Person: acts awkward in an interview Fans of that person: the reserved and flippant attitude he's showing is a phenomenon that proves the unassuming genius of his mind that causes his remarkable talent
One of the best bass players around now. Big Ups MonoNeon. You are a good guy MonoNeon. You are an unbelievable inspiration to more people than you know. God bless you man. Keep Bassing. I like it.
Coming from someone who is lucky enough to hang out and share the stage with Mono the comments are true.. he is something very special and could be called a musical genius and is the FUNKIEST bass player I’ve ever heard live. Unreal he’s so young
That's because there's a musical truth in being alive that they feel and know so well. I imagine that like a special awareness that helps your mind to put things in perspective, and help your rational/speaking side. Sorry not a native speaker here
It's a very smart thing to be a man of few words, the music industry and the media will love you during the honeymoon then they'll crucify you later, this is a true young artist with talent and creativity.
First time ever seeing him speak. He understands in depth. Just does not articulate the way most would expect. I bet if he was talking to someone about music specifically it would be a much more in depth conversation. Watching this video just made me respect him more. 🖤
I just want to know 3 things. 1. Whats the names of all of your basses? 2. What is your primary equip setup like? 3. What planet are you from? No further questions!
Austin White Yes, I believe he is...it is almost obvious with the way he communicates...that is what makes him a genius player...someone else said it best...do interviews by allowing him to do what he does best...then he will be more open...patience is key!😊
I’m going to say the questions are a bit generic, it’s the job of the interviewer to push and shape the conversation and it seems like no one is really leading this interview . David Lynch was interviewed by an Australian channel and interviewed in the same manner. Maybe it’s because people are always sifting through some special formula that will explain and create the same “artistic gift” . Either you have it or you don’t ( my opinion)
I'm convinced, this man has no need for trivial human banter, because he's an alien. I knew no human could be as awesome with music as he is. I think he and Corey Henry come from some planet that communicates not by words, but by music. Using words to them is like learning music to the rest of us, and vise versa.
i've had some friends just like him in my lifetime, you just can't open them up with shallow ass questions and its almost like they are mocking your questions with their responses
The questions have answers imbued, so it's difficult for the interviwed to negate it all. You can tell the subjects Mono is interrested in: talking about the gig, the arranjes they're making together.
my friend would always talk about monoNeon but I never gave him much thought maybe because I am also a left handed bass player who plays the bass either with the strings right side up or down but Like playing the right hand upright Bass being strung for a right hand bass player because on the upright it seems so comfortable with the strings being upside down, after actually watching my first Interview of MonoNeon I can say I really like this kid he is weird just like me Lol Lol
Yes people need to learn how to interview of course. especially over the phone. And ask no simply question. Philosophical questions when the person is not even expecting them. And freeze out their mind. It mostly seems like interrogation when an interviewer is doing bad. If I was to interview Mono Neon I would say stuffs ask stuffs like: In my mind I see as a the baddest bass player of the planet, really I know you humble but, I see you are as this legend at the bass coming out. Then be like oh thanks or whatever answer he gives. How do you play those crazy fast riffs? You start from the main and important stuffs and compliment personally not assume everyone knows it. I like you you are cool really and then the boring interrogation type questions. Asking one question to the other just because you have a list of question you prepared is too much for the mind and will rattle the emotion of the interviewee. Like pitting their mind and thinking in roller coaster. So they lose it. Many interviewers are mostly bad and the schools are bad. They are judges in a court. Not a friend. Too many questions and then quickly to next one. So there you have it. This is not is too introverted or too shy or not in the mood. Of course Thanks a lot for taking the time out to make the interview I must appreciate that. But us learn how to communicate we were not thought how to communicate in schools. But there is right and wrong way and perfect way to do anything in life. So think about that. Everyone reading this. Mono Neon practiced and improved bass playing let us all do especially at connecting to another human and become skillful. Me myself I am learning to to talk better and connect with anyone. After music is communicating positive emotions so everything should do that to the next person if not enough they feel like tuning out out. Life is not fair and so we the truth must learn. Love you all. Mono Neon keep on grooving I love you as you are.
