One year later and still no new Chromecast Audio (CCA). The only reason that google discontinued this product is so they could sell THEIR speaker(s) at three or more times the price. Resulting in much lower quality sound than people's home stereos equipped with a CCA. CCA was an amazing product with many many applications, . . . . for people who knew what it was!
Would be good if they made a Google Nest Mini speaker, with an audio out socket. Then you could connect it to proper speakers, but still use voice control etc.
Funny, I looked At my nest just yesterday to see if it did. Major cluster f of goochgle to stop producing this. X my leg eye and fingers, but it's be surprised. Very happy with latest chromecast 4K with goochville TV but can't cast to it and my series one at the same time. Although can cast to nest at same time.
If they released a new version of CCA, with gapless and hi-res support, I'd buy 12 of them. I have the old ones in use in pretty much every room of my house, some in ceilings connected to a class D amp feeding ceiling speakers, some connected optically to a reasonably high-end DAC and amp feeding floor standing speakers etc etc. I've even powered some of them with linear power supplies and used RJ45 adapters for LAN connection with them. It was (is) a brilliant, discrete, reliable and my opinion, *almost* perfect product/solution - I'd absolutely love an improved version! Most of the rooms they are in also have a complementary Google/Nest Hub, which is configured to the "local" CCA as default for audio output. It is/was the product that made me buy into to the Google smart home eco system wholesale.
And that's the reason why I love it. I'm using it with an optical cable, plugged into my NAD amplifier, and it works perfectly... clear sound from the amplifier's DAC and ease of use from Google... I also have Alexa for multiroom audio (as Echo Dots have analog outputs), but it's not the same thing... sound quality is not the same and Alexa is not as advanced as Google Assistant. If Google included optical outs in its Nest Minis, I would switch the whole system to Google.
I have 6 of these in my house making up a whole house audio system using them. When they had the fight with Sonos I lost some functionality but most of that has come back since then. So glad I planned ahead and bought a bunch. I think I have one or two backups left as well as I feared that google would never bring them back. So much cheaper than going with Sonos with just as much functionality. Never understood why they discontinued it but wouldn't be Google if they didn't do questionable things.
Same here. From DAC/monoblock stereo setup to a couple bluetooth speakers to 70's Yamaha in the garage. All in sync each with their own volume etc. I've got spares too. lol
I've had a Chromecast audio for years. It's hidden behind my desk attached to my proper computer speakers. It works super reliably and I have it paired with my home mini to automatically play anything I ask.
I've hoarded 5 of these and actively use 3 of them in my audio systems across the house. I do use a Bluesound node in my higher end system, but can't wait for google to offer a newer, upgraded CCA.
Have you checked what people are asking for these on Ebay recently? You could make a pretty penny selling two of them. Or you can give me one, as I could really use it to go with my new powered speakers that I can't currently add to my Chromecast speaker group.
I LOVE my Chromecast Audio, I use it with the optical cable connected to an older LG Soundbar and subwoofer that still sounds amazing many years later.
I have 3 CCAs and absolutely love them. The sound quality is outstanding for such a small device. I was too late getting more at Best Buy when they were on clearance for $15😭😭
Great news for budget hifi enthusiasts like me. I have one used since last 3/4 years which is connected optically with an external DAC to my hifi and works fantastic. Would love to buy the latest one provided it is indeed released. Hopefully, it will be more feature packed and even better sounding. Waiting eagerly.
If one of your stereo systems is adjacent to a TV, you can use Chromecast video and use the line out from the TV into the stereo to replace Chromecast audio if you don't have enough of those dongles. Yes I would buy more Chromecast audio devices if Google released them again.
I love my Chromecast Audio. Got it fully suped up with optical out and Audioquest jitterbug on the power supply. Sounds really good with everything, especially Roon and Qobuz.
I was so pissed at Google for discontinuing the CCA. If I had seen that coming, I would have bought 20 of them. An updated version should include direct Bluetooth support, as well as cast protocols. Even better, it should include Apple Airplay support as well. If Google can check off these boxes, and keep the price similar to the CCA, I’ll buy a bunch of them.
