I've had my Sage for about three years now, and it is still my go-to bow among my others. I take it hunting, stumping, backyard target shooting and trophied in tournaments. (Shoots as accurately as the operator) Recommend it highly.

I love the samick sage. Besides being a nice bow, it's easily one of the most beautiful. Most more expensive vows are alloy risers. Ugly. The laminated wood riser is gorgeous. I like the long, but not too long length. I've got 40lb limbs and 60lb limbs. They're all i need.

Jason I agree with your review of the Sage. I started with one then moved on to Bear and Big Jim bows. I still shoot it from time to time. It can shoot as good as I can.

I agree with most of what you say except for one thing. If I was a new archer and I wanted a bow to get started with, I wouldn't buy it from Amazon just to save money. I would get it from an on-line archery company such as 3Rivers Archery in Indiana or Lancaster Archery Supply in Pennsylvania. I intend to buy a Sage Elite from LAS come the first of the year. Those are great companies too. Amazon is also. Don't believe what you hear on the news and bs like that. I am and have been associated and sell on amazon for the last 8 years. 95% of everything slod on amazon as sold by mom and pop shops that send thier products to amazon and amazon handles the sale and shopping for the mom and pop shops (or as wr are called 3rd party sellers). Amazon is a search engine and a warehouse. And many of us sell our stuff on amazon. The ibly things amazon sells is thw stuff branded amazon basics. All others are sold by small time stores

Hey, another left handed archer! I understand the struggle haha the Nika ET-1 ILF recurve is another great option especially if your draw is over 29”. I got mine for $120 including shipping and it comes in a LH model. Galaxy sells it as the Salvo and charges more than double for it.
In my archery class we use a samick polaris which is really similar, i think with a bit more holes so we can add more accessories and my self, i use a Black Hunter recurve (25 pound) which i love. I love to use both but i have a preference for my black hunter. ( there are less holes so it's realy traditionnal, i can't add anything but, i am still very happy ) and i think i will keep it for my life unless i find something else ( i know i am young but, i know my self )

@@SamkoTradBow Also, in your video, you talked about the fact you changed the limbs to upgrade the draw weight, was it only the limbs to change or also the string? And if so, did a new string came with the limbs? It’s for when I will change my draw weight.
@@JurassicNath18with the same length (ie, made for that bow and keeping the same overall length - 62" in this case) limbs on the same riser, you use the same string.
Very informative video. Im a lifelong compound bow shooter that is looking at getting into traditional archery without breaking the bank.

What is the kind of quiver thing he has his arrows pushed into? It seems handy for carrying along side the bow

The samik sage is my favorite survival bow I keep the string on mine and its still shoots great its my go to survival weapon for defense hunting and just for practice I highly recommend it for preppers on a budget especially when you break it in and it starts shooting smooth and fast can't beat it for the price I'd rather have it over a high dollar bow

Yep its a great bow! Bit best suited for upto 29 or 30 i would think. Would probably still work great for you but probably better options out there a little longer.

Yoy will love shooting a tradbow! This samik sage or any of its other branding and variations are fantastic and will work perfect for your draw length. Just remember If you actually draw 29 inches on a tradbow the draw weight will be about 3 pounds heavier thst what the bow says. Tradbows draw weight is measured at 28" unless otherwise specified.

Post that question on the free forum tradgang.com. many people that have your same specs will chime in with best sets ups. Way to many variables like shooting style, point weight etc. Foe anyone to give you an exact answer but I bet you are gonna be a 400 spine arrow.

