From Napalm Death to Napalm dub : Scorn / Mick Harris, 1992-95, the golden years.

- The drummer of grind core legends Napalm Death started a side project at the dawn of the 90ies, that would take metal to industrial, ambient, dub, electronics, and ultimately invent dubstep without even noticing.
While Scorn is still active, it has undergone several dramatic evolutions, mostly through growth but also with rupture, which is the reason why I halt this exploration after 1995.
As usual, this video focuses on the vinyl releases only, which here differ a little in some cases, from the CD releases.
Edit : Of course I made tons of mistakes in hte video, and forgot so much I wanted to say, such as the fact that Mick's recent output has IMHO gotten back to the spacey tension I was talking about, but one mistake I hate myself for making is confusing Bill Steer on that Napalm Death picture disc, with Justin Broedrick, as the later only appeared on hte first Napalm LP, Scum. I came to ND through Scorn, and am by no means a specialist of theirs, but still, my bad.

Always nice to see some appreciation for Scorn! It's a mistery to me how such a groundbreaking and influential project (including all the later evolution of Mick Harris solo work) still remains kinda obscure to this day. I mean, not that many people know about it, and Mick Harris is still to this day referred to first and foremost as the "ex-drummer from Napalm Death" in virtually all publications.
True! They should update it to « the grumpy fisherman from Burm, Who’s feuding with that rapper cunt »
@@StuntrockConfusion why does he dislike Kevin Martin so? ( I don't have Twitter so I'm pretty clueless there! )
@@danafiorelli9799 i don’t know that he does, I was referring to Sleaford Mods with whom he seems to have been feuding. But Kevin Martin did a single with them, so there might be something there I’m unaware of.
@@StuntrockConfusion ah yes! Suddenly all the, WILLIAMSON WEAKENERS!" posts make a bit more sense! Thank you
I was really interested by this video. The Scorn/Lull samples were great. I finally bought a physical copy of the Mick Harris & Martyn Bates release Murder Ballads (3CD, 1998). More ambient, but also more song based than most of your samples. Thanks, Chris
Indeed. Over the years, I've tried to get into those, but I guess I'm just not a fan of his voice. I'm glad this exists, though.
@@StuntrockConfusion same here - I feel like the idea is more interesting than the result.
amazing stuff! thank you so much! love from NY !
Cheers, glad you liked it
Intriguing thanks for sharing! Great to hear samples. Elements of the music have the soundscape of an interdimensional being trying to break into this reality. Cheers as always!
That's a take I welcome. There is indeed an outworldly quality to Scorn's music, oblique and isolationist.
Steve davis from snooker recommended you and I'm glad he did. Merci
Also here thanks to Steve Davis, but staying for the great music.
Wow, this stuff really does sound fantastic and right up my street, particularly as I've been listening to a lot of stuff in the dub genre recently. Will now be checking out some of the releases Scorn have to offer! You also reminded me that I should check out that Orb live album, not heard it before.
Rather live orb lp is imho their best
@@StuntrockConfusion Great cover too!
Thanks....
I bought the Dog Star Man 12" by Meat Beat Manifesto right before records were taken off the shelves. My first couple of albums that I purchased as a kid were on LP and then I switched to cassette because I could listen to them on my walkman while riding my skateboard or bike, but for some reason I picked up that MBM 12".
I don't really know how this relates to the video, appart from the MBM remix, but I didn't know that Dog Man Star was censored ^^I recorded my LPs on cassette to the same you did, hahah.
Meat Beat Manifesto !
There’s a great Scorn interview at ‘Compulsiononline’.
👍
Can't find it www.compulsiononline.com/interviewmain.htm I did interview Mick Harris twice, always nice
Great video, Mick is such a legend ! Please do a video on Coil or on Autechre !
Coil I already did a 3 part. Series, plus a follow up. But maybe I should do a new one? Autechre is long overdue
@@StuntrockConfusion Autechre are still on top of the game IMO and I discovered so many great music thanks to them ! (Coil, Zoviet France...)
Where's my Confield!! *giggles*
Truly excellent!!
I didn’t know that Black Sabbath ware from Birmingham 😎😳🧐👍 dah 🤓 what I was thinking then ? 🤔 very nice video stunt rock confusion , as usual 🙏
Ha, Dmitry, , my quickest viewer, hehehe
@@StuntrockConfusion ha ha , why not ?! It’s 9 pm here in Boston, prime time to watch a good music show, !
Great video. Tks
Not Justin Broadrick it was Bill Steer on the Second Napalm
Yes I realized that right after, hence the text in the video description 😉
You pointed your finger at Bill Steer
I did, as many others pointed out in this section 😅
Mais... aurais-je retrouvé AGS de Mad Movies ??
Mais exactement! RIP le forum
He wasn't doing scorn whilst in napalm
Yeah, by his own words Mick was kinda done with Napalm and wanted a new challenge. Then came the rather random and spontaneous Painkiller collab with Zorn and Laswell, which opened up Mick creatively and was probably essential dose of inspiration to start Scorn.
Been a Scorn fanboy since Logghi Barogghi. Hard to go past Evanescence as my favorite. The first album is probably the one I listen to most though.
Ha, interesting, I guess you discover them when you discover them, Logghi is when I really gave up I guess. Or was it Xander? I still try again, every now and then, though
you point to Bill Steer and identify him as Justin Broadrick... just sayin
Read my description of the video 😇
