I think this Dave Chappelle guy may have a future in comedy...
Until guilty white liberals come along and protest him for....telling jokes.
Nah, he sneezes too much.
Hahahaha
He ruled the comedy world 2004 and 2005
He was funny in Con Air.
Cary was doing Winston Churchill and Dave was doing Malcom X. The hangman in this is also the hangman in Blazing Saddles
"Everyone's equal in my eye!!"
@@Sure0FootHedy Lamar: 😂😂😂😂😂😂
@@geoffwilliams4478 Hedley!
@@donnaroo8042 Don't be so uptight. This is 2024. You'lll be able to sue her.
Dave Chappelle is very vocal and straightforward about how much he admires Mel Brooks, and how grateful he is that Mel cast him in this movie. Because Dave was fairly unknown at the time, but Mel saw his standup on "Star Search" (where he was competing against an unknown Justin Timberlake), and liked him...so he put him in his movie. And that opened a lot of doors for Dave. So Dave talks about Mel as a real mentor who took him under his wing.
Oh wow . That is history right here .
And he was only 19 when this was made.
yep Mel was a big help in making Dave known.
Because the English accent joke didn't work in other languages, each country created their own joke for the scene. From the IMDB: For the German dubbed version, the gag was changed to: "because I, unlike some other Robin Hoods, do not cost the producers five million". The German word "kosten" (cost) was also pronounced to sound a little bit like Costner. In the French (France) and Italian (Italy) dubbed versions, it is translated as, "Because unlike other Robin Hoods, I do not dance with the wolves", referring to another Kevin Costner movie Dances with Wolves (1990). In Quebec, the translation becomes "Because unlike other Robin Hoods, I accept to wear tights", which refers to the fact that Costner didn't wear tights in the 1991 movie. In the Hungarian version, he says "Because unlike Kevin Costner, I have a shapely bottom", a reference to the infamous fact that Costner used a body double in the nude scene.
that is amazing!
To this day the Brits still make fun of Costners terrible accent. "Fresh from the airport" only one worse is Dick Van Dykes terrible Cockney.
I've seen this movie literally like 70 times and I never knew what other countries put on that joke. lol
wow
Thanks for this. I never knew
Damn, learned something new! Thanks!
Cary Elwes told a story about meeting Kevin Costner while he was at a Comic Con. All he said to Cary was "That was a great line!"
"And why should the people listen to you?"
"Because, unlike some other Robin Hoods, I can speak with an English accent."
That burn was meant to sting. This is what the world needs. More uncontrollable laughter, smiles and good times... Mel Brooks is a national treasure and still going strong at 96 years of age.
That surprised me when Cassie said at 18:44 "when I watching Kevin Costner I didn't even notice, it didn't even once cross my mind to me that he should be speaking in an English accent" especially when she saw Errol Flynn speak with one also so she should have expected it by then
@@ArgonTheAware Errol Flynn was Australian.
@@anthonyvasquezactor But Errol Flynn can speak with an English accent just like Cary Elwes can that is the point that Kevin Costner that did not when the others did
I'm not totally sure, but I think I heard somewhere that the real Robin Hood's accent might have been closer to French.
@@peterseaboldt1250 Maybe you are thinking of Shrek where the Robin Hood spoke with a French accent until Fiona went all Matrix on his ass
The Arsenio hall audience whoomps, the Florida State tomahawk chop, patriot missiles. My God the ending nailed the early to mid 90s
The "I can speak with an English accent" joke is also an in-joke about the fact that Cary has lived in the U.S. for a long time and he says he started to lose his British accent when he came here for college. When you listen to him in interviews around the time this movie was filmed, Cary actually does not naturally have an accent, so he had to put one on for the film.
Fun fact: Dom DeLuise is not just doing a Godfather parody. He’s also parodying his role of Don Cannoli from Cannonball Run II.
"this cat is dead..."
He is also parodying Brando in "the Freshman" which is itself a send up of the Godfather. He has the lizard because Brando's character was smuggling Komodo dragons in that film.