Awesome! There are a couple companies that make a licensed version of the samik sage and they are all amazing! I jave also heard great things about the black hunter bows as well. Amazon and 3 rivers archery are great places to buy one. You will want to figure out your draw length first as trad bow weights are measured at 28 inches of draw and goes up 3 pounds per inch over 28 and drops 3 pounds per inch under 28. So if you draw 29 inches and get. 45 pound bow it will actually be 48 at 29 inches.
I learned how to shoot with a recurve, I am 99% sure it was some sort of bear bow, wasn't a take down, it was a full length and was a good shooting bow, I used it for a couple of years. I was talking to the wife a few days ago telling her I may well go back to a recurve in the next year or two just for fun. I really do miss that old bow, I harvested lots of game with the recurve,. I will say this, I will order using your links you posted below. thanks my friend for the video and I hope you all have a blessed week. That quiver is pretty sweet as well, can you add a link to it. I have been bowhunting with compound bows for five years. I currently shoot a Mathews Triax. I am getting the itch to try a traditional bow with the intent to hunt whitetail deer and shoot just for fun. I am going to a local shop in a couple of days and the owner has setup a Galaxy Sage Elite for me to try. I understand it is different than the Samick Sage but would you consider it to generally be equivalent in terms of value and many of the other factors you mentioned about the Samick Sage?
I have never seen the galaxy but I know the sage bow like the samik is licensed to many different brand names and I bet thry are all basically the same. Im hearing alot of great things about the black hunter recurve that amazon carries as well.
@@SamkoTradBow I shot the Galaxy Sage Elite yesterday. The shop also had the Galaxy Sage. The Elite has marginally better aesthetics, the limb pockets do not have steel edges, and the fasteners are nearly flush allen bolts. After shooting it I decided it was a great starter recurve and now the fun begins.

I can not answer that as the arrows need to be set up for her and her bow. But any archery shop can sort that out for you pretty quick. Or you can start with some of the arrow spine charts to get close and fine tune.
Do you think you need to change the strings to fast flight strings
I do not think you need fast flight strings. I actually switched back to dacron on all my bows last year and am loving the dacron.
Do you suggest changing the string right away? Do you suggest bare shaft tuning right away or just practicing form at first? And how do you suggest choosing an arrow when first starting? Spine, length, and Field point? Thanks!
the string on it is good and works fine. I would bare shaft before buying a dozen arrows. but in the meantime as you are learning form and getting started, post on a reputial forum like tradgang.com and ask what size arrows for your weight, draw length etc. and you will get great recommendations that will get you in the ball park.

@@InterventionBeast420 put and arrow on the string and draw and hold the bow at full draw. Jave someone stand next to you and mark the arrow with a sharpie marker when the arrow meets the front of the bow. That is your draw length. Then add 1-2 inches for total arrow length needed. Obviously do this in a safe place and make sure no one or anything is in front of the arrow.

When I got to order it asks, left or right hand orientation. I’m right hand dominant do I choose right? Sorry if that’s a dumb question but I know nothing about bows. Also, I’m a 5’9” male 165lbs. When choosing the Lb option how tough is the 55lb for beginner
Yep of you are right handed you will pick a right handed bow.
The bow weight is determined at 28 inches of draw as a standard and weight will increase or decrease by about 3-4 pounds per inch if you draw more or less that 28 inches. Sounda like you will be right around the 28 in draw zone by your height. So i would thing that is a little heavy at this stage. Id probably go 45 or 50. You can always get heavier limbs later for like 50 bucks.
I go by what eye is dominant. I’m left eye dominant so I shoot left handed. Don’t know what eye is dominant? Point your finger at an object, close one eye then close the other. One eye will not move off target. That’s your dominant eye.
If I’m right handed and my right eye is dominant what hand orientation bow should I get?

I also have a 26" draw like you, but would this 62" would be too short for me? I think I would need a bow in the 66" range. I am new so I don't know for sure. I am just asking based on what I am learning. Thanks.
This 62" bow will work great for a 26 inch draw! It will be smooth as butter for ya! At 26" draw you can shoot just about any bow out there from 56 inch to 70inch well. The people that have trouble are the guys with 30 inch draws.

