In my opinion, the best Mono Neon interview yet. McBride was able to engage Mono so well and get him out of his Introvertedness.. the educationist in McBride is able to really help Mono articulate and express himself with clarity...two amazing musicians generations apart, genres apart just having awesome conversations - I really learnt a lot about you Mono from this one. Keep rocking Mono!
He mentions David “Lenny” Stallworth @ 15:38. He’s from Moss Point Ms, near me and I didn’t know of him until after he transitioned. He’s a great bassist.🕊️✊🏾💪🏾
This was an awesome interview. I stumbled across Mono via social media. Clips he put out. At first it’s the visuals that draws you in, then his bass playing knocks you out. That’s how it was for me. He’s nerdy, shy and a country bumpkin of sorts…he’s a Memphis native…but you CANNOT sleep on him. Well rounded, astute, innovative, intriguing, humble, spiritual, weird, artistic, eccentric, funny. A one of one. I’m a fan.
I saw mononeon in Newport festival in that same year and I got instantly hooked in his style, the way he plays and look on stage I can wait to see him again this year in Newport jazz festival

Gospel music, Frank Zappa & HERMETO PASCOAL (multi-instrumentalist from Alagoas, Brazil). It doesn't need more comments. You are fucking amazing, Dwyane!
Great to hear Mononeon expound. He's a deep artist. More power to him. And thanks to Mr. McBride for a great interview. First hear Mono with the Ghost Notes. Blew my mind. (Dadaism: ) Dadaism's main purpose was to challenge the social norms of society, and purposefully make art that would shock, confuse, or outrage people.
I had the great pleasure of bumping in to mister christian mcbride this past weekend. he is such a truly bright-spirited human being. almost immediately afterwards, my phone suggested I check this interview. (my phone already knows I love mononeon, but... did it know I was standing right next to christian mcbride for a few minutes? maybe. kinda creepy. anyway...) such a great conversation between these two greats!! yaaaay!!
I completely agree with Mr. McBride on all comments. Great interview! Mononeon is an entertainer, comedian and overall artist but this is the first time hearing him out of ‘character’ if you will. It is all good…
😊😊😊 This was so nice to see. Thank you for posting this, Mr. Mono. Most of us here know you as an artist and a bad man on the bass, but don't really know you as a person, so thank you for letting us in to see a small part of your world. Nice that you and Mr. McBride could talk about bass and music and share some thoughts for us. Most of us here are already way into what you're doing as a musician, so this just makes us appreciate you even more. Thank you!
Anthony Jackson, his playing is like the bubbles in a glass of champagne, uniquely amazing! Great interview, you cats covered a lot of ground by way of inspirational influences and to hear the both of you bass giant's chopping it up is beautiful!
What a great interview! I'm a big fan of both of you. MonoNeon please come back to Olympia. We love you here. Saw you with Ghostnote at Rhythm and Rye and at Alan Roses place.
Mono, you make me feel everything! I do not feel afraid after watching your videos and I always kill my gigs after I watch you. Hope to see you soon irl!
It's good to hear this dude have a conversation. Sounds like just a regular cat who has a lotta drive and creativity. I guess it fits that his influences include folks like Johnny Taylor and Frank Zappa !
@@davidfuzefiuczynski Btw I took a look at your channel and I find it astonishing that you seem to still have the same struggles that I face, too - I work as pianist, choir director and teacher in Germany and I´m almost always frustrated with my own playing, unless I can simply "serve the sound", which depends on so many things from the persons involved over tech stuff to how well everybody slept... And I know, I´m not even remotely as much a virtuoso as you, which is ok with me... Please publish more stuff, the world needs open minds like yours!
Keep on doing what you do my brother!!!! It is amazing to watch you put music to spoken word or just someone's crazy conversation. Funky and funny at the same time!!! CAT BOOTY JUICE!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Man, when Mono, with his original style of play, namechecked Chris Squire, then John Deacon, then came back to Cage, Zappa et all several times I said to myself, this dudes Well is overflowing. And you KNOW he can play some bebop if he wants to….great interview, I’m inspired.
Just watched this again...Good job bro!! I see you coming into your own with this stuff...thanks for the shout, but now I gotta go practice! Hahaha! Love you bro!
This has 2 🐝 my favorite interview w/ Mono Neon & Chris. When u talk music he opens up & becomes an interesting guest. He’s still shy. John Cage? That’s old school. Reminds me of music theory in the High School of Music & Art back in the early 80’s.
I attended a pre-concert lecture at Moravian in Bethlehem, PA, circa 2007-2015 and he (CMcB) played some stuff on PIANI wherein he demonstrated a major third-ish bass line under minor quality chords, and some cat in audience said..."sounds okay to me"... and I did not have the temerity to raise my hand and say, "hey, C McB played some wrong shit, and you all should be able to hear that..." IT WAS THE POINT THAT CMcB was trying to MAKE! Mebbe it's just that I was the ONLY one there, and afraid of making a storm...But I wanted to let CMcB to let him know after ALL THESE YEARS that sumbuddy heard it back in the day!! peace!
This is so funny - I just commented on the "singin´ dog play along" clip Mono did with "Zappa´esque af" and here he says the Zappa is a big influence (and that DaDa) - love you Mono for all the genius stuff you put out!!! Greetz from Berlin/Germany... Christian + Mono, I am so thankful for you both giving us this interview! I´ve never seen Mono so honest and "normal" (sorry) and the insights into Monos´ story are so great and enlighting... the "fake lefty stuff" really got me lol I so love the Scary Pockets stuff with Sco!!! ... and the sessions with Ghost Note fo´ sho´ ... -> missing Prince
This was a awesome interview. I would like to see Mononeon Thundercat, Bubby Lewis do something together just a all let out your bass feelings.😅 let's make it happen.

This is crazy! God sure knows how to send people my way. My wife turned me onto YT Music about a month ago. A few weeks later I decided to try to figure out how to use it and opened the app and the first thing that I saw was a Scary Goldings IV album cover with Larry Goldings, John Scofield this nasty drummer named Lamar Carter, etc. Nevervheard of Scary Goldings. I hear the bass and he's killin but don't see him and then, who is that, lefthanded? MonoNeon? Now I'm listening to this interview.

Omg he’s so much more of a genius than I could have imagined.

Two of the great bass players of our time. And one of their goals, in this peak of their careers...is how to get their basses to play farts. Amazing.
LOL
Great interview Brotha McBride!! You both are 2 of the greats on Bass, great to hear this convo.
He mentions David “Lenny” Stallworth @ 15:38. He’s from Moss Point Ms, near me and I didn’t know of him until after he transitioned. He’s a great bassist.🕊️✊🏾💪🏾
50:25 Agree with Mono. Sonny T and Michael B are my fave Prince rhythm section ever too. Untouchable, like he said.
Two beautiful musicians, who truly appreciate each other. What's better than that?
Best interview of Mono I’ve seen.