Now you're ready to watch Blazing Saddles, it's a must in Mel Brooks movies.
i never get why people have such a boner for that movie.....
it's not funny...... it's a complete mess story wise, and just doesn't go anywhere.....
I love that this movie isn’t just a spoof of Prince of Thieves. There are a lot callbacks to the Errol Flynn Adventures of Robin Hood film as well. Such as Robin crashing Prince John’s party while carrying a boar (a deer in the Flynn film), the shadows on the wall during final duel, and of course the tights.
Good point. Most younger people probably only know about the latest with Costner.
Blinkin was played so well as a running gag. Not just the jokes, but the fact that they included him in the cinematography. They can always be seen leading him or just letting him do whatever
Best blind jokes until Toph of Avatar Last Airbender.
"He's black?!" 😂
@@vanyadolly “it worked in blazing saddles.”
_"Blinkin! What are you doing up there?"_
And let's be honest, he kicked that pole's ASS in that sword fight!
Statler: "The Legend of Robin Hood will never die!"
Waldorf: "No but it sure got wounded pretty bad tonight."
I remember the first time I saw this when it came out, as a kid. I laughed soo hard when Little John falls into the stream and thinks he’s drowning. At the time it was the funniest thing I’ve ever seen.
And then he went on to Disney for Good luck Charlie.
hear hear. I remember seeing this in theaters as a kid and loving it. I've seen it so many times!
Thank you for dropping the "I'm not a witch, I'm your wife" comment. Every time I watch "Princess Bride" Carol Kane cracks me up with that line.
Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein are usually considered the best Mel Brooks movies.
It's pronounced "eye-gor"
I’m? The Producers? Usually rated his very best I think you’ll find.
Sadly, Spaceballs and Men in Tights two of his weakest, in my view.
@@cormacflynn4916 The Producers is well up there, but it took longer to be appreciated.
The best scene in a Mel Brooks movie is "The Spanish Inquisition".
Hump? What hump?
You didn’t seem to know Scarlett O’Hara, main character from Gone With the Wind, all time classic movie
Blinkin fighting that wooden beam gets me everytime🤣🤣🤣🤣
For me it's the EXIT sign above the doorway when Robin grabs "the right rope!"
Me too! Whenever my brother and I are winded after doing something, we always mime Blinkin’s stance before he picks back up again 😂 so many quotable moments in this movie
"Did you say Abe Lincoln?" Is still one of my favorite lines from a movie ever. Whenever one of my friends says something and we don't hear each other that's usually our comeback instead of what? or huh?
The great thing about Carey Elwes is that he's been in so many different types of movies and played different types of characters. However whether he's a good guy, or an ass he's always great in his roles.
I believe the speech that Achew was giving was Malcom X.
The Patriot arrow is a reference to the Patriot missile that the US gave to Israel to defend themselves during the Gulf War around 91-92. It was famous for its accuracy in shooting down incoming missiles.
The fox made a dolphin sound. I think that might have been in reference to the TV show Flipper?
I forgot how many big name actors were in this. And yes, that's Patrick Stewart (Captain Picard in Star Trek) as King Richard at the end. And that's probably actually fairly close to how he really sounds.
Patrick Steward did an Scottish accent in the movie. It was for mimicking Sean Connery.
He is from Yorkshire.
Here is he speaking with his natural accent.
ua-cam.com/video/4MSjFHJ9ffw/v-deo.html
The speech by Dave was def a Malcolm X stump speech, Denzel Washington did a great performance of it in the movie.
Also, the speech Robin Hood was giving was a Winston Churchill speech 🤣
Correct. Malcom X said "We didn't land on Plymouth Rock, Plymouth Rock landed on us."
@@udman008 you’re being Hornswoggled, you’re being Bamboozled!
Yes it was a Flipper reference
Cary Elwes was actually offered the role as Robin Hood in "Prince of Thieves", but turned it down because he read the script and thought the story was too contrived
😲 That's sad, because he would have been GREAT in that role, and it was a huge hit. Obviously, audiences didn't feel it was contrived.
I love that movie, but I don't think Costner was very good in it. I wonder what might have been...
