Ive been watching you videos for a min now, Im so used to youtubers riding top of the line bikes that I never check the prices because I assume they are out of my price range. Im so happy I clicked on the link, seeing someone ride a bike that doesn't require me to sell a body part to afford is a breath of fresh air. Excited to buy a mountain bike.
I designed this frame with Poseidon as well! The price is so killer right now
enjoy your rest, see you on Monday Eric !
thank you!
Beautiful video today. This was a great fork swap success
🙏❤️
Add some dill pickle slices or a cut up banana to that PB toast for a real treat. Don't knock it till you try it!
The banana trick is the best. Was sad I had none at the house
Hope you have a relaxing weekend. 😊
Somewhat relaxing! Definitely busy
You also need to consider the wheel size, not just the AXLE TO CROWN. A 29" wheel is 0.75 inches taller below the axle because of the bigger wheel.
I know but I’d already been riding the red bike with 650b in the 29er fork. So the swap affected nothing after that fact.
Look at Fork upgrades for the Emoto, and consider whether you would prefer the 20x4 wheel on a 26er fork, or whether you would rather get a 26x4 front wheel and keep the 20 inch rear with the motor... And if you get a new front wheel, it can be spoked, and then you might as well add swapping to a spoked hub for the rear to the project list...
😝 It's just to save money/wider product offerings in the 26-29 inch fat tire category I swear!
Hahaha more projects is always cost effective, my brain agrees
Going to ordering the complete bike since it’s going to be on sell, I have a fox 36 150mm fork and a Dt Swiss 370 rear wheel going on the bike, I will be recording on my channel of the bike for sure
Cannondale did this in the 80s with some SM series bikes. 24" rear, 26" front. Super cool bikes
24” rear is scary haha
I tried this on my 27.5+ hardtail. My experience with that bike (my only 650b) has made me really not like the wheel size, whether in mullet or standard (I also did not notice a huge difference in mullet). 29 gets you ludicrous speed, rollover ability, and (I think) lower rolling resistance. 26 might as well be forged out of solid steel, you accelerate like a railgun, and you can kick, flick, and hop it like you're on the moon. 650b is just kind of an unhappy medium, I've found. Blake Samson recently did a 29/26 mullet setup on GMBN, and (aside from the radical geometry consequences, of course), it seemed really interesting. One day, maybe. But because of my bad experience with 27.5, I built that bike into a 29 skinny-fat rigid bike with a 3.0 front and 2.5 rear. The bike shop just finished it today, so I'm going to be trying it this weekend.
I 100% agree with you that mullets look a little odd from some angles, especially the smaller the frame size. Luckily we are adult sized and ride large/xl bikes lol. I’m either team 27.5 plus or full 29 on my hardtails but I understand mullet for people with a shorter inseam but also like that front rollover
Yeah I was thinking the large as a mullet might look a little better!
before even watching your impressions after riding it... much prefer the look of 27.5 wheels.
Terrible with the 29. Like a kids drawing of a bike haha
I feel like it works out better to mullet a 29er vs a 27.5 with a 29er front.
If id mullet the poseidon,.id rather do a 26er rear, either Panaracer Swoop AT 2.4 or duro 3.0
Went for a big ride today exploring some old hunting/moto trails and found an old hunting shack. They’re the best trails that are closer than bowater for me. I did almost get lost though lol
Getting lost SUCKS in the cold haha
@@Spindatt I was more worried about getting shot by a hunter or it getting dark haha
i've done a few Mullet setups but not with suspension bikes. a 2013 Opus Zermatt with 700c originally.. I put a 650b47 rear with a 700c40mm front using WTB byway. I also put the wide range 8 speed cassette and TT bars... makes a jittery commuter bike a much more stable load carrier.
ended up running a 180mm rear disc as well.. mean commuter bike with a loud hub and 28,38,48 triple to a 11-40 rear.. it was fast.