He’s not autistic. I think he’s shy and an introvert. His music speaks for him. Don’t believe me watch Prince’s first interview with Dick Clark when he was 19. The way Prince conducts himself in that interview is very similar to this one.
huh I joined MY first band at 4 as well but you know I couldn't handle the road work and was using a lot and messing around with older 5 and 6 year old womens and shit...
I've only heard this man speak twice in my life. The first time was when I went to a Ghost-Note concert about 6 months ago and he was hanging out next to the sound engineer listening to the opening band (who were freaking amazing, they were called the BBC - Brandon Brown Collective) and I built up the courage to go say hi to him and let him know how great I think he is, and the rest of Ghost-Note. He was very humble, and shy, but he was happy to hear my words and said thanks and he hopes I enjoy his set. The second time I've heard him speak is this video, lol.
people are saying he did a bad job in the interview, you don't need to interview mononeon just listen to him play, that's all you need. everything he has to say comes out in his music. that's why he seems like a man of few words.
I agree with your assessment. I just loved watching him leak that shy, knowing smile. Reminds me of greats like Prince. MonoNeon is a true original. An artist.
I don't think he was interested in the interview at all. He seems like the kind of guy who just wants to play, learn and move on. Besides, it's in his art manifesto at the end of all his videos. "Reject the worldly idea of becoming a great musician... JUST LIVE MUSIC!" So it makes sense to me that he would have little to no interest in all the platitudes of being a great musician like interviews, promotional stuff, anything that involves himself outside of music and the like. I, like him, just want to play and that's it. That's what makes MonoNeon so great to me.
Nonmusical individuals may consider musicians eccentric, however, another musician would've more likely received conversation. Then again, Mono is genius, so, not many words required.
He is a very unique, introvert character with a deep personality he doesn't show to anyone. A wonderful artist that makes me smile every time I hear him :)
Not everyone is a 'talker'. Some people just are little more reserved in speaking, except in the most private circumstances. I for one am grateful to hear him talk a little bit, and I still take his words seriously, even if he isn't just gabbing.
Yoooo, that's what people tell me!!! One of princes sax players told me that if you want to get a feel for what Prince was like... Go talk to Mono... He's like a splitting image...
I always thought mono was quiet.. He's actually a comedian!!! Lol... His philosophy of a happy life........... "Idk.. Just do stuff"!!!!! Crying over here!!!!!! Lol
I've always wondered if Dwayne is some degree of autistic savant. Never heard him speak until now, but I'm thinking my suspicion is correct. His "musicified" talking person videos are inspired genius (not to mention basically everything else he plays).
@Punch Down King I reckon he wouldn't he wouldn't have sounded introverted if the dude had got him to talk about his art manifesto, then riffed from there. One question could have got so many better answers.
Mono Neon’s approach to creativity is liberating. He has keys that can help many artists who struggle with insecurity, self-judgement, rigid viewpoints and doubt. I am so grateful for the few times I’ve heard him talk in interviews. This guy is deeply wise... he shows the way for those wrestling with creative blocks. Then he creates and proves what he says. He is a force of nature and healthy attitude. Gratitude!
Dude is an upsidedown bass playing genius!! A lot of musicians don't interview well they just speak with their talent. And he speaks volume with his talent!!
So cute. So cool. So original. I actually think they are great questions and wise answers. I was so curious to know more about him. I kinda wish I was more like him. He really seems to live in the moment.
I wanna see him harmonize his own interview.
I pretty sure he will do it:)
DUDE LOLOL
He didn't say much but he could remix it lol
I want to click like but don’t want to bust that perfect 420 comment score up.
Lmao