I , and I I imagine everyone else still have "old" amps used to sound (garage tunes) I would certainly still use a Chromecast to RCA , to add that unit to my speaker group for whole home sound
Would love to see the return of chromecast audio. I have older ones, which worked well for distributed audio in my home. If new ones came out, I'd look into buying up to 6 of them.
Soon as The Big G discontinued the Chromecast Audio, I bought a few. I now have 3 (mwa ha ha) 2 in daily use and one spare. There's one capability you didn't cover in this vid though, namely the fact that the CCA can also do DIGITAL output thru TOSlink (if you have a $2 adaptor to connect it) meaning you can connect the CCA to an outboard DAC for even better integration into hi-end audio. This is my setup and it works extremely well.
Hi Adam. Can you walk me through how to set this up with a DAC. Here is my current setup: I have optical cable from TV to Cambridge audio DAC. RCA to 3.5 mm from Dac to powered speakers. Confused on how to get the maximum hi res audio because I obviously am not getting it now. Thanks for any advice!
I got the R-625FA Tower Speakers. It was a bundle at costco. Theyre not the best i know, but i got them on sale with a center and bookshelf speakers. I mainly got the bundle for the towers. They sound really good. And they have atmos too. Great sorakers for the money.
Love the CCA (with its hi-res audio and optical out). It's the only device that made it possible for me to have a smart multi-room system in my house using MY choice of quality speakers including the studio monitors in my home studio. So enamoured by this, I chose the receiver for my living separates system based on having CCA built in. That didn't work so reliably for a while, but recent updates from Google via Pioneer/Onkyo have sorted earlier connectivity issues. I've got many friends who want to do the same, but are put off by the hike in Ebay prices since I bought mine for about £20 each. It makes so much sense to bring it back. It's just a shame that I've lost group volume control thanks to Sonos. I'm still unlikely to replace my CCA multi-room set up with Sonos any time soon.
I still use mine via optical to my amp with built in dac. The CC is connected to a iFi SPDIF iPurifier2 and I cant understand why on earth you should pay more. Sound superb!!
Would love to see a nest mini with audio out...or something like the echo flex, a dirt cheap assistant device with an audio out Jack. My dream device would be a CCA with an IR blaster you can program to turn on your old equipment, put it on the right input and turn it back off after you disconnect. They also need to give us a way to feed audio into the system, like the max speaker did, but without the expensive speaker attached, so we can cast turntables and tv audio to other rooms.
I added an audio output from the speaker of one the devices, I could tell they had done a lot of work with an EQ in the software of the nest speaker. So do not take the audio from amplifier output if your hacking one.
Have you seen anyone manage to grab the signal before the amplififer in a GH Mini? I have looked but haven't seen anyone suceed. Not sure it can even be done 😞
Are you sure that it's not just an update for the old one? Mine olde audio is not able to be removed from Home. So after my sister have had it for some time, se is not able to remove it from her Home. So now when I am using it my self again, it starts playing every time she is playing music, also from another town.
Wish a new CCA or update to the original one would bring AirPlay 2 support. Apple stubbornly refuse to support Chromecast in iOS (yet the Apple Music app on Android does which is ridiculous!). It really was a great product and made no sense that Google didn’t improve on it.
Deeply regretted getting my AV-Receiver without Chromecast integrated. Built up my Multiroom system with google speakers afterwards but connecting the AV-Receiver to it would be a dream!!!
I would buy new chromecast audio for sure if they would made version for stereo active speakers where each speaker left and right have audio input individually..
I have been looking for a chromecast audio for years (by "looking" I mean bidding on ebay and then never receiving the item then giving up...) so yes I would be well up for this! Right now we have a temporary home audio setup with Mordaunt Short sub and satellites (very small room) with a Roku, projector, Alexa, and really there's no way of playing youtube music nicely (this is the main thing I consume). I'm able to cast to Roku but for some reason it takes about 30 seconds to connect and doesn't seem reliable, which makes it barely worth trying. Recently I've been buying up very old Apple airport express devices which have optical outputs and sell for about 10 quid on ebay (shhh don't tell others!) - there's lots of talk about what version to get but mainly that's around the area of multi-room streaming and I have just purchased a few and put them in different rooms where I don't need to sync, as eventually when we finish our home we have a zone amp going in, which will play from a selected source to all the rooms anyway.
