According to the DVD commentary, when Ed attempts to cheer Shaun up at the Winchester with plans of binge drinking, he is actually summarizing the events of the next day (Z-day) entirely in drinking references. "Bloody Mary" - Checkout Girl in the back garden, "Bite at the King's Head" - Philip, "Couple" - David and Di, "Little Princess" - Liz, "Stagger back" - impersonate zombies, "Bar for shots" - firing the rifle at the Winchester.

Fun Fact: Dianne didn't die when she went after David. She used one of his legs to defend herself from the zombies and hid in a tree till the military rescued her. Another Fun Fact: Shaun tells Liz that he's going to take her to "The Place That Does All The Fish". Sean's mum here is a well-known English actress with a *lot* of Shakespeare and similar high-end drama to her name, so seeing her playing such a modern, ordinary, mumsy character was pretty unusual for the highly-accomplished actress.
That would be Penelope Wilton..... who is not a Shakespearean actor at all and famous for humorous roles in Doctor Who, Ever Decreasing Circles, The Borrowers, After Life, Clockwise and Downton Abbey.

When Shaun is on the phone with his mother and Ed says "We're coming to get you, Barbara!", that's a reference to the original Night of the Living Dead, where a brother torments his sister by telling her "They're coming to get you, Barbara." in a creepy voice.
Wow, first reaction Ive seen of this movie where the watchers didnt like it! And eating chocolate during the movie, missing all the funny bits, and just chatting about the food was SUPER frustrating to watch! - It was like you didn't care what was going on in the film. You had already truned off! - (didn't come for a choc bar review!) This is a true classic movie.... SO GOOD!
They dont care about any film they watch, unless it has bunnies and unicorns and kids and a love story. Just making $$$ is all. I do find all the talking and eating very annoying.
@@ssnyder2985 They cared enough to say they didn't like it and they get flamed for it. I would rather hear someone say they don't like it than pander to their audience and pretend to like everything.
@@tiffanym.3506 The point is, people have voted for this because they enjoy the movie, and then these 2 ignore and talk about stupid things instead of watching. Total old definition of airhead, dumb blonde, etc. If you're going to take your check from UA-cam, respect your audience. All this from some ditz who has had 16 automobile accidents.
Simon Pegg regretted the continuity error of there being no trace of blood on the sole of his shoe in the next scene where he puts his feet up on the coffee table.
You calling the shop a 'dairy' is beyond adorable. In the U.K. it's called a Newsagents where they sell Newspapers, ice creams and everything in between. They're pretty much on every corner in England and I assume you have the same in your country 😀
Ever since the candy reviews I had to again unsub from the patreon. Candy review fine, movie reaction fine. Both and you wonder why you don't get the movie...
I feel like you were subconciously avoiding being scared so you were not really paying attention.. you missed a lot. Be aware in case you watch the other movies in the trilogy, they are full of references to other movies but also internal references to the movie itself. u have to pay attention, this movies are famous for people still finding jokes and references in the dialogue or the background after the 4th watch.
Obviously, I'm sure your sister and yourself are aware, once you start the Cornetto trilogy, you have to do all 3, you just have to .... But obviously, you're aware of this
You missed several joke's at the beginning whilst discussing choccies, like shauns mum said people don't eat meat these day's & edds dialogue predicts all the movie a bloody Mary, the girl in the garden, shots at the bar etc...
i did notice those bits! just didn’t comment on them at the time, it took a bit to settle into this type of movie but found it much funnier in the rewatch and have been quoting it “it’s on RANDOM”
The snacking has never bothered me, but here it was super-distracting. I realize when you’re watching the movie, prob not much is happening at the time for you to miss; but you forget that we’re watching an edited version, so there’s a lot happening for us that you’re talking over. I rec that you break out the snacks before you start the flick. Open the pkg, taste them, talk about them. (Maybe mention, ‘Not a sponsor’.) Then continue to snack during the movie.
Yup... out of all the great reactions I've seen on this channel, this one I came REALLY close to thumbing down. They were far more interested in babbling about food than actually watching the film.
I feel you two missed a LOT of clever things in this movie because you were far too distracted by chocolate to pay attention. So many little things and details happened while both of you were looking down or talking over it. British humour is a lot more reliant on paying attention than American comedies than tend to spoon feed the audience more.
Especially after the prologue that they said "I don't know how to react in comedies, you are not trying to figure something out (what?) or looking the action (what? why not?) you're just laughing along" Oh, come on! Don't dismiss movies like that, please give them a proper chance first. Watch the movie, pay a little bit attention. This movie has so many details and it's such a great comedy.