That question has many variables to answer. And I only really know my set up and don't tinker much with other arrows. I would make a post on tradgang.com with your bow weight, draw length and tip weight you plan to shoot and people with the same set up as you will chime in with great info. Hey man! Looking to get into traditional archery. Ordering this bow soon! However, as far as arrows and other accessories that I will require I am clueless. What do you suggest?
You will need a shooting glove or shooting tab. An arm guard. A nock point on the string and a string square and knock pliers. And some arrows. Check my how i set up my bows video and it will teach you alot of it. So will my video on setting up a traditional bow. As you get into in any questions just ask. For arrows ask the guys at the archery shop to measure you and get you in the right ball park. Only buy 3 or 6 arrows until you develop good form and can then start to bare shaft test and fine tune.

So Jason I got a Samick Sage yesterday. When I put the string on the bow, it's barely twisted. I measured the brace height and it's 7.75 inches. Is the string not twisted ok? It's a 25# bow (just starting). I haven't put on silencers because there's very little twist and I don't know if they will stay on. Any advice appreciated.
I think we have our sages set up at about 8" of brace height. I dont remeber what kind of strings they came with as I make my own. Is the string a Fleishman twisted string or a endless loop string. Endless loop string has serving around the loops. If its Fleming twisted it does need some twists and should loop like a candy cane. If it's Endless it doesn't need much twist. You can buy a good Fleming twist string for it from 3 rivers archery or kustom king archery or other traditional archery shops. The store you bought it from might also sell them. Hey Jason I’m shooting gold tip what size should I get I’m drawing around 27” I’m shooting #60 also looking at them tuff head broad heads what grain would u suggest I get:
Cant go wrong with any tuffhead! The shaft size and total head weight all work together so you have to start with one and then select the other. So if you want to shoot a heavier head like 200 grain and up I bet you need a 400 spine shaft. But also everyone has a different release and other variables with a traditional bow that really makes any suggestions on arrow set up just a suggestion. You will need to bare shaft test to see what works best for you and your shooting style. Id buy the broadheads and total point set up you want to use then get a couple test shafts in 400 and 340 and see what one works best. Then once you jave it all figured out buy more shafts. Also make sure you get feild tips the same weight as your broadheads so you can test accurately. You dont want to bareshaft test with broadheads.

The original string is good and you can always use any dacron string you want endless or Flemish.

The basic string is fine but i use Finnish Twist (like this guy's kids use). Finnish Twist is a bit faster than standard.
samick stacks after 26 inches badly, but indeed untill 26 inches its a dream.
we have 3 of them and never heard anyone say they stack even out to 29 inch draw. All 3 of ours are amazing bows for the money and really lets me introduce many new shooters into the trad world. Love the samick sage!
@@SamkoTradBow i own 2 of these bows also and yes they are amazing. It all depends on the experience of the archer though. These stack believe it. Compared to my mohawk chief, satori 21, gillo off course they do. Someone new will probably not notice then. Well thats good because as you say this bow has done alot for archery and i love it. But it does most definetly stack thats just the build of the bow and materials used. A short 17 inch riser with long bamboo limbs is a world of difference.
Lancaster Archery has taken over the patent from Samack to make the Sage. They have made some truly good improvements from the original. Small things like removing the metal plates from the limb pockets, swapping out the thumb bolts for allen screws and some small finishing details. did for one year but then got too busy and switched to a compound as they could not practice as much to be proficient with them.
What arrow do you recommend for 35# Sage?
With the overwhelming options available I opted for GOLD TIP TRADITIONAL I went with the 500 spine and am leaving them at the factory length of 32". I'm using these factory fletched with "feathers". They are avail 6 at a time this way (12 if you just want the shafts). With the 6 fletched shafts they send 6 inserts (you will need adhesive i.e. TIP GRIP or another super glue that is recommended for this purpose). I also suggest purchasing a 25 caliber bronze bore brush to "score" the inside of the arrow shaft so the glue will adhere better (clean all surfaces to be glued with a wipe down of denatured alcohol as well) I use a cotton swab dipped in the alcohol to swab the inside of the shaft. If you need the arrows shorter you may want to check out lancasterarchery.com or 3riversarchery.com either will cut them to your desired length (for about a $1.00/arrow) and they will install the inserts also (for a fee). My local archery shop charges the same. Best deal on these arrows is amazon.com but the package is always torn up. The arrows seem to be fine though. Lancaster and Three Rivers are a few dollars more expensive but they offer the services and the arrows I have ordered from them are always in pristine condition (and they give you the feather color option as well, which is something amazon.com does not do... despite the description the colors are always ramdom.) I hope this will help you out. Best of luck to you!
P.S. Go to GOLDTIP.COM they have spine charts, f.o.c. calculator (though we probably don't "need" that for recurve) and other "tools" to help you find what will work for your situation. Most of the quality arrow manufacturers have these tools to help you out. Easton, Carbon Express, Bohning, etc. I think Lancasterarchery.com and Three Rivers.com have some tools to help with arrow selection too. I'm a fan of NUSensei on UA-cam...some of his videos might be helpful.
I dont know as there is a lot that goes into finding the right arrow spine. Draw length, release, point weight, etc. I would probably start with a .500 spine shaft.

