I'd say it's a moment for the rest of the world to enjoy a good round of America bashing. Here in the US, we aren't literally thinking of the world when we see sports titles bestowed with the words world champion, which we already know is not correct. It's just hyperbole that has stuck somehow.
They gotta wait for the 2025 Club World Cup for that title. I want to see a basketball equivalent to the Club World Cup, the best teams in the NBA, Euroleague, Australian NBL, Chinese CBA, Filipino PBA, etc. all face off to crown the true club basketball world champions. Yeah, it would probably be NBA teams winning it every time, but I’d watch it for the odd upset in the knockouts here or there.
The fact is that all the best players in the world are already playing in the NBA, so it's already a melting pot of the World's Best. So yes, the team that wins the NBA Championship, is the best team in the World. The Premier League comparison is bad because their are clear examples from the fact that the Ballon D'or is always won outside of the Premier League going to show that there are superior talent playing outside of that league, guys like Mbappe, Messi, CR7, Neymar, Neuer, Lewandowski etc. This has never been the case outside of the NBA, the top talent ALL AROUND THE WORLD has always resided already inside the league.
It’s right if you consider the best players in the world make it to the nba, in a decade the nba will only have 50% Americans or less, the best individual talents from ALL OVER THE WORLD go to the nba it makes sense you are just stuck on thinking about the World Cup but they are diff events
They are Americans... Second most NBA players growing up didn't really focus on education and gaining wisdom they primarily focused on basketball so outside of basketball most of them aren't really the sharpest tool in the shed.

@@nozers no it does not work that way. They have to actually win a world championship to be World champions. Thats the whole purpose of a world championship.
As a European, I feel like it's ridiculous that I even have to say this. Nobody argues that the NBA is the best basketball league in the world by far and therefore the NBA champion is probably the best basketball team in the world. However, this doesn't change the fact that it is arrogant for NBA champions to call themselves world champions. The one and only reason for that is that they didn't win against teams from the whole world but instead only against NBA teams. Yes, they would probably beat every single other team but the point is that they didn't even compete against them so they do not have the right to call themselves world champions. To make it clear, let's just use football, the most popular sport in the world, as a comparison. In Football, the best league is the Premier League, not by a margin as big as the NBA in basketball but it's growing every year. You said that the NBA is a very international league, but it is nothing against the Premier League where 66% of players are foreign compared to the NBA's 21%. So do the Premier League champions call themselves world champions? No. To be fair, there is still one competition which is considered better even though it is not a league: The UEFA Champions League, which is an international European Football Cup. So the Champions League winners call themselves world champions, right? No. The winners of the Champions League compete against the winners of the other continental cups in the Club World Cup and the winner is called the world champion. In 9/10 times, the Champions League winner wins the Club World Cup as well but the point is that they competed against the best of the rest of the world so they can rightfully call themselves world champions. If NBA champions had the desire to call themselves world champions, they could easily go to the FIBA and ask for them to create a basketball world cup. But they have no right to do something like that after winning the NBA. The same goes for the NFL and of course the MLB. I find it really hard to believe that so many American NBA players made fun of Noah after his interview because the things he said were absolutely right. It's not that difficult to understand, you can call yourself a world champion if you beat the best teams all over the world, what is there to argue about that? It is not a coincidence that no foreign NBA player commented on this. It's nothing more than common sense to understand that Noah's statement is absolutely true. This wouldn't have even been a debate in Europe. Americans often don't seem to understand that there is more in the world than the US and they are not the center of the world...
I hope people take the time to read this because you are 100% correct and you really took the time to explain it in a way even a 5 year old would understand.
Who cares if your arrogant when in reality you truly are better then everyone else. If the Denver Nuggets were to play the best teams of every country they would win every single one, because the NBA is the pinecal of basketball. Is Noah Lyles arrogant because he's saying he's the fastest man alive even though he hasn't raced every single person in the world? No, he's not arrogant in saying that and he doesn't have to race every single person in the world to prove he's the best in the world. It's the same for the NBA champions, there's no way any other team beat's the Denver Nugget's, and if American NBA player's truly cared about the olympics as much as they did about the NBA championship, they would never lose a gold medal either because even though the best player in the leauge right now is European, there is a larger amount of American Basketball players that are better then the world. So I really don't give a shit if other countries are pressed about it and I don't think it's arrogant of NBA teams to name themselves the best when it's a clear fact that they are, just as Noah Lyles is clearly the fastest man alive.
Absolutely no one is debating if the NBA isn't the best in the world-it clearly is. This still doesn't make them "world champions" in a traditional understanding of the term.
NBA IS an association of national city teams with foreigners inside. It's not team USA which IS matched by serbian or french team... Usa 341 millions people, France 70 & serbia 7...

Jimmy got it right by pointing out that all basketball players worldwide want to play in the NBA, but it's the same in football: everyone wants to play for a top-tier European football team. At the same time, it's the definition of being a world champion, that you won it with YOUR country and not with a team, that all players across the planet are playing in.... truly a problem of the classic American mindset

I hope people take the time to read this because you are 100% correct and you really took the time to explain it in a way even a 5 year old would understand.
fax. being the best team in the world doesn't make you world champions. What makes a team world champs is winning a competition including the world.
W take
Who cares if your arrogant when in reality you truly are better then everyone else.

Not just about competing globally but representing your nation! As the nba is a mix of many international players how can they be the best nation if they are from different countries, you cannot compare a club team with a national team, clubs are businesses that invest millions in order to win trophies, national teams is just about the raw talent that comes from within the country.