Agreed. They totally missed the various people in the background coming back as zombies. Like the couple making out outside the Winchester and them still being there after Shawn and Ed come out at the end of the night and the multiple "you got red on you".
came to the comments to see if someone noticed the same thing, the whole nuance and basically the theme of the movie is expressed in the beginning, that people were zombies already.. and they were setting that whole narrative up.
I love the two walks to the shop and how similar and different they are before and after the zombies. They didn’t even notice. Or how a lot of the things they say actually come true later. Very disappointed.
Glad I wasn't the only one thinking this. More like having a chin wag about chocolate with the film on in the background. Do that rubbish before the film starts.
@@gordon861 Whoa, half the movie? Good thing I stopped at 8 minutes when they missed the couple 'necking' outside the bar. Maybe I'll try watching the video again just to have them on when I don't have to pay attention to them. But for now, I'll waiting on for their next video.
I'm a fan of the Channel and I was really excited that you put Shaun of The Dead, one of my favourite movie on your poll the other day. I honestly can't wait to see your reaction to the witty and subtle things that Edgar Wright put all over this movie. But frankly I'm disappointed by the fact that you didn't put all your attention to the movie, I mean it's a light hearted movie and everyone can enjoy it however they want but it's a reaction channel and people expect to see the reaction.
The most frustrating thing is when people are not paying attention to the funny bits because they are discussing cookies or chocolate or whatever and then complain "I want to laugh".
This movie ain’t for everyone, Edgar wright makes very fast paced movies and very detailed scenes, these two are chick flick enjoyers that enjoy a good romance movie. I love Shaun of the dead with all my heart but I know some people who didn’t like this one bc they didn’t understand the humour. Again not all movies are for everyone
And what I meant to say is that you had your hands over your face. Not just interested in chocolate. Don't change Carly. It seems there are a lot of haters in the comments today.
@@blanketstarry7725 What, they didn't hang on every word, hear absolutely every joke. maybe you should start your own reaction channel. And outdo their success.
Don't want to be a negative nancy but you have to watch this movie carefully. Your missing the subtle jokes. Watch it again and your see how many people live their lives like zombies. This is a very intelligent comedy.
That’s the point of the beginning of the movie, for sure (that we move through life like zombies already). I love this movie. I really like all the Edgar Wright/Simon Pegg/Nick Frost collabs. I prefer to pay attention to movies but certainly don’t look askance at random snacking (this is how my sisters and I also watch movies when we’re together). I don’t expect critical film commentary on cinematography, direction, screenwriting, etc. from Cassie/Carly. I see this channel as being an educational journey more for them than us, as they expand their cinematic horizons. And you won’t know what works for you until you try watching a broad scope of movies! I would recommend they pause if they’re really going to dig into their snacks, or do it as a preamble for the movie. I enjoy hearing about what they’re going to eat, of course!
And there's a lot of great callbacks and references to the genre that went way over their heads. of course good movies stand on their own, but I truly believe context is key for this very reason. Once you understand the goals and inspirations it can really make a product better.
One of those cases where a parody of a genre ends up being so good that it veers its way around into being one of the best films of the genre. This really is one of the best zombie films ever made. Or are we not using the zed word? Sidenote, took me a second to find you and your sister in the thumbnail. When I did, I had a good laugh.
I recall reading or hearing somewhere that the filmmakers were not trying to make a comedy with zombies, they wanted to make a zombie movie that was funny.
There's a lot in the early part of the movie that you missed, while you were sorting out the chocolates. A lot of the visual pieces of the story that set up later parts of the film got passed over.
Loads missed throughout the entire movie. The interest wasn't there this time, what with snacks and chatter about other films, all while the movie played on in the background.
This was partially filmed outside my house in London. I've never seen anyone be terrified by this film. It's hilarious. I think Hot Fuzz is the superior film though. Definitely see that. It's such a quintessentially British film. The mum making sandwiches during a zombie apocalypse and going to the pub until it all blows over. 🤣
@@doghousereilly3795 Hot Fuzz is the best in Cornetto trilogy, but The World's End is my absolute favourite. Go into that one unspoiled - it's fantastic
