    I love my Kallax cutting / ironing table ! My husband and I secured two 2 X 4 units together, back to back on their sides and added 4” locking casters. I added a 36 X 60 melamine top and covered it with ironing board fabric then topped that with the 36 X 60 cutting mat for use with large projects. I also have 36x24 cutting mat on one end and 36X24 ironing board on the other for smaller projects. I also love the versatility, I have 4 drawers, 4 baskets, and the remainder open shelves. I find the height to be a perfect fit for me.

      That sounds AMAZING!!!!!!!!! I've seen some units like what you're describing and they are so functional. The ironing station would be so incredibly nice. I'm still using a vintage ironing board, which is fine on small projects but it's a challenge with larger quilts.

    Thank you for making this video, I had a very difficult day, and this video really lifted my spirits :) Well, I I don’t have a Kalex, But yours is so pretty, and Functional! Which is so important, of course. I know this sounds dumb, but the way you have yours set up, and filled, is just so cozy. When you were opening the drawers, and sharing your fun stuff will us, I just wanted to grab a hot chocolate and sit on the floor lol. THANK YOU I had a blast watching :) You have become such a Wonderful quilter. Everything you make is just so beautiful. I’m a beginner, I just made a table runner, a little wonky 🙄 Oh well :) I really LOVE❤ your videos, please keep making them Patty, because the way you explain everything helps me so much!

      I"m so happy this video came out at just the right time for you! And don't worry because everyone's stuff is wonky at first!! Good pressing a lot of starch really helps. I'm really trying to get myself back to videos again! I love making them but I forgot how much time it takes me to get it all done. I'm trying to do 3 a week again, but I don't know if I can keep it up. I'm going to try though!

      @@PattymacMakes Patty we do look forward to your fun videos, But remember to take time for you, & get enough rest. Sometimes I just have to relax in a big chair, with a good book, and a cup of tea for a little escapism. 📚 ☕️ Don’t forget you! ………P.S. Your front room/sewing area looks Beautiful & cozy…it’s hard to get that combination right :) Praying for you, and your mom.

    Hi Patty, I am also in the love it camp. I’m fortunate that I had an extra bedroom to turn into my sewing room, so nothing is on display in the rest of my home, but I’m of the opinion that sewing room furniture should be more functional than aesthetically pleasing. It is part of our tools of the trade, as it were. I have two Kallax units: a 4 x 2 and a 5 x 5. The 4 x 2 is on its side, on castors, has a variety of doors and drawers, and is topped by a full ironing table that actually overhangs the top. Mounted above it are several of the IKEA pegboards and their multi functioning pieces. The 5 x 5 takes up most of one wall, but holds all my material. I have the material divided into multicolored cubes so it is sorted by color or maker, but is also protected from environmental problems like dust and sunlight. A couple of the shelves even hold mini bolts (covered by plastic) and the space on top holds my projects in progress boxes. I also have several of the cheaply made sewing desks from Joann’s and a gate leg cutting table with another pegboard mounted above holding rulers and rotary cutters. It makes life and sewing so easy when everything is accessible🥰

      That sounds like a gorgeous set up!! I love that 4x2, but it is just too big for the room. I have almost no wall space because this is sort of the pass through room. But it makes filming the videos and taking picture 100% easier for me and I needed that. I just leave my stuff out which I'm sure I'll come to regret at some point, but it is what it is. I'm trying to sew through a lot of it so I can rotate new stuff in.

    I love the drawers in my Kallax and you put yours to great use! I didnt realize that jelly rolls fit. One tip to disguise the metal screws showing on the outside on each end = paint the screw heads with white nail polish

      I think the functionality is why I love Ikea items so much. Everything is good for a couple of different uses. And I think for the price, it's pretty well made. So far I've been really happy with all of my purchases.

    Thank you for the tour! My favorite part was your ribbon drawer. I've never been able to get on board with storing them on a dowel rod trend. I'd love a Kallax like yours for an AccuQuilt GO die cutter station, and have a Hemnes cabinet (3 shelves and 3 drawers) with glass doors on either side of it for the books, project boxes, etc.

    • @PattymacMakes
      @PattymacMakes  3 місяці тому

      Oh gosh, the Hemnes line is so beautiful! I think it would be great for your AccuQuilt stuff. You could put it on taller feet to lift it higher, but make sure it's stable. The 4 cube thats a 2x2 might be perfect for you. It's taller and you wouldn't need such long feet to raise the height so it would be stable. I like my ribbon drawer, too!! I don't use all that much ribbon so this keeps it out of the way and I think it's less cluttered looking.

    This seems to serve your needs very well! I think I could use this in my home office. My husband and I recently retired, and I had to combine my home office furnishing and supplies with our office furniture and supplies into a downsized space. I am still muddling through and am finally at the point that I now recognize what I truly need to keep and what to donate or purge I also am a sewer and a crafter and know the Kallax would be perfect for that. Isn't it nice to have a place for everything and everything in its place? I love that you have found such a wonderful solution for your supplies. You have inspired me!

    My current sewing organization furniture is the Lagkapten/Mittback combo, with a few other pieces held elsewhere (such as the fabric is in the living room furniture.) What I like is the table top can be adjusted for height, and I keep the sewing machine and my supplies which are actually in a cosmetic organizer in the shelves underneath. As for my Kallax, I added metal feet to make a nice record player stand.

    Thank you for making this video. I love what you have done with the unit and how nice it looks in your space. I love functional and easy care furniture. I all for function over designer looks at this stage of my life. I’m about to take everything out of my sewing room and reorganize and rearrange. I do this every few years when my hobby priorities change. I noticed that you have drawer rails on your drawers. Did those come with the drawers or did you have to put those on? The feet are a fantastic idea. It makes vacuuming so much easier. I’m glad you make the comment about the Janome and Kenmore relationship. I have an old Kenmore that someone gave me and I need to get it serviced as it’s not in working condition. Didn’t know where to get accessories once I got it working again. Thanks for sharing. If you have more sewing space ideas, please share.

    • @PattymacMakes
      @PattymacMakes  3 місяці тому +1

      Oh thank you so much!! Yes the Janome feet should fit your machine fine. Get them on amazon and if they don't, it's an easy return. I had my machine serviced last year, and it's working like new. I love sewing on it.
      The drawers are an insert you buy as an option to go with the Kallax. It's literally a paper box type of thing and you affix the rails to the paper box and slide it into the cubbie. As I recall. It's been a while since I've done it but there are plenty of videos if you search around for it.
      I have a few videos on the channel about sewing room organization and I've been showing my fabric storage recently. So you might find those topics helpful. But I'll definitely make more on the subject!

    I put feet on mine also, but I used some Ikea feet called Kabbarp. I like the shape of them and the colour matches.
    For drawer organizers, nothing beats Dollar Tree. They have all kinds of different sizes, so you can find something to fit a specific item.

    Okay… off subject… but I put my plants outside in the summer, and then in the winter all the spiders in a 3 county radius move into my house! Do you do anything to get rid of the spiders before bringing your plants back inside in the fall?!?

    • @PattymacMakes
      @PattymacMakes  3 місяці тому +1

      I haven't had any issues with spiders coming in. You might have spider mites which is a different issue. You spray down the plants with soapy water to get them under control and wipe down the leaves, top and bottom to mechanically remove them. Spider mites show up here in September when it's really hot and dry so it can be a battle. My lemon attracts fungus gnats or whatever they are and I use little yellow sticky cards to trap them. It works well!