Google killed Chromecast Audio so we bought their smart speakers, but Google seemed to have no understanding of the market for Chromecast Audio. It was and still is used by people who are not interested in smart speakers to listen to music.
I would be excited to hear about a new Chromecast audio. I also bought several when they were being discontinued. One of them is NIB in my basement in case one of the 4 I have currently in service dies.
Yup. Definitely would love this to come back. I’ve used several sonos systems over the last 10yrs or so and honestly they are just a horribly run company with basically only one selling point (wireless connectivity). The sonos app is so poorly designed, likely the worst app I have ever used. It’s hard to navigate and fairly glitchy. Customer service is ATROCIOUS. The thing that infuriates me the most is their disregard for incoming data when you sync with Spotify. The app wont recognize Spotify’s volume leveling data and they refuse to fix it. I really want the CCA to make a comeback, I probably need 3 or 4.
I really like Google updated and launch again a new Chromecast Audio. I finally got 4 of them and I use in different audio systems, with the hability to play music in different ones at the same time, that is gerat. I also use some standard Chromecast for the same task, connected to a HDMI input in a AVR or using an HDMI audio extractor. But it would be great a new product, even something similar to the Google Nexus Q could be a very interesting product today.
Of course, I would be interested to buy a second one. 'Cause the second hand market is just crazy now over this item !! If they will not sort this new one out, I will be forced to buy a streamer with 3 times the price and less easy and friendly doing...😊
I've BEEN trying to find a way to play my Apple music (included with and inseparable from my cellular bill) on my full-size KICK ASS sound systems without the losses or crappy sound via Bluetooth or a USB-C to mini stereo jack. I've had Chromecast Audio for a few days now and it ROCKS. I finally got Qobuz to play at 96/24 but that made my STR-DA 9000ES Sony (2004-5) play in 2 channel only, and as good as my Klipsch KLF-30s are, down to 32Hz I want my Trinity SuperCube subwoofer involved, so it looks like I will self-impose a 48Khz limit. I'm getting a WiiM mini pro too, because why not?
Every few months I find myself looking for a chromecast audio, as I've been looking to add them to all my old and now non-integratable speakers, rather than replacing them with these silly "smart" speakers that will just interrupt my other existing ones. "Just make the soundbar a bluetooth speaker for the Google Home Mini," they say. Fine, tried it, but it doesn't work to integrate speaker groups really. Konks off all the time. Google Home and Bluetooth together are garbage. Nothing works better than the old Chromecast Audios. I would probably buy at least two more of them.
Yeah chromecast audio anyday... I use it with my Yamaha Soundbars and they are awesome as they support Toslink connector ... google please launch them again
My hobby (one of them) is vintage/antique tube radios and I would love seeing CCA coming back. Most old radios don't have FM and even if they do, it usually doesn't go above 100Mhz. In my country, my favourite radio channels broadcast above this frequency. Bluetooth is fine for sporadic listening, using a BT module connected to the radio but some of my radios is used more permanently and for this the CCA is perfect! I do use a GH Mini, set for BT as "standard speaker" and a BT module to the radio but due to lag, I cant use it in a speaker group.
I need one. I have been using an Airport Express using Airplay for years for my hifi system... but, also discontinued, it appears my hifi powered monitors will become silent when the airport finally dies. My daughter's died (no user serviceable parts inside)... and the old one doesn't do well with airplay 2. So Apple is making it obsolete without options. I wish I had bought the original Chrome audio (got the video) but it doesn't have the optical/serial or even analog out. I was too stupid to believe I needed to future proof by buying backups. Yes please, update the Chromecast audio. I will buy 3-4 so that I can future proof my world.
I have two CCA’s already: one connected to my Klipsch the Fives (via optical cable) and second one connected to an old wooden radio (via 3,5mm + 5DIN adapter) at my bathroom. I usually play them in the same group and people are quite amused when coming out of the bathroom: ”you have the same music playing with that old radio? How?”. Actually today I bought a third one online (second hand). Very happy with these. I wouldn’t use the bluetooth function even if there was it available.
