Geographically perhaps, but not legally. Several years ago US authorities at the Douglas Crossing arrested a man wanted in the US. He escaped and ran to the arch where they caught him. He was arrested again. Many said he was in Canada, but he hadn't "cleared the port" so he was still legally in the US. The arrest was upheld

Whether you've cleared immigration control or not, once you cross the line into Canada… you are in Canada, and only the laws of Canada apply. It's like being in an airport in the waiting line, you're still in Canada and Canadian law applies

It's likely for tourism purposes. People who reach that field are already pre - checked for visa and passport.
Nope, you can drive up to the parking lot and walk along the length of the park without going through customs. If you have your documents in hand you can walk all the way across and into the other country but you must check in at the customs checkpoint in order to cross legally.
No visa or passport needed to enter the park from either side. If you don't go out the way you came you wont get far since border patrol is watching pretty closely

@@ziljinMy assumption is there are cameras and border patrol everywhere. If any car goes a different way they came they'll be stopped, and even if you snuck in, the next time you crossed the border you could get locked up.

Coming to America is awesome! Going to Canada, on the other hand, kind of sucks. When I was 20, I walked the Peace Bridge (I believe that is what it was named) between Buffalo and the Canadian side. There was absolutely no one there. I actually got scared and just returned back to the American side. Oh, well.

For anyone unfamiliar, it’s a park between the lanes of a major highway. I’m fairly certain you must exit on the side you entered. There’s a library that lies on the border between Vermont (US) and Québec (Canada) that has a very similar policy. Thus, yes, you can cross freely, but you are still bounded by customs pavilions.

This does introduce a potential for illegal border crossings or smuggling, but the CBSA and CBP know that's an issue are watching out for that, and anyone who gets caught is going to get in trouble. Given the friendly relations between the countries, the slight increase in risk of illegal crossing and smuggling and the need for additional security is considered a worthwhile cost for the practical and symbolic benefits of the shared park.

Me & my friend planned to meet at wagha border
He was from Haryana and I am from Gujrat Pakistan
We decided to meet up at wagha we finalized date time etc etc on WhatsApp when the day came we both reached at wagha but we couldn’t see each other as we were asked to stay away from gates and our signals of cell phones were 0 because on both sides they installed jammers.
We both returned and after going back like 4/5 miles away we got our signals back and we talked about that ….

There are many places that you can cross without a border patrol, but you are very isolated from any human existence. (Example: Alaska -- Canadian border)
This is not the actual border. This is an international park that allows Americans and Canadians to enter. You wouldn't be able to go past the other side if you didn't have citizenship.

The Peace Arch is in the middle of a park. US customs is on the south side, Canadian to the north.
The actual border crossing is, yes, but the peace arch actually crosses the border. If you stay in the park, you are allowed to go to the other side of the park. So you enter from Canada park and then walk under the arch to go to the U.S. park. You just can’t leave the park on the U.S. side without going through customs (or vice versa if coming from U.S. going to Canada).
Many families did this to meet up during Covid because the borders were closed.

I didn't even get to the Peace Arch and came from the car park on the Canadian side and a border security officer came after me and asked where I came from - I responded the car park and was just going to take a photo of the peace arch all still on the Canadian side! Some of the comments here are pretty ignorant. This is the Peace Arch Park, and people from either side of the border are legally allowed to enter the park and cross the border without any documents so long as they remain in the park while in the other country and leave the park via the country they entered. The area around the park on both sides is heavily guarded and so trying to leave the park on the other side without authorization will get you arrested and detained very quickly. Early on during the COVID-19 pandemic this place was a legal loophole for Canadians and Americans to meet legally as border customs were closed. This guy is not doing anything illegal in this video.
Another place where this kind of arrangement happens is the Haskell Free Library and Opera House between Stanstead QC and Derby Line VT.
It's the same in the uk you just need to cross some water rather than walk.