I think the fork swap changes more. rather keep the matched setup
So much tinkering!
I’m all about the matched setup as well
I have a tazer mx pro and that’s the only mullet I have. All other bikes are 29. The mullet is good for the e-bikes. But I don’t like them on anything else. The extra tire is nice with All the weight
Why is it that most e bikes have them?
Underwhelming PB Sammich, but Eric this was a really good episode dude. You can tell in your voice just how much less effort and concentration you’re having to use while vlogging. Nice table BTW!! Get rested and a day ahead!
thank you! I really like vlogging a lot more than most of the other types of videos, its my fav haha
Well, now that you've mulleted it, you must now DJ it,
smooth peanut butter wtf
I’ll eat any of the peanut butters
Yeah, both mullet wheel setups and hairstyles pretty much look equally bad.... but sometimes you just have to do it, get it out of the system, been there done it, never again, a bit like eating snails! 😃
You could have swapped steer tubes as well.
I definitely don’t have the tools and equipment for that haha
I thought maybe the fork swap would change the geometry to make the Norton more suitable for XC marathoning… oh well.
Now the important question, did the person who first called the bigger tire up front a mullet not have any clue about how a mullet works in the exact opposite direction?
To be fair, when I hear someone talking about their mullet, I still don't know whether they're talking about different wheel sizes, giant rear cassettes, or their hairstyle...
LOL I’d say it’s cause 650b is the party wheel size!
Put it back
Would you be able to share the location of the trail you are riding in Chapter 3?
Love Norton updates, if you’re willing to do this abomination, put dropbar on fast Norton now.
I really wish Poseidon was easier to get in Canada.
welllllll this was a lot easier and cheaper than a drop bar, and worked better too hahahah
@@Spindatt hear me out, fast Norton, drop bars, 100mm fork, 29”wheels. Do it then compare against the heap. The thing with Elgin is it’s 3 laps, one crazy hard single track, one easier single track mixed with double and one dirt road. You may appreciate the drops and better aero position and different hand positions in that last 40km.
You should mullet a DJ bike to 26"/27.5", ideally a size long frame and about 150mm fork might work?
I mean, I could just put a 26” on the back of the Norton and have that haha
@@Spindatt If you've got a suitable wheel sitting around it can't hurt to give it a try...
Isn't big at front small rear a reverse mullet setup?
not really, 650b would be considered the "party" wheels size, so its party at the back
Your going straight to.. H, E double crank arms
I just hope there isn’t any double or triple chain sets when I get there. That’s my hell
I'm mullet blind, I only saw it at 9:27. I agree I think it looks horrible.
Once you see it: awful haha
Eric, do you have a favorite brake setup?
Sram, but only PURELY because the lever and master cylinder is totally smooth and doesn’t rip your hands apart when getting the hands back on after a barspin/no hander haha
THANK YOU!!! These mullet bikes are absolutely hideous! Didn't work in 2009 when Trek did it, doesn't work now. At least Trek's bike had a semi scandalous name. Lol!
The bigger the frame the better it seems to look, but holy moly my medium Norton did not wear it well
"If a bike does not look a way that gets me excited, I will not ride it!" Nailed it!
What's the biggest 29 tire the Norton can run? 2.5-2.6?
650b only on the rear
@@Spindatt 👍
What the heck????!!!!!
lol im so curious as to what this could mean
Hmmm, kinda prefer equal sized wheels if I'm honest!
Somewhat tangetially related question, why is MTB stuff always rebranded? "29er" wheels are just 700c (622 ERD), and "27.5" is just the old 650b size, and is actually smaller thant the old 26" x 1 3/8" (590 ERD/650a) size? Just seems superfluous and a bit misleading
I prefer the equal size too!
I think it’s to sell things as mtb specific haha
I think it's due to the MTB originating in the US. So instead of using centimeters it's inches. Just speculation on my part though.
Please fast plant that branch jump @8:05 🙏 🤙
10-4 good idea!
