    My SAIS went critical and put my truck into limp mode just over a week ago (2014 TRD, 113k kilometers). THANKFULLY I had the ECP Platinum package and was able to get the replacement covered under warranty (2700 otherwise at the dealership) It was in my fanatic researches that lead me to the Unifilter mod and this channel (filter should be here in a couple of days, thank you!!) I have been watching a lot of your other videos and love the information I am gaining. I bought (2) K&N versions and just re-oil one of them every other oil change and then clean the other one. It's a little dirty but honestly it could probably go much longer... 10K frequency seems good enough. Also I removed the housing and leave it off. I think it lets the filter breathe a little more easily. I live in Phoenix so we don't get a lot of rain , moisture here so that's not likely an issue.

    I haven't checked mine, but tbh I'm not sure that I ever planned to. If Toyota thought that foam filter would last forever, the higher quality unifilter will probably last a good long time. I've had mine in for a year, I'll look at it when I next clean my k&n air filter.

    Forgot to mention that you did not CLEAN the filter before oiling it.
    For my K&N filters, there is a special cleaning spray which you spray on, let sit, then rinse the dirt and debris off. Then let fully dry, before adding the oil.
    Some people have recommended soaking in Dawn dishwashing detergent for a while, rinse, then let dry before adding the oil.
    Wonder if you can use the K&N cleaner and oil for this UNI air filter?

    So I have 2 questions:
    1) Once you put the filter in place, and then add the protective cover, nothing but the bottom of the filter is exposed. Wouldn’t that drastically reduce the air intake? Because before you removed and discarded the old cap, air entered in a 360° area.
    2) Did you notice ANY discernible difference in performance when you installed this filter? You mentioned in another video that it sounded different when you turned OFF the vehicle. But what about when accelerating, revving, or idling? Any difference?

    • @Tacomaholic
      @Tacomaholic  2 роки тому

      The SAIS system is only related to emissions and has no bearing on the engine's performance. You can hear that system sucking in a last bit of air when you turn the truck off because of the new filter placed outside of the unit.

    • @RaymondMillbrae
      @RaymondMillbrae 2 роки тому

      @@Tacomaholic that is strange, because didn’t you say that if the foam breaks down and gets sucked into certain parts (restricting air intake), the vehicle would be sluggish, and some people reported that it would not go over 45 mph?
      So I would assume restriction to air DOES impede the performance.
      I was just asking because I am curious if you knew anything else about this.

    • @Tacomaholic
      @Tacomaholic  2 роки тому +1

      @@RaymondMillbrae I know Toyota just added the system to be emissions compliant during the 2nd Gen Era. Here's their definition of what the system does: "Secondary Air Injection Pump. ... An emissions component, that is part of the secondary air injection system, which is responsible for pumping clean air into the vehicle's exhaust stream to promote a cleaner and more complete burn before the fumes exit the tailpipe."

    what don't you show the inside of the cover and the fan blades. would be interesting to see the condition of everything in there. it did not look like any dirt came out. Also, do you know of anybody running the original foam and the UNI filter together? Although you would have to find or make a new little foam filter.

    • @Tacomaholic
      @Tacomaholic  11 місяців тому

      Running both the OEM and UNI filter together might throw a code as it would restrict the air flow too much.
