This makes me realise how grateful I am to movies for keeping many songs alive! So many songs made before I was born I know due to movies, and while I know that likely annoys many people, I think it’s better than never having heard the masterpiece at all!
Whitney Houston:
1/"I Wanna Dance With Somebody" (16:38)
5/"One Moment In Time" (16:45)
1/"I Will Always Love You" (19:38)
I'm over 50 and this video helped me meaasure some transitions in my life. I noticed in which year I hit puberty and also when I became "old". It's interesting how our relationship with the music of the time changes as we age.
70's & 80's are the golden ages
Kung Fu Fighting so fire it came up twice
That's correct: "Kung Fu Fighting" was successful in both 1974 and 1975.
@@miguelangelguerrerozamora3189 Miguel: The Ku Fu syndrome was super big in the UK where and when guns were scarce -- but during these times of 2021 in America if you are a martial artist, you had better keep it to yourself.
@@miguelangelguerrerozamora3189 Well yeah, considering it came out around November '74. There are a lot of mistakes in this video, unfortunately. Too many to name, but in this vicinity, "I Can Help" by Billy Swan was nowhere near the #1 song in 1975. THAT was Captain & Tennille's first and biggest hit.

1972: Popcorn
Popcorn is actually a great single and was hugely influential as one of the first electronic hits. I'd say actually try listening to it.
Yes, that was an awful tune. I don't know why anyone would buy it...

This list is really accurate. I see everybody complaining, but for those whose country of origin is not the USA this really matches what was in vogue during those years.
Not Spain tho. La la la and Waka Waka were so big here back on the wolrdcup days
Smells like teen spirit was skipped, that doesn’t seem accurate at all.
Born in 1954 in Australia, most of this is pretty accurate here, but hey you can't please everyone. Got to remember this is POP music. People like Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and a zillion others don't count.
No Smells Like Teen Spirit? No Enter Sandman or Nothing Else Matters? No Led Zeppelin?? This list is pretty inaccurate and just glossed over rock
Good Music will never DIE! If something or someone is meant to last it/ they will and these song hits hold up to the task.
A great era musically, to have lived through. Some serious classics in there, all to familiar 1976.✌️👍
I think Madonna herself compiled this list. The way she's travelling these days, I wouldn't put it past her.
Lol, nah, she just had ridiculous longevity due to her ability to adopt her sound to the decade. Might be a case study on how to have a long career as an artist.
@@bogueji1 Yeah but, her early 2000s output wasn't THAT big
Queen of Pop! Period!

Well, she dominated 80s, 90s and 00s!
Keep in mind guys this is based on Mediatraffic's "WORLDWIDE" hits of each year, not just top hits in the US or in the UK. Which is why almost everything on here is either super iconic, jazz, pop, or ABBA.
I see thanks fr the info
Oh okay that makes a little more sense🤔.
Grest songs, though!! One of my fav all-time ..."Sukiyaki"! Beautuful song!!
I tell you what I also am a big fan of Sukiyaki (I really 1st heard the version by A Taste of Honey though...).
That explains why there is a shift in the year of release. Thanks.

Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" charted in BOTH 1976 and 1992.
Wonderful video.

i absolutely LOVE 80’s sound.
So I learned that the Beatles dominated the charts in the 60's, ABBA in the 70's, Madonna in the 80's and Mariah Carey early 90's (kinda).
Elvis 50's and early 60's
ABBA did not dominate the 60’s
Not Abba, but Bee Gees dominated most part of the 70.

of course, Elvis is the king and idk why the Stones are compared to these two, big Band, great music, great albums, nothing compare to Beatles and Elvis
@Ian Salyer Yeah man, the internet need more than this, i respect your opinion too
Mostly it was just between The Beatles and the Stones. Elvis was KING. He had started transitioning to films by the time The Beatles and Stones started going head to head.
Agree. Sadly quality musicians and music has greatly deteriorated in the last few decades.

The songs we listened to as teenagers and youing adults provide the soundtrack of our lives. Age 13 to 23 is the greatest ever.
These charts prove America isn’t the only place people buy music
You can clearly see the impact The Beatles & The Rolling stones have made on the evolution of music. Transitioning from 50s jazzy light rock to a more liberal heavier psychdelic rock.
Man, I can’t even begin to explain if it wasn’t for The Beatles mania hitting the US, the widespread use of acid, summer of love 69' causing the US to drift away from the old fashioned conformative, controlled society lead during the 50s modern music just wouldnt exist the way it does today!
The hairstles changed, the clothes changed, all very dramatically. Music artists, society in general evolved over a very short amount of time.

Madonna sux, both musically and otherwise...some good stuff in that era...Toni Braxton, Whitney, some others who could actually sing...

Thank you to those providing answers to the many questions of why so-and-so is not on the list, or why so-and-so is. One thing that really stuck out to me is how much American artists (with a fair second of British) have dominated music through all these decades. For good or bad, being such a (relatively) new country with no singular culture, we seem to dominate a piece of what is considered a universal language. Anthropologically, I think that's fascinating.
