I always laugh when I hear a brummie accent because of what happened to me in the early 70s. A mate convinced me to go with him to watch a Villa match, although we lived about 100 miles away. As we were standing in a pub in Brum, a Villa fan heard us speaking and asked where we were from. We replied that we were from Berkshire. He then said "Burkshoya? Foony accent you have in Burkshoya". We both stood there stunned, and after about 5 seconds we both cracked up and couldn't stop laughing.
This is a Black Country accent which is considerably different if you’re local - though that said this is a poor imitation
@@Cal97g - of all Harry Enfield's funny stuff I thought this was the weakest. I know there's quite a difference between the Brummie accent and Black Country. There was a brilliant episode of Kevin Turvey called "The Man Behind the Green Door" with Rik Mayall and of all people Robbie Coltraine doing what I assume was a Black Country accent.
This is a Black Country accent, it’s insulting to call us brummies, and this is clearly meant to be a hammed up accent
I apologise to all of you who have said it's a Black Country accent. I should know better because although I lived in Brum for a while I had friends and even a relative in the Black Country.

Best place to see these sorts of characters in real life is at school reunions. There is always someone who turns up and is now a millionaire and likes telling everyone how well they are doing

Love the Brummiee accent, now living in S. Africa, Ex-RAF, Bridgnorth, Cosford, two daughters still there.
As extreme as this may be, almost everyone I know that has made a bit of money in business has developed varying degrees of this persona - they think their ideas about everything should be taken more seriously because they are obviously smarter, given that they are richer..
My ex's family were like that... She wanted me to meet her brother and his wife for Christmas... They asked her "what car does he drive? how big is his house? does he own his own business?" When she told them I was a health care assistant that helped people with autism, etc. they sharp came up with an excuse not to meet me. In their eyes helping the less fortunate was a complete and pointless waste of time and they couldn't see why anybody would stoop to such a "shitty job." We pretty much broke up about 2 months later because they "opened her eyes" as it were. Her family had to have the best of ALL their friends.. They'd buy expensive things and not even use them just so they could say they had the "slightly better model."
Absolutely pathetic, I guarantee that those type of people will never lead a happy life, not living like that, the “I’m better than you” attitude, they wouldn’t have any friends for starters.

Your job is more than just money and you actually help people for a living! I could be a billionaire and I would never look down on anyone
I work in a care home. I look after vulnerable elderly folk.. The amount of people who think it's beneath them is unreal. Ask em of they could do it though... They fold so quick
@@philpants44 my wife worked in care homes for a number of years, so I know how difficult it is, I for one couldn’t do it

Love the way the accent hovers around the west midlands, shoots off to Newcastle via Yorkshire and then takes a detour via South Africa.
Its okay because Frank and Ang ended up being considerably richer than Stanley and Pammy

My grandad was a strange one, from a middle class family but married my gran (both long gone now sadly) who was a working class common woman and got threatened to be chucked out of his family, he stuck to his guns and married her a few years after the war, however when my parents met especially after my dad became ill a few years into their marriage my grandfather told her to divorce him and told my dad he would never be good enough for his daughter (or to be in the family) funny thing is one of my aunts is on her 5th marriage, has 5 kids all from different dads one of which is a junkie who had stolen tens of thousands of pounds from my grandparents alone in identity fraud, stolen credit cards yet my family being on benefits due to dads illness was meant to be the black sheep!

We knew a couple just like that, lovely grand house, a Merc, all the trimmings - funny thing was they let their diddlo son take the reins of their business, and guess what, he drove it straight into a brick wall and they lost everything! Ended up living in an ordinary house with a 10 year old car and NO retirement provision whatsoever, she didn't even quality for State Pension as she never paid NI. Couldn't have happened to a nicer couple. Even funnier thing was they openly stated they thought education was quite unimportant and a waste of time and they were perfect examples of how you can get rich without it!! ( prob as they had two painfully thick dullards for sons ). Well we laughed.............Now WE are considerably richer than them, and they don't speak to us anymore.

@@bernadettemurray8260 After their downfall they became quite nasty to different groups of people on the net/social media. They really slagged off those that voted to remain in the EU and were REALLY horrible to those with weight issues and the unemployed (who they were horrible about before their fall into poverty). It really put the tin hat on their social circle, which evaporated. I hear they still think they are aristocrats though some of the toffee they post on social media.

@maxthelab I had a few customers who handed a well-established business to pampered No.1 Son who then subsequently caused said business to decline by wasteful poor management, similar to what you describe.