I liked hot fuzz but I think Shaun was the funnier film, maybe because so many Hollywood action films (that I love) became so overblown they were almost parodys themselves
Hot Fuzz is the more refined of the two. Since I grew up in that area, I can see where they've edited across different locations, which kinda takes you out of the film.
One of my favourite movies. You guys definitely gave a reaction, but not the one expected haha. I think maybe you talked over a lot of the funniest bits :p
They were talking all over the early part of the film about red velvet chocolate of all things. The problem is that although this is a comedy it is a film with a story and they were talking all over the start of the film where the story was being set up.
To be fair, they werent talking about the chocolate that much, especially in the full react. They obviously just werent into it sadly. I love movies like this but anytime I try to get my sister to watch a British comedy I find hilarious she just rapidly tunes out. So I think it simply didnt 'click' for these gals, at least they stuck it out to the end! Its unfortunate but we dont all like the same things. Id prefer an honest reaction over the canned fake stuff most reaction channels do. I think many people in these comments are trying to find something to blame it on (ie the sweets) because they cant accept someone might not like their favorite comedy.
@@sergeantbigmac yea i think people are missing the point that they werent distracted by the snacks, they were just bored with the film and trying to get through it bc its what the audience asked for. Yes agree, but it is totally British sense of humour. Zombies, we will have sit down , have a cup of tea, and wait for it blow over. No need to panic. I loved this film. From neckin g couples, have you not had your tea!!! The mother was brilliant, so like mother's, I'm sure Betty and ed live around here. If you want live like an animal than go live in the shed, which ed does at the end. Don't think they got the British humour. Ok, I voted for 28 days later in that last poll. Just ignore that. I didn't realize it was this bad. It's a really good movie, but your sister won't be able to handle it.
lol you guys are just like my wife; were 9 min in and im yelling at you to pay attention cuz your missing all the bits that are about to come into play! The setup for this film is so brilliant!!!
I normally really like your reactions, but that's to the shows or movies. This was a snack reaction which to be honest, I don't find the least bit enjoyable. I bailed out of this episode 7 minutes in.
This is also one of those movies where if you watch it a second or third time, you begin to notice jokes that you missed in the background and you end up getting more out of it and it improves up on repeat viewings.
I'm so glad seeing comments speaking what I thought watching this whole reaction. Don't even bother watching the rest of the Cornetto trilogy, please. Those movies aren't for you.
This is hands down my favorite reaction channel on UA-cam. That said, I do have some light constructive criticism; I wish you would chill out a little bit on the distracting, snack commentary. Recently you have gotten into the habit of talking about some random candy while the movie is still playing and then you'll usually be confused about certain plot points because you were talking or otherwise distracted during key scenes. You've had the little snack segment for as long as I've been watching your channel but you didn't used to talk over key dialog or disappear off camera to rummage for candy while the movie is running. I love your channel because your reactions are so real and honest and it's fun for your fans to see someone watching some of our favorite movies with an open mind and a kind soul and I feel like the prolonged candy commentary kinda gets in the way of that.
I'm scared to watch this reaction everyone in the comments saying you guys aren't paying attention. It's super frustrating sometimes because certain movies you have to actually pay attention. A lot of reactors have the same problem.
So many talk way too much, firing questions at the screen or being distracted by their pet. The host of this channel usually give her focus and investment to whatever movie she's watching. But when she has company, it becomes a party of two.
I think when they froze open-mouthed and held their breath at "He touched me" and wordlessly exhaled in relief at "That wasn't true", I realised this was basically going to be dead on arrival.
I love all the “repeated dialogue”, like… “Who the hell put this on?!” “It’s on random” “For F*** Sake” Or the “shooting quotes” that Ed and Shaun use playing video games and then shooting zombies in the pub
I love your reactions.. BUT lol... as a guy who struggles to get my wife to pay attention when we watch a movie together it drives me absolutely bonkers when you two disregard what's going on and focus on snacks... serious PTSD. lmao. Drives me batty..
Because they are typically not into watching scary movies? They have grown up since. Just watch those and stop commenting on the fact that you don’t like it.
99% of the time, I love watching your reaction channel, (and I always try to hit that like button) but watching you guys being distracted with the snacks at the beginning of this movie was making me sad that you were missing some key (and quite clever) lead-ins of the story.

