I bought this game from eBay a few weeks ago and I've been trying to do tech4 for the past week and nothing. Watched this video and boom, tech4 every time. Thanks so much! For those still having trouble after watching this, fuck the music, pay attention to the sound of the reel in the video and match it. It's really easy once you successfully do it a few times.
If anyone is having trouble nailing the tecs, and you notice your game sometimes gets a choppy frame rate when a lot of stuff is rendering on screen, try this: I've found fishing in a spot where there's fewer sprites on screen makes the game recognize the inputs more consistently due to a better frame rate. For example, out in the middle of a lake or ocean with few rocks and plants on screen is usually good. At rivers you want to be pointed away from stuff like waterfalls which seem to stress the frame rate more.
After performing a tech i can just wait or have to repeat it all the time until a fish starts pulling/biting the tip (when you have to press x or another button to actually start the capture)
i could never do a tec 4 consistently on bof3, tec 3 was 10 times easier and good enough to catch any fish. in bof 4, the tec 4 is actually really easy. it's 1,2,3,pause,1,2,pause,1 so i just count it out, i go 123,12,1 it helps that the background music repeats the different tec combos for you to hear them, when bof 3 gave no indication of even how fast to tap it
as I recall there is a secret technique 5 in BoF 4. I can't seem to find any walkthrough talking about it. but I'm sure there is a tech 5 not mentioned in the tutorials.
Man I just hated that in breath of fire 3, Tec 4's never worked. Seemed like some sort of glitch or something? In my current LP I can't get lvl 4 tecs :(. Good job on showcasing the Tec's man!
Tested and tested, and tested again. Either something is damn off with Rhythm on the PC and Playstation versions, but I can flail about on both, and get Tech 1 on random. But when I try to get Tech 1, I get a feel for it, and yet out of 20 times, maybe 3 times it clicks. It is just frustrating that there is no rhyme or reason for it to either click or not.

There's no such thing. Tech 5 was just a rumor that started from an erroneous online guide two decades ago.
I can play polyrhythms on a drumset no problem, but couldnt do tec 4 in BOF4 to save my life... Great vid though!

I actually used the rhythm of another song that almost all the time turned into tech 4 or 2. Still use it to this day
