I think the government should have permission to regulate manufacturers for the interest of the people and the environment, but I don't think the government should be able to tell the consumer what they can or can't do with their property (obviously with a few exceptions like you can't drive without a license plate and other things of real importance). Furthermore there's too many bogus laws regarding autos to actually take the government's opinion seriously. The 25 year ban on imported vehicles is ridiculous, the ban on Kei trucks is ridiculous, and you can in fact actually decrease vehicle emissions by removing the catalytic converters depending on the tune you get. I think the people shouldn't be micromanaged with their own property even for use on public roads.
