- #2019 $5000 MOBILE HOME RENOVATION EP. 6 What is PB Piping or PB2110? OK! in my last video I couldn't seem to what PB Piping or PB2110 or Polybutylene was or what a Qest Fitting was. So here I show you exactly what it is and why you may have leaking water lines in your older mobile home.

I've had polybutylene piping itself fail, not just the fittings. The stuff is garbage. Replaced it with PEX. Which has no problems.
Will PEX couplings fit to an existing gray pb?
@@whiterock4769 No. But do they sell Polybutylene to PEX adaptor couplings. However, the best thing you can do is replace all Polybutylene, if possible.
I'm not a plummer but will shark bit do the job? I gotta replace a T and I'm going to get parts for it today
@@whiterock4769 Yes, SharkBite will work. Not sure if you can get a Tee fitting adaptor though. But it wouldn't hurt to check. But again, I recommend that eventually you replace all Polybutylene. The really cool thing about PEX is that you don't need to be a plumber to use it. You do have to purchase a special tool. But after that, there are many videos on UA-cam showing how to work with PEX.
It was also the Quest pipe with aluminum bands. Which is that gray pipe you have there.
mine has the shitty grey pipe. I've had to replace the connector for the toilet and for the kitchen sink. and I had to chance 2 sections of pipe cause they got pin holes in them
We have like 20 underground service lines feeding mobile homes which I've just learned are Polybutylene (blue color ASTM D2666 and blue color PB 2110). Almost had a panic attack when a google search pulled up all the class action lawsuit information. Very relieved to read and hear that the real problem here is the delrin acetal resin that the commonly used fittings are made of - all of our fittings are metal I believe. I think we should be alright. Here is some excellent reading on this topic for anyone else interested: www.pbpsa.com/uploads/files/resources/pbpsa-pb1-faq-en-2.pdf
Many Thanks for the Link! Extremely informative. It appears that there's really nothing wrong with Poly B, it's the PoS fittings that were used. And the 'Story' that it was 'Banned' is bs, they just stopped selling it in NA but it's still used around the world today!
My poly B is 30 years old (copper fittings copper scraps) and still going strong!
Good video
Great info💥👍💥
Thank you InkiSling
I love your videos! thank you for your work and i wish you well this spring!
Thank you Mr. Gravy
You should do what I did. I got rid of all the water lines under my trailer and ran all PEX lines through the inside of my trailer. That will protect the lines from freezing in the winter. Under the trailer where the water line comes from the ground to the trailer, I built an insulated box to surround the pipe. I then cut an opening through the trailer floor right above the box and installed a couple of computer fans in the opening to blow warm air from the trailer down into the insulated box. I haven't had a water line freeze up since I did this. I live in south eastern PA and we get some real cold temps in the winter and also get very strong winds.
I've already replace everything with PEX
@@MDC2020 I seen that, I was just saying that when it is an area that gets real cold, it is best to run it inside the trailer instead of the outside.
Dude, you had me up till 3 a.m. last night LMBO with you (not at you). I feel every bit of your shock and awe at what you have encountered!
Thanks for the information.
Is copper not used as much anymore due to the cost?
Quite a few people are changing to PEX because crack heads steal the copper to sell for scrap and get money. At least that is the case in Washington state.
@@christinelabrie1430 hahaha I just made a comment about him hiring a crack head to clean up under the trailer. hahaha
@@christinelabrie1430 same case here in Ohio as well. They will steal it and let your house flood. They did that to my God Mothers rental property.
@@staciemckenty-assal8949 Down the road from our house a guy broke into a house and was taking what he thought was copper piping but it ended up being the natural gas line and it exploded because he was smoking a cigarette whilst stealing this stuff. He lived believe it or not!!! Moron.
Pex is amazing, everyone uses it today, its very easy to work with and when installed correctly to code it holds up very well.
You would make a great building trades teacher. You know a lot. Great info and I learned something 😊. Take care.
PB is polybutylene Pope.. ifused in co
Pex pipe is best if using underground in areas of cold weather.. freezing .. polybutylene is a form of plastic resins.. we used poly in our business and it broke down and leaked like a sieve.. pex pipe is good but rats , squirrels etc.. rodents that chew can be a problem with any softer flexible pipe that can be cut with a sharp object..