Lots of variables there. But remember draw weight is measured at 28 inches and will go up or dow about 4 pounds per inch of draw length. With that said 40-45 pounds works great for alot of teens as well as adults. Plus you can get extra limbs heavier if you need later for 60 bucks!

That I dont know. But the ones on amazon are real. I have bought those.

I’m looking to order my sage soon and would like a few recommendations.
I’m looking to use this next year to practice and get accurate for next year hunting season, and am hoping to go out for elk. And I know you need at least a 50lb bow for those large animals, so I was thinking of ordering 40 or 45lb for practice and get the 50 or 50lb for hunting big game. However, my only fear is that I will have to tune two separate arrows to each bow, and I’m going to try and get a high FOC. Is there any way around that, or do I have to accept that I will have to tune my arrows to each bow?
And is there a certain poundage I should start with? And in your opinion, what poundage should I use for elk?

I think your plan is solid on the buying a 45 and then getting 50 pound limbs for elk. I also believe that if you set the arrows up for high foc you will be able to use the same arrows for both limb combos. Might maybe have to make a slight tip weight adjustment but nothing crazy or that will be hard to do. 5 pounds is not a big deal at all.

Fs discount archery , big jims bowhunting supplies, lancaster archery are all great places to buy carbons. addictive arrows makes some of the finest wood arrows there are. Cant go wrong either way.

@@adambates4913 only you can answer that. Meet to go to a shop and have them measure you. Or have some one stand next to you as you draw an arrow with inch marks on the end of it and tell you where the mark meets the front of the bow riser then add another inch or 2. Then look at an arrow spine chart to figure out what shafts you nees.

Any alternatives to the Samick Sage that are ambidextrous? (newbie here)
Don't think there are many ambidextrous bows out there. Probably a few i don't know about but I bet the price would be so high, you would save money buy a right and a left hand sage.
Are you going to shoot different arrows now that the limbs are heavier?
Chris Graves If you go with heavier limbs you might have to change arrow shafts to get good arrow flight. But if you only do a 5 pound limb change you might be ok or maybe just have to change point weight. There are alot of variables in tuning arrows to make them fly like you want. I will do a video soon on this subject and have done a few podcasts on it as well (tbwpodcast.com). And clay hayes on UA-cam just did a great arrow tuning video as well.

@tradbowpodcast perfect! I will be getting a samick sage soon, and it comes with a quiver you see on compounds. They just seems way more practical.

You forgot to add that the Samick sage is terrific as long as you have a short draw length, the stacking is sickening.
I have buddies shooting the sage with 29 inch draws and loving it. Dont know how it is for draws longer than that.
