom and bloom for several years - then all leaves for a few years - then blooms. So unpredictable! I wrote to Proven Winners also - maybe I can get a refund or another plant to try. Thanks for your great channel.
Hi Linda, hopefully Proven Winners will work with you. I probably wouldn't mention the hollytone. The incrediball & Invincibelle (smooth) hydrangea's bloom on new wood. It's the macrophylia types that bloom on old wood. Paniculata's bloom on old and new wood. Good luck with your hydrangeas. They are one of my favorites!
Hi! Thank you for stopping by. A Bobo hydrangea is a paniculata. I have a paniculata but not a Bobo. My bushes are still in winter hibernation. I need to wait until this years growth starts.
Hi. If you drill 2 or 3 3/4 inch holes in the lid it will allow sufficient ventilation to prevent mould and rotting and yet still keep the humidity high enough to keep the cuttings hydrated.
How did you pre-moisten the vermiculite/perlite? How much water in container to start? I know you have holes in the bottom of both so just looking for a starting point.

We are in Maine. If we were to take cuttings now, allowing them to start rooting, kept in the house, they would start growing in dead of winter. Hi, To be honest I haven’t tried growing cuttings this late in the season and grow them indoors. Maybe if you let them go dormant somewhere they won’t freeze? Then bring them out of dormancy indoors and grow them until you can plant them outside. Good luck if you decide to try it 😊🌺

Can you propagate the Arborescens Varieties the same way ? I know the 'Incrediball' flowers on New Wood, and your demo flowers on Old Wood... or is it just easier to divide them ? Great Info !
Thank you for watching and yes you can propagate the Arborescens varieties the same way the only one that didn’t work was the oak leaf variety. It depends on the variety? If it’s a paniculata it flowers on old & new wood. Macrophylias only bloom on old wood. They set their blooms for the following year in August. You have to be careful to not cut next years blooms. I was only showing for pruning purposes not for a vase. If you want cut flowers cut them to fit your vase.

I know how torpor my question is how to keep alive after you put in pots
Keep them watered and for the winter have them protected from the harsh winter. Transplant as they get bigger.
But those are regular hydrangeas, you are supposed to show limelight hydrangeas
FYI, these hydrangeas are patented plants and it is unlawful to propagate them, even for your own personal use, or to share with anyone.
Ok I looked it up and yes it is unlawful but lax law enforcement of patent infringement against individual customers indicates that propagation limitations primarily impact commercial plant sellers.
I’m showing how it can be done and not selling. Thank you for your concern and propagate at your own risk!
@@gardeningatthesimongettinorth I would still be nervous about it as you are putting this out there publically on You Tube. Yes, at your own risk.

I do not care but.. The plants propagated are patented. Perhaps not identifying them by name will keep letters from Lawyers away. Good description.

Pretty sure it's okay unless you sell it. Propagation happens naturally, so it's just helping the natural process.
Propagation isn't illegal. It's only illegal if she sells it. I'm going to start propagating mine this year.