@@nsasupporter7557 He also played the antagonist Kent Gregory in Hot Shots.
That would have been so funny if Cary Elwes had played Robin Hood in BOTH "Prince of Thieves" and "Men in Tights"!
“I’m not a witch, I’m your wife!” - amazing reference 😂
The "Walk this way" line is a reference to another Mel Brooks film; 'Young Frankenstein.'
With Halloween coming up I think it is a must watch.
What hump?
@@coyotefever105 damn your eyes
Too late 😂😂
What knockers!
Frau blucher *horse neighs*
Also in History of the World Part 1 lol
Thank you for watching Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves first! So many other reactors watch this one without realizing it's a fairly direct parody of that movie (as well as some of the other classic Robin Hood movies as well, of course, but mainly that one).
A couple nice call-backs to the 1938 version as well. Though the line "Trayf!" is newish....
I watched Men in Tights several times before I even knew Prince of Thieves existed; watching it years later was a kind of surreal experience
Now that she's seen both Top Gun movies hopefully Hot Shots won't be far behind.
Yeah, watching Prince of Thieves and the Errol Flynn versions are essential for full enjoyment of this movie.
@@MattKeller I would love to se her watch the Hot Shots movies! They are so funny!
Also, Cassie, Achoo wasnt "doing a movie" he was saying part of Malcolm X's speech
And Robin was doing Winston Churchill
One gag nobody mentions is when Latrine is dragging the Sheriff after saving him, it's shot exactly like Artoo-Detoo dragging C-3PO across the floor of the Millennium Falcon while escaping Cloud City in Empire Strikes Back.
The 'Lend me your ears' gag is always my favorite from this movie. Especially his 'that's disgusting' at the end.
"unlike some others, I can speak in an convincing English accent"
The pure burn for Kevin Costner
Only guessing here, but I can't help but think that Kevin Costner tried to speak with an English accent, but it was terrible, so he just did it American style.
@@THOMMGB he varied between attempting one in some scenes and not even trying in others
Patrick Stewart will always be "Captain Jean Luc Picard" for me! 🖖
Engage!
The scene when they sing "we're men in tights" I remember in Theatre Class in Senior year of highschool. We watched the movie, I can't entirely remember the reasoning behind it, and for context there were only about 8 seniors including myself among 20 people in the class. All of the seniors had to get up in the class and perform this song, singing and doing the motions. It was hilarious.
It was funny you mentioned Sean Connery because he did play an older Robin Hood in the 1976 movie Robin and Marian. His son, Jason Connery, played a version of Robert of Huntingdon in the TV series Robin of Sherwood, which showed in the US on Showtime in the early 80s. He replaced Michael Praed who played Robin of Loxley for the first two seasons.
Men In Tights and the animated '73 Robin Hood were staples of our house at various points of growing up. It's so fun to see them more than a decade later being watched by someone for the first time!
OMG me too 😂😊
Rocket Robin Hood?
For me it was that and the old black and white Richard Greene series. Fast forward 15 years and I loved Robin of Sherwood.
THIS is the Robin Hood movie I've been waiting for!
Haha same
Somebody make a meme from X-Men First Class. I prefer the real Robin. No, the real Robin.
Fun fact: I went to school with the actress who played Marion. She's also in the TV movie Splash 2, in The House 2; & she was in a sitcom called Wings.
Patriot Arrow, because Patriot Missiles were stars of the Persian Gulf War.
The effeminate "walk this way" bit is reused from Young Frankenstein. The "black sheriff" is from Blazing Saddles.
The screaming kid is a parody of the boy in Home Alone.
She was also the double-crossing reporter in "The Mask" with Jim Carrey.
The subtle jokes are amazing. Like when when the witch gives the sheriff the pill that will save him and it’s a lifesaver mint.
Yay, fun reaction. More Mel Brooks required, especially Blazing Saddles seeing as it was mentioned in this.
And may I suggest Young Frankenstein for Halloween??
Double feature for Halloween with Dracula: Dead And Loving It.
Yes please!!!!!!
Blazing Saddles quote: My grandmother was Dutch.
