Brother I loved the way you took this track, it says a lot for your hability to appreciate and identify creativity that you enjoyed the track from the first listening, let me tell you that I LOVE this song, I think it represents very good how far heavy music has gone, reaching this heights and power.. cheers

Sumac are probably the only modern "heavy" band that can touch me deeply. First time i saw them live i was totally blown away. I'm curious to hear the new album next month. I suggest you to listen/react to "The task" from their album "Love in Shadow".

Nick Yacyshyn is definitely one of the most underknown drummers out there, amazing talent

the heaviest nod they get from me out of their whole discography. it is this particular song.
the guitar intro lick for the second movement at the end of Image of Control (i) is well-arranged and works effectively to drive the long riff that comes afterward. in fact, the whole idea of the first movement is to display the great virtuoso of what they've achieved as a group abstractly, yet in an extremely controlled state - different execution compared to the "free jazz" record with Keiji Haino but with the same essence. movement ii indicates creative efforts between heavy music nerds in producing forward-thinking music without eliminating too much musicality. brute but human. the result is the "heaviest" sludge metal force that is organic & flawless which can be compared to if not equal to any great modern art statement. a third listen confirms.

I liked it: pleasant Doomy-Deathy stuff the way it should be nowadays.

What did I just listen to? The first part was too chaotic really...

Which makes the non-chaotic parts stand out all the more.

It's the opening track to the album and the chaotic intro is an intentional assault on the senses to clear the way for what's to come. It remains one of my favorite SUMAC songs, and it's incredibly intense live.

Both answers make perfectly sense. I didn't know the band, so fir a first-time listen it was a bit difficult to comprehend 🙂🙃

A little bit of nice Sabbath inspiration in there (War Pigs).
Overall a bit too chaotic and abrasive (even) for me though.

This sounds like a lightweight Borbetomagus. Now, there is band that is impossibly heavy! 😀

I heard them live once. I didn't make that mistake again. Too extreme for me!
Kind of like Charles Gayle. I heard him live once and I remembering thinking after that fact that I had not enjoyed it even a little bit. Haha.

@@rudymeixell3426 I love both of them. But I do admit that they are very extreme.
