I was blown away from the Dr. Dre & Anderson Paak studio cutscene from GTA Online. However, it's mocapped, so maybe technically not animation?
Not necessarily an animation, but you should check out the Dave Grohl vs. Animal drum off. I know it's meant for kids, but some of Animals notes or maybe even Dave's notes a little bit don't look the same as what's being shown.
There's another drumming scene from SpongeBob SquarePants in The Camping Episode, Patrick is on drums for the Campfire Song Song
Disney's Soul has some absolutely amazing drumming. They even use brushes and produce the correct sound
I'm guessing it was motion capture rather than pure animation. Still cool but less time consuming.
Note: Actually it's "Key Frame" animation. Basically just place a model in a sandbox and drag their limbs around. So it wasn't drawn each time but someone must've recorded the instruments in person then frame by frame dragged the monkey models arms into position.
@@Silhouex I know a little about animation and it definitely looks like keyframing to me, though they could probably replicate the same motions and animation style by just using a motion tracker of some kind

The scene from teen titans is definately a whiplash moment reference (That solo after he played Caravan). Most drummers critisized his technique in the movie. Just watch it and you'll see the similarity

IKR, but the technique was criticised because when he played on the cymbal/ride, he was only using one finger for the rebound, which is what I did when I first tried rebounding( I am a rock drummer), but his neimans technique specifically on the snare was perfect

If you think that My Little Pony drum track can’t actually be done…I’d like to point you to The Who’s original drummer, the late, great (and very possibly insane) Keith Moon…in particular, the last filmed performance he gave, the 1978 film, “The Kids Are Alright” and the climactic performance of “Won’t Get Fooled Again”, especially the drum solo coming out of the synthesizer and laser portion.
- Eric probably already knows who Moon was.
- Moon was not 'insane.' you're buying into a myth.
- Moon was never a particularly technically skilled drummer. his style is extremely unique, but even in the sixties and seventies there were many drummers more technically skilled than him, and especially today when the average intermediate tech death drummer has more chops than he ever did.
- Moon could never have played the section you're discussing in the video. neither could a tech death drummer. you would need three hands and three feet.
- Eric knows if something is actually physically possible or not. Eric himself is probably more technically skilled than Moon ever was.
You should try to rate Bochi The Rock. There are a lot of really good shots of drumming
Bocchi the rock have some of the most accurate 2d animated musical performance I've ever seen.
For drum specifically, the live version of 星座になれたら have a lot of drum shots.
Bocchi the Rock deserves to be checked on, even the guitar is pretty darn close!

south park episodes are usually made within the span of a few days(6, i believe?) so the animator probably only had enough time to make the first bit accurate, and had to give up midway. they likely didn't even have the full 6 days since it takes time to script and plan out the scene
Definitely Bocchi the rock. They animated it by having actors actually play the music and then using them as reference so it should be pretty accurate

My hero Academia Katsuki Bakugo Season 4 episodes 19 (E82) and Season 4 Episode 23 (E86)... depending on dubs interpretation... I highly suggest using the video from the Subbed version which you can view for free on crunchyroll. I like to see how well or poorly he played. thanks for amazing content and keep us both entertained and educated!
I think the one at the end was actually probably a legitimate musician doing that on a drum because it's easier to put them into a mocap suit and have them do it for real with a game like that and just bring in the prop drum and record the sound all in one recording session.

The king of one foot triplets and it's not close. The song dream of mirrors has those triplets for 2 or 3 minutes straight. Absolutely nuts

Here's two of my suggestions:
In GTA Online mission Studio Time from the Contract update Anderson .Paak is seen drumming for the song for a few seconds.
In Fallout 76 there's a drum set that can be placed in your CAMP or found at some locations. Even though more than likely the player character never touched a musical instrument while living in the vault, they still somehow perfectly manage to play any musical instrument they come upon.
I don't think there's really much point in going over the former as I'm guessing the drummer was mocapped and the drums were recorded at the same time, although I'm not sure about the drums in Fallout 76 as other musical instrument don't look too accurate.

You might S or A tier the South Park Episode where they start a Christian rock band. Specifically the scene where Cartman is telling Token to play a baseline. Butters’ drumming on that is pretty accurate IMO.

It's kind of crazy that you don't usually think about how off drums in cartoons often are, but when you actually see it animated well, even someone who knows nothing about it, like myself, will automatically catch the difference.

Would love to see Rock Band get the WISLL treatment. I remember most of the drummers I knew had a non-drummer play the drums for that because the visual beats weren't lined up well enough with where the beats actually were.
Yeah the drummer occasionally hits the snare on the wrong beat sometimes but it's only a thing in RB2. Aside from that, the animations in Rock Band games are usually damn near spot on in the accuracy department, granted, with some limitations (for instance, the drummer only has one kick pedal, only two cymbals and three toms, and pre-RB3 could not hit the ride or second crash cymbal with their left hand).
The animations aren't actually mocapped or rotoscoped at all. The drummer is actually controlled with MIDI notes that tell the drummer what to hit, and these animation notes are typically done by hand.
I think a good example of the drums being accurate is the intro to Painkiller or the solo in Won't Get Fooled Again.

@@MuriKakari Yeah, 2 wasn't super accurate. But playing Rockband 4 and actually looking at the drummer the animations look really good (with a few song exceptions but it's very little to none) I think the fourth game also changes the kit depending on what the song uses to have more drums or cymbals which is also really cool.

I would say check out the drummer from the show Grojband, such a good show but not so sure how accurate it is from a drumming standpoint.
