"Too much" is probably the very definition of "Rings of Saturn" - can be fun sometimes.

Another one of those The Faceless-type bands, where like 30 people rotated through the line-up, yet their output overall is really strong. Shame they lost the vocalist though.

    "What IS this?"
A combination of (much) sounds and (no) silence 😁

Love these guys! Its totally understandable to be overwhelmed, but these guys really do have a crazy diverse discography despite all mostly staying at high speed, with some very pretty and melodic slower parts in tracks (theyre also crazy live)

This is a band for which watching live videos is incredibly beneficial. These guys can pull off virtually the same performances live as in studio. The entire band is pretty much composed of robots.

Glad to see you finally got to some real ROS, the other tracks you have checked out were when a different second guitar player was in and writing and his writing style isn't really the Rings style like this is. After that dude left, the original second guitarist rejoined the band and they wrote this album. This is 100% what their style is like.
If your curious at all how they play this stuff there are guitar and drum playthroughs from the members. The drums were recorded by a legendary session drummer in the extreme metal scene. His name is Lord Marco, he's done drums for a TON of metal albums and he's insane as you heard. His full time gig is with the OG death metal band Six Feet Under (MUCH slower and sludgier stuff).
ROS's whole shtick is "alien-core" metal, so that is present in all their lyrics and imagery. Everything is just extreme and incredibly technical, so i can see how it can be off-putting to people. They use 8 and 9 string guitars, don't have a bassist, the guitar players just record bass for the album.
I think this album and Lugal Ki En are my favorite albums from them, it's good stuff if you're into that sorta thing. lol.
    Cheers!

Your comments make me think you might actually enjoy Buckethead: He has much more conventional metal/rock structures (No insane blast beats and double bass or anything like that) And he can be a very melodic player leaning extremely heavily on the pentatonic stuff at times as well and then for short passages when he wants it to be more chaotic well, he takes off in a flurry of chromatic 16th tapping notes that honestly do a great job at sounding even robotic...Then he just bust out of it with an incredible pentatonic run once more so I think you might like the stuff you liked about Rings of Saturn but without the extreme rhytmic choices of tech death

Could you possibly do a review of the album spirit phone by lemon demon? It's a very interesting album and personally one of my favorites of all time (there's also a lot of bonus tracks that you don't particularly need to get into but they'd still be a fun listen)

I've always wished that these guys would tone it down just like 20% or something, I like small parts of their sound, small parts here and there of their songs, but in total I just cannot haha, It's just too much all the time. I mean, I really super respect them for doing what they're doing I just cannot get into it sadly... I of course don't mean that I actually want them to tone it down because their fans obviously like it!

Berried alive was part of the original line up for Reflections. It’s very apparent on their first album where the guitar leads are truly insane, likewise for their second release. But The Fantasy Effect is where it’s really apparent

With bands like these I can enjoy the product but I can't help myself but suspect there's a lot of studio/post-production magic involved.

@@adino20 I'm not necessarilly saying it's wrong. I just value "realness", for the lack of better terms, and I like more dirty, natural sound, including imperfections. As mentioned in the video, it may as well be played by a computer at this point, and I honestly wouldn't know the difference; that said, it fits the hypertechnological and alien themes, so it's not inherently a bad thing. In short I'm not saying anyone should care, just that I do.

I prefer RoS full instrumental version album. Check out Dark Matter Secret, they have same vibe.