Lol.
Well, in this case, it’s true.
It does not help that the interview is more like an interrogation. What’s with the background noise?
Way to go Mono! He speaks two languages English and Bass guitar 🎸
"Actually I don't know what it means to be honest, it's just something I just came up wit and I stuck wit it... And I cultivated it."
I love that.
One of the best bass players around now. Big Ups MonoNeon.
You are a good guy MonoNeon.
You are an unbelievable inspiration to more people than you know.

Keep Bassing. I like it.

"What is music?"
" ....i don't know!..whatever you want it to be i guess"
Memphis' finest! Glad ive had the chance to work with bro a couple times. Just an awesome gift
Steely Dan is a treasure trove of everything any musician needs.
rickrudd fucking-A right with that comment.
The Dan is a musical style in itself
Of course mono-neon is a fellow Danologist. Wouldn’t expect anything less from a genius like this. Following other geniuses.
Haitian divorce, fire in the hole, everything must go, all the way baby
Musicians that only play 12 EDO or TET. That last sentence is the only sentence on earth than can satisfy your statement.
All that intelligence behind that shyness. ☺️ He’s adorable!!! 😍 Can’t help but love him.💯💕 especially his eyes 👁 👁!
Interviews for a man like Mono Neon reveals a Thelonius Monk kind of mysticism, privacy and reservation...
That's because there's a musical truth in being alive that they feel and know so well. I imagine that like a special awareness that helps your mind to put things in perspective, and help your rational/speaking side. Sorry not a native speaker here
I am a 62-year-old bass player and I love this guy’s whole attitude! 🤟🏽 he’s a true artist
Gotta love this brotha!
Just unbelievable that this is the personality that lays all of the sick bassline grooves.😂
I've just decided, i'm just gonna watch pranks on UA-cam and play like Mono.
It's a very smart thing to be a man of few words, the music industry and the media will love you during the honeymoon then they'll crucify you later, this is a true young artist with talent and creativity.

I like his speaking voice and attitude
this is the kind of guy you want as a friend. if he loves you, he'd die for you. if he doesn't, you're toast.
I just want to know 3 things.
1. Whats the names of all of your basses?
2. What is your primary equip setup like?
3. What planet are you from?
No further questions!
This man opens my heart and mind to hope...I love him.
it really feels like he doesn't want to be a part of this interview.
If he didn't want to do it or didn't want it to be released it wouldn't be here!
-jonathan scales
well said my friend. Ole Mono is a character to say the least.
Nah u can see where he opened up a lil bit. He's just sems like a weird (not bad weird lol) introvert type of guy
Interviewed by s douche bag!
Austin White Yes, I believe he is...it is almost obvious with the way he communicates...that is what makes him a genius player...someone else said it best...do interviews by allowing him to do what he does best...then he will be more open...patience is key!😊

Shut up
Straight Memphis. Straight honesty.
I think Mono’s a shining treasure of a musician, I suspect he’s a genius too
4:15 i don't listen to music much i watch alot of pranks on youtube
@Ishmael Cato it's pranks. The interviewer says he likes PRANK videos afterwards
I watch a lot of pranks... absolutely amazing
Dude was TRIPPING BALLS!!!! Ive been there man when you arent in this dimension and a disembodied voice starts asking your questions.
You’re so far off, it’s not even funny…
@@Jonathan-Scales Damn then, I want to smoke his brain.
“That’s a hard ass question”
greatest interview ever
Can we have npc dialogue music behind this? Absolutely love this dude
I’ve met Casey Benjamin and musicians are cool and awkward humans and I feel them 💯%. I couldn’t imagine my life without music.
i love this guy
Mononeon We have to hear you with the new Waves bass slapper plugin!
Please grace us with your more of your bass synth craft.
Woaaah I imagined a proper deep voice ahaha

Me too!!
i've had some friends just like him in my lifetime, you just can't open them up with shallow ass questions and its almost like they are mocking your questions with their responses

Such a chill badass

His answers are so bad they’re good hahaha.
super journalistes !!
Looooooossst in Spaaaaaaace...
Straight to the point
he’s got a great voice for voice acting in some kind of animated film/show
Hahahaha he waits til it’s over to ask “can you hear me?”
HIS VOICE HAHAHAHAHAHHAA but like his attitude!!
Yeah he was waiting for the interview to end before it started
Fast became my favorite bass player. Him and Bootsy
Great interviewer
MonoNeon, JB Beck and DOMi album PLEASE!
Can someone tell me the name of the song in the background at the beginning? lol
you are very talented my friend
More about playing w Prince. When will we hear some?
Oh man! he can speak!
How to be happy in life (be yourself)
Mono conversationalist... Neon talent.

“HOUSTON.. WE GOT A PROBLEM, HE CAN TALK!!👽
Brilliant musician, not cut out for interviews whatsoever. It was actually painful. Huge fan of his playing though.
Interviewer didn’t help
''...doesnt listen to music much''?!? He IS music!
people need to learn how to interview and be interviewed lol
I disagree
darian yeah that was kinda spikey of me. clearly in a bad mood that day. I mean...it's frustrating to watch his interviews. but whatevs
I'd say the interviewer was very good. On point questions if one's keen to answer. But mononeon really sucked at responding those questions.
Mono seemed annoyed by the whole thing. Off day for him, maybe?
Yes people need to learn how to interview of course. especially over the phone.