Young Frankenstein quote: Cointenly. You take the blonde and I'll take the one in the toiben.
Dracula Dead and Loving it quote: Oh, I didn't know you had your hand in that.
You read this in their voices, didn't you?
Young Frankenstein stands on it's own as a great comedy, however it is a pretty direct spoof of the 1931 Frankenstein film, with bits of The Bride of Frankenstein (1935) and Son of Frankenstein (1939).
Young Frankenstein is, in my opinion,Brooks' best work. It takes itself seriously enough to be a legitimate movie, but is still hilariously funny.
At 21:00 Robin was doing a Winston Churchill speech that was famous from WWII and at 21:17 Achoo was doing the speech from the movie Malcolm X that Denzel Washington did Plus at 31:45 it wasn't a fox sound it was a dolphin sound from the old Flipper TV show
"They call him Flipper, Flipper, faster than lighting, under the the sea ..."
The fox / fax joke didn't really hold up but it's still funny for those who remember
You forgot the "Hey Abbott" line, it was from the old Abbott and Costello movies.
@@libertarianguy5567 I didn't forget but Cassie didn't ask about it like she did the others. I guess she didn't notice the relevance to the skits like Who's on First
Matthew Poretta the actor that plays Will Scarlett O'Hara also played Robin Hood. It was in the late 90s TV show "The new Adventure of Robin hood". One of my favourite childhood TV shows. It had quite a few major actors in it like Christopher Lee (Saruman).
Also huge, lol that you didn't noticed that atrocious Kevin Costner English accent that came and went.
little John "drowning" and Blinkin fighting the beam at rapid speed will always make me laugh out loud.
Much like Spaceballs it’s the villainous characters that prove the most quotable. Richard Lewis and Roger Rees are so hilarious as Prince John and Rottingham.
Indeed.
Spoken like a smoothie… a definite smoothie! 👍🏻
@@jonathanoneill8011 Funny! Very amusing.
The sillyness is what makes this hilarious in my opinion! It's basically full of dad jokes! Glad you've watched it and can't wait for the next one!
I'm a dad now, but I wasn't when this was released, so to us they were just...jokes.😁
Some make ya groan some make ya laugh but an overwhelming amount of them and even the groan turns into a chuckle.
Cassie making references from other movies warms my heart. I quote movies all the time with close friends and it makes me happy she's watching the classics.
Fun fact: the fight choreographer also designed the swordfights for Errol Flynn (including the original Robin Hood)
Blinkin is one of the greatest characters in movie history. This movie is beyond silly, but when it came out it was just...perfect because of Prince of Thieves. Most Mel Brooks movies are over the top with hit or miss silly humor, but still enjoyable for the most part. It's not for everyone, but I do wonder how they all managed to keep a straight face with some of the scenes.
In the speeches after “lend me your ears”, Cary does Winston Churchill and Dave does Malcom X.
I love the way that Mel Brooks manages to poke fun at source material that he loves, that's the difference between parody and mockery. It's a subtle difference, but it's there. Like the Englich accent bit... Kevin Costner's performance was so amazing that, like you, I never even thought about his lack of accent until seeing this lol. And the 4th wall breaks always get me too lol.
I think that bit about the black sheriff toward the end was meant to tell you that your next mel brooks movie should totally be blazing saddles 😁
Lol, I knew she was going to hate this. I’m cracking up…….she was literally trying so hard to play along. Oh poor Cassie, that smile of pain will be etched in my memory forever lol. You did well though. You’re a trooper.
I will say I thought the movie was fun because I like the silliness, but this cast was awesome. Cary Elwes can literally make anything work.
You couldn’t have said it better. I really felt for her, she was really trying….
The walk this way joke and the Prince's moving mole are both references to Young Frankenstein.
I suspect the local law enforcement clarifying his dialogue is as well.
21:20 that is from a very famous speech by civil rights activist Malcome X, it was originally "We didn't land on Plymouth Rock, Plymouth Rock landed on us." It became extra well known after the movie about him staring Denzle Washington.