This is comedy you have to pay attention to. They set up jokes a few scenes before the punchline lands. If you were not paying attention, which you guys were not doing in the beginning you missed some jokes.
Our British sense of humour can be a little difficult for some non Brits to understand. That being said this film is so funny. It was fun watching you two react. You have to watch Paul and Hot Fuzz!
I wouldn't say British humor is difficult. One of my favorite TV shows of all time is the UK version of Coupling. I've watched every episode of that show so many times and it is still hilarious.
British humor is dry, sacrastic and often self deprecating. British like to downplay dramatic events by saying "nevermind" and it's hard for that to sink in to people used to watching American humor and it's not for everyone. The best crash course in British humor is Monty Python's Flying Circus.
I don’t like seeing her on the reactions, she spoils so many. Both these two need a reality check and get a grip, living in their white picket fence cookie land.
Honestly my favourite part of this movie is in the opening where the normal, non-zombie people are kind of behaving like "zombies" .. as in just mindlessly doing things and following routines. Shaun does this too as there's more than once instance of him staggering around and moaning/yawning which evokes zombie-like behaviour. Bit of a social commentary tucked away there.
The brilliant part about it was that because of it he didn't even notice the chaos going on all around him, and the zombies didn't notice him either. He blended in perfectly with the zombies so they ignored him. He himself was already in a zombified state before the apocalypse even happened.
Yvonne, the female character who keeps appearing is Jessica Hynes. She starred with Simon Pegg in Spaced (a British SitCom). It also featured Ed (Nick Frost). It was their first big break and is much loved in the UK. Please consider watching Hot Fuzz. It is hilarious!!
This is the first the 'Cornetto Trilogy', so called because in each movie they eat an ice cream call a 'Cornetto'. All three films starred Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. 'Shaun of the Dead' is my joint favourite, with 'Hot Fuzz', and 'The World's End' being the last of the 3 movies, all directed by Edgar Wright. They are also in the movie 'Paul' which is just as hilarious. The movie takes more than one watch as a lot of the beginning characters can be seen after they have been turned into zombies.
This movie has some of the best comedic timing of any movie I've ever seen. Also, whoever does the custom Popcorn in Bed font in the style of each movie you react to, it's fantastic every time!