Yep! I saw it as it happened. I’m that old. Lol!
You can hear the Steely Dan influence at the start of Invisible...which I got on loop - just sayin
He doesn’t speak much, he speaks in mono tone😂
My boy Mono is a fool🤣
He talk like he recording a funk song lol
Three-6 Mafia, the Mystic Stylez that transcend all styles...
Is this an episode of “Interdimensional Cable” from Rick and Morty ?
Thom yorke eraser in the background!
Wow

What's the ' but ' in that
Yet we get it !
first time hearing him speak in like 5 years lol

Lousy questions to ask him. I thought he did the best he could. The interviewer is such a vanilla non-musician it hurts.
I don't think he was interested in the interview at all. He seems like the kind of guy who just wants to play, learn and move on. Besides, it's in his art manifesto at the end of all his videos. I don't think he did a bad job, it seems like he has aspbergers. I don't mean that as a put down, but he legitimately shows all the signs.
Nonmusical individuals may consider musicians eccentric, however, another musician would've more likely received conversation. Then again, Mono is genius, so, not many words required.

I see why Prince reached out to him, he's a genius on the bass!! I can't wait to hear the recordings they made.
bro, bass is just the fun stuff! just We wait...
Dude reminds me of young Prince... Total genius, but very shy and humble...
Llewelyn Guildford the gag is he was one of the last people who jammed with prince.
Yoooo, that's what people tell me!!! One of princes sax players told me that if you want to get a feel for what Prince was like... Go talk to Mono... He's like a splitting image...

Wesley King IKR?! Everyone here is like”he’s so boring” and I’m just laughing my ass off every time he throws up his arms xD
He’s a savant.
Jeff Thames exactly what I was thinking
and maybe a little gay
Agree. I’m getting a “social awkwardness” vibe. You can tell he knows what he wants to say, it isn’t comfortable trying to say it out loud.
When you spend as much time as he does mastering your craft, other things in your life tend to suffer, classic introvert, he speaks thru his music.
Int: "Now to the philosophy...what is music?"
Mono : "I don't know, whatever you want it to be"
Int: "There it is"
Music is a painting for your ears
A man of few words. His "mellow" knob is dialed to 11, for sure.
This dude is hilarious!! Bro he’s dropping some real wisdom, if you can get past his different personality, you’ll catch on to it!
Here is a guy with a lot to say in competely the wrong format. TV personalities should interview each other and musicians should jam with one another
ANDREW CODD very true. Could make a great series
He's so nonchalant it hurts! But that's a guy who really knows his worth and really doesn't care all at once. Very much quirk of genius.
Correct!!
Brandon: Nailed it.
wow, profound observation
My question would be if he gets hot wearing all those clothes all the time
You never see him sweat do you he's all over UA-cam
It would be I don’t know lol maybe lol
He’s so cool…. He needs the warmth to balance him off!
I've always wondered if Dwayne is some degree of autistic savant. Never heard him speak until now, but I'm thinking my suspicion is correct.
His "musicified" talking person videos are inspired genius (not to mention basically everything else he plays).
best bass player on the planet
im convinced this is eric andre
What I don't understand is why people think a musical genius like him should be "normal"...not making sense..extraordinary is NOT ordinary..
Beautiful. Extraordinary is NOT ordinary!
couldn't have said that better myself,God bless you Sir
Good Point!!!🗣️🎼✊👏🚬🎵🗿
This dude is on the spectrum for sure, probably the reason he's so good. Interviewer asked stupid ass questions though.
@Punch Down King I reckon he wouldn't he wouldn't have sounded introverted if the dude had got him to talk about his art manifesto, then riffed from there. One question could have got so many better answers.
the interviewer underestimated his intelligence because of his child like nature.
He might be on the spectrum but that's nit what makes him good. You're minimising his talent by saying that
The fact some manny people under this comment is assuming being on the spectrum is a flaw I-
the shy genius..
Mononeon seems like he doesn't want to be there 😂🤣
