    You've saved me $30 on MainStage! Thanks for the foolproof tutorial. Yours is the least indulgent and most helpful live looping Logic tutorial on UA-cam.

      @@swonic I saw in another comment somewhere that you use MainStage primarily and I assume you like that software. I may not have looked deeply enough, but if you haven't already made any tutorials on MainStage, would you consider demoing your layout and setup and the things you consider in your looping work? Loopback looks archaic but it seems like there are some really smart things youve been able to do with it

    • @swonic

      Unfortunately I haven’t done any MainStage tutorials yet. Might do one in the future. However, my setup in MainStage has been changing for almost every video. The Loopback plug-in is very limited compared to the Logic Live Loops options. Biggest advantage of MainStage is stability and that it’s really easy to setup controls for everything. Biggest disadvantage compared to Logic is that there is no MIDI looping. But Audio looping is more stable anyway.

    Thank you thank you thank you!
    This information is what I've needed to enjoy actually -playing- music again, instead of just defaulting to clicking things in. This is still pretty tedious if you've multiple parameters to assign to a single hardware knob or fader (we all know deep down that dropdown menus suck (pun intended)), so I made a hotkey for adding a parameter mapping while stacking midi information on a single knob and bypassed needing to navigate the menus. It's super-fast, and you can have your entire controller mapped in 2 minutes
    Thank you again for helping restore my passion for creating instead of just clicking

    Still a very usefull video. Thanks so much. Well explained!!! I miss one important piece of information, though. How is the (re)mapping information stored? Logic Pro globally (since you assing short cuts and controller surfaces)? Or is this information also stored in the project? In other words, when I close and open my project, does it load all the configured mappings? This would be a pain if I have to do this every single time. It would be nice that I can store different mappings for different projects.

    • @swonic
      @swonic  11 днів тому

      Thanks for your comment! Key Commands and Controller Assignments in Logic Pro are stored globally, not per project. This means they persist across all projects, so you don’t need to reconfigure them every time. For project-specific mappings, you can use Smart Controls, which are saved with each project. If you use certain setups often, creating templates can save time and streamline your workflow. Hope this helps!

      Awesome. Great you like it 🙌 a tutorial dedicated to Logic Pro and Launchpad X is on my list! I just want to collect a couple of tricks and workflows before, so it has some more value. There are a few tutorials already out there, also on the Novation UA-cam channel. Would you like to see a Launchpad X solo tutorial video or using it together with other controllers? Or both? 🙃

    also forgot to ask, I am assuming that the dynamic controls LEARN function in logic applies to MainStage also ?

    • @swonic
      @swonic  4 роки тому +2

      Oh, Dynamic Controls was initially developed for MainStage! Most of my performance videos were made using MainStage and Dynamic Controls. I only started to use Logic Pro a lot for performing after the 10.5 Live Loops update - so yes! Dynamic Controls works really well with MainStage. And creating custom controls in MainStage is much easier and self explanatory compared to Logic Pro if you have any specific questions, feel free to ask 😎

    • @swonic
      @swonic  Рік тому

      I'm not sure, what kind of visual feedback you are looking for? Buttons lighting up corresponding to commands in Logic? I don't own a Akai APC so I'm not sure if that's possible. Does APC receive midi information?

    • @Sentientfx1
      @Sentientfx1 Рік тому

      @@swonic Yeah, I was looking to have the APC light up in Logic like it does in Ableton. Apparently note on/off information with velocity dictating the colour..

    • @swonic
      @swonic  Рік тому

      Maybe there is a Logic Pro control surface preset for your APC, did you check that?

    • @swonic
      @swonic  Рік тому

      But „velocity dictating the color“ sounds like that’s a setting of your controller, not from logic. I don’t think any DAW sends the color to a midi controller… or maybe what you are looking for is just that Logic sends out MIDI back to the controller when playback?

    • @Sentientfx1
      @Sentientfx1 Рік тому

    Great video, and thanks a lot for the tips! Gold! Quick question, how did you record the audio with such quality during your performance at the end? Since you cannot record the audio of the entire session while live looping, I was wondering how you managed to get such clean audio. Thanks again and keep up the good work!

    • @swonic
      @swonic  3 роки тому +1

      Hey, thanks so much for the feedback. Means a lot! I used QuickTime player to do the screenrecording and chose the output of my external audio interface in the audio settings. This might not work with every interface but you can use software like soundflower (just do a bit of google research, there are a lot of alternatives that do the trick) to create a virtual audio device to record! The only problem with QuickTime player is that it will only record audio in mp3/acc quality when doing a screencapture... so it’s not the best solution but easy, quick and free!

    • @swonic
      @swonic  3 роки тому +1

    Do key commands and Smart Controls get saved globally or just in the project you are working on?
    I’d like to set them and for ever new project, have the same smart controls and key commands.
    Or do I have to create a template with them?

    • @swonic