And I was one of the few people that ignored MKBHD and got a core i5 pixel slate in 2019. That was the best tablet you can buy for Android and I still stand by that today? In my opinion, the only tablet that competes with that Chromebook that I got from Google in 2019 is that new Samsung tablet that just came out. Unfortunately it runs Android so it's not as good as Chrome OS! I'm extremely excited for this new Chromebook. I just hope they hit all the nails! And add a folio keyboard!
I have a Chromecast Audio connected to a 1979 Sansui G-9700 receiver, second to 1973 Pioneer SX-525 receiver and a 3rd to some Edifier powered speakers. I love those little things. You will never ever catch me using bluetooth again Google could future proof it for years by upgrading to a 32 bit DAC and it would fly off the shelves. Nothing else would have to be changed. $50...$150...$350 price wouldn't matter. As long as they undercut the Blusound Node, it would sell out instantanteously
Google is my lighting and garage door opener (via Shelly), my heating (via Hive), my audio and video(via chromecast) and I love that it is all native to the phone, smartspeaker and as a widget whilst Alexa is in app. In turn, I am googles bitch. My next google purchase is the Google max speaker, really wanted them as a pair for stereo audio... But..... Google discontinued them!! Why do they keep doing this?
Google should make this new Chromecast Audio with Hi-Res HiFi audio output PCM up to 32-bit / 384kHz and DSD256 with super low noise 0.0003% additionally, it should have a higher dynamic range of at least 120dB. It has to be able to push all sorts of headphones and be a line source for amps too 😎 I can't wait! 🤗❤️❤️❤️
One year later and still no new Chromecast Audio (CCA). The only reason that google discontinued this product is so they could sell THEIR speaker(s) at three or more times the price.
Still dissapointed my nest Hub doesnt have an audio Out. Whyyyyyy
I would buy it.
I'd buy one.
New Chromecast Audio with WiFi 6 compatibility, maybe? Whaaaaaaaaaaaat!
YES! This would be the best news of 2022.
Now maybe Google will repair (or replace) group control in Home...
I would pre-order a new chromcast audio!
Any update on this?
Hell yes I'd update - but only if they address the elephant in the room, gapless playback
If so i imagine a hd music streaming service will also launch
Yes I would buy a few devices if Chromecast Audio was reintroduced.
Anyone here know if a Chromecast Audio is compatible with Deezer's HIFI subscription? Enabling it to play Flac 44.1k music??
Yes it is.
It plays flac up to 192kHz/24bit.
For best audio quality use its mini Toslink optical out and plug into a separate DAC.
Yes please!
I tried one of these and sent it back because the sound was nowhere near as good as using a regular chromecast converted to rca.
I wouldn’t use the bluetooth function even if there was it available.
they will do it with bluetooth lossless codecs
almost 2 years now....
Chromcast audio forever! GIMMIE MORE
I have a Chromecast Audio connected to a 1979 Sansui G-9700 receiver, second to 1973 Pioneer SX-525 receiver and a 3rd to some Edifier powered speakers. I love those little things. You will never ever catch me using bluetooth again
Google could future proof it for years by upgrading to a 32 bit DAC and it would fly off the shelves. Nothing else would have to be changed. $50...$150...$350 price wouldn't matter. As long as they undercut the Blusound Node, it would sell out instantanteously
YND Huh, Sounds like it might be an abbreviation for youtube-music nest desktop
got a bunch of these and will love to get some more!!! hens teeth now
My old Google Audio won't power up. I am looking for a new one now. Yes, I am interested in a new Google music device.
So... Still waiting 😢
YES!
Bring it! Good Lord what is wrong with Google.
I want new chromecast for good proce not now on
Google should make this new Chromecast Audio with Hi-Res HiFi audio output PCM up to 32-bit / 384kHz and DSD256 with super low noise 0.0003% additionally, it should have a higher dynamic range of at least 120dB. It has to be able to push all sorts of headphones and be a line source for amps too 😎 I can't wait! 🤗❤️❤️❤️