The late great George A. Romero is renowned as the godfather of the Zombie movie genre and was writer/ director of Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead and many others. He loved this parody so much that Simon Pegg and Director Edgar Wright were given cameos as zombies in his 2005 film Land of the Dead.

And if Carly was grossed out by Shawn of the Dead (!) maybe she's not your movie buddy for these kinds of films. Love ya Carly! I'll watch Little Women with you any time!

And eating chocolate during the movie, missing all the funny bits, and just chatting about the food was SUPER frustrating to watch! - It was like you didn't care what was going on in the film. You had already truned off! - (didn't come for a choc bar review!)
This is a true classic movie.... SO GOOD!

I adore this movie. Shaun in the dairy slipping on a pool of blood - that we don't even see - is a delicious bit of sly physical comedy.
Simon Pegg actually improvised the slip just for fun and Edgar Wright kept it and also added the sound because it was brilliant
Sadly if you look in the background you can see there’s no puddle :( Still a great little beat though!
Dairy? It's a corner shop or a newsagents.
They're pretty much on every corner in England and I assume you have the same in your country 😀
you missed some of the funnier visual gags by chatting to each other. you really need to save that till the end

Nailed it.
You're alone

You’re definitely NOT alone. Super distracting. They paid far more attention to that stupid chocolate than to the movie.
This is a "react to everything except the movie" video pretty much.
Yep, every other one was okay but this one they did react to everything but the film

Cassie: Talking about World War Z.

I fear this movie was lost on you and your sister
Cause this movie is wank
I feel you two missed a LOT of clever things in this movie because you were far too distracted by chocolate to pay attention. So many little things and details happened while both of you were looking down or talking over it.
British humour is a lot more reliant on paying attention than American comedies than tend to spoon feed the audience more.
Especially after the prologue that they said "I don't know how to react in comedies, you are not trying to figure something out (what?) or looking the action (what? why not?) you're just laughing along"
Oh, come on! Don't dismiss movies like that, please give them a proper chance first. Watch the movie, pay a little bit attention. This movie has so many details and it's such a great comedy.
Yeah, this is definitely not their type of movie, but dry humor needs your full attention to get it.
Guys - i wouldn't say you were paying THAT much attention to this film... and a HELL of a lot towards cookie dough.
They forgot they are technically getting paid to watch them
Yes the first half did seem like a sweets reaction video.
Glad I wasn't the only one thinking this. More like having a chin wag about chocolate with the film on in the background.
Do that rubbish before the film starts.
I suspect it was a purposeful avoidance of the violence on the screen. But yeah, this isn’t a movie you can half-watch!

This movie ain’t for everyone, Edgar wright makes very fast paced movies and very detailed scenes, these two are chick flick enjoyers that enjoy a good romance movie. I prefer to pay attention to movies but certainly don’t look askance at random snacking (this is how my sisters and I also watch movies when we’re together). I don’t expect critical film commentary on cinematography, direction, screenwriting, etc. from Cassie/Carly.

The same old routine every day and just going through the motions
The movie takes more than one watch as a lot of the beginning characters can be seen after they have been turned into

I love Edgar Wrights movies, his style of directing and editing is so fun to watch. There's so many great references that connect this movie to Hot Fuzz and The World's End. Although my favorite reference from Shaun of the Dead was "We're coming to get you Barbara!" Which was a nod to Night of the Living Dead, when Johnny teased his sister with "They're coming to get you Barbara."
i have a feeling Cassie would really really love Baby Driver.
The music in The World's End is so good, too.
To those mentioning Spaced, I heartily endorse those recommendations, it's a brilliant show, with humour working on many different levels. I must also add a big credit to Simon Pegg's co-writer on Spaced, Jessica Stevenson (now Jessica Hynes), who is in a couple of scenes of Shaun Of The Dead as his old friend Yvonne.
Probably best not to watch it with ones sister and a ton of cookies though; or so much will be missed again.
Don't really think these two would appreciate something like Spaced if this type of humor doesn't connect with them.
@@goldenholdenolden I dunno, that style takes a bit of accustomisation, but they're smart and I'm sure they'd get into it.
I love you two, but I feel like a lot of the jokes and references went over your heads.
Yeah, its a great movie. But you´re gonna miss a lot if you dont pay attention.
She didnt even pause the movie when she left to get the snacks. I had to stop watching it was just making me mad.
@@Icureditwithmybrain how do you know the snacks weren't in the same room as her? She could probably see and hear the TV from where she went. Quit jumping to conclusions.