To answer your question, Little John was played by Eric Allen Kramer. He's been in many movies and tv shows since the late 80s. One role of note, he was the first live action Thor in two Incredible Hulk TV movies. Given your age, you'd probably remember him from the Disney tv show Wizards of Waverly Place.
The bit with the knights as dominoes is an homage to a great film from the 195os called The Court Jester. A fantastic film, right up your alley, and co-stars Angela Lansbury, back when she was leading-lady hot.
Agreed! And the hey nonny nonny thing was in that too, don't know whether they were directly referencing the court jester here though.
One of my favourite films growing up. A shame so little people seem to know about it. I'd like to see more reaction videos about it. Yay, verily yay!
Everybody watch Court Jester!
I always loved The Court Jester. Little known fact was that Basil Rathbone, who played the bad guy and was himself a world class swordsman, taught Danny Kaye, who'd never touched a sword before, to fence, and Danny Kaye was so adept at mimicry that he wound up giving Basil a real run for his money when it came time for their real onscreen duel scenes.
"The pellet with the poison's in the vessel with the pestle, the challis from the palace has the brew that is true." The first time I watched it was because Basil Rathbone was in it.
Every time you open a bag, somewhere a chill runs down Carly's spine. 😄
The Rabbah was played by Mel Brooks, the guy who wrote and directed this film, and one of the greatest comedy writers in history. He wrote History of the World: part 1.
Another great Mel Brooks movie to consider would be "Dracula: Dead and Loving It". It's a spoof of Bram Stoker's Dracula with Keanu Reeves and Gary Oldman, plus it's October soon, perfect timing I say, cheers!
Make it a double feature and watch love at first bite too.
Isn't Leslie Nielsen playing Dracula, because I think that he did.
Cassie!!! As much as Ive enjoyed watching this movie in the past, it was so much funnier watching you cringe at the corny jokes😂😂😂
One of the best reasons that I watch your channel is that you don't hold anything back 😅 your reactions are so genuine
"Young Frankenstein", "Blazing Saddles" and "The Producers" are a must...
So fun to watch your journey through the hood 🙂
If I may suggest a film for your classics/comedy collection, you might consider "The Court Jester" with Danny Kaye. It is basically a full-length demonstration of his comedic acting skills, and they are impressive. Thank you for sharing with us!
Spot on. If only I knew which brew which was true.
I second this! It's shameful how little this movie seems to be known nowadays, it's still hilarious and the colours and costumes are gorgeous (as is Angela Lansbury as Princess Gwendolyn)
The flagon with the dragon has the brew that is true
But the pellet with the poison is in the vessel with the vessel...
I was obsessed with this movie when I was a kid. The funny thing is I had never seen Prince of Thieves, but I still found it hilarious, especially every thing Chappelle did/said.
There are so many jokes/references that are also straight out of the 90s that I think are going right over your head though, haha.
Highly recommend next Robin Hood film to be- Robin and Marion. Stars Sean Connery, Audrey Hepburn & Robert Shaw. Its set in Robin & Marion's and the sherrifs later life and has a very emotional ending, you will be needing tissues.
Hopefully one day you get to Mel Brooks’ first and best film, The Producers (1967).
I can’t wait to watch this!
I would love to see her reaction to the opening night number in the producers.
Danke Schoen, baby!
What I remember most about the first time I watched this movie was my Mom laughing to uncontrollably tears during the Dom DeLuise "Godfather" like scene. My favorite parts are the Sheriff of Rottingham constantly messing up his sentences. "King! illegal forest to pig! wild kill in it! a is!!!" ... "what?" ... "I mean, don't you know it's illegal to kill a wild pig in the king's forest?"
I think you describe Mel Brooks movies perfectly. Something silly that will provide a great laugh at some points. No one will laugh at every joke but everyone will laugh at some joke atleast.
The Mel Brooks spoofs are best watched right after watching the originals aswell, so it was perfect to end your Robin hood journey with!
I've watched this over a dozen times, and I never caught that "Scent of a Woman" joke until you said something. Bravo.🤣
I'm not even sure if it really WAS a reference... but now it is in my opinion, lol.
Same!!! Kudos to her!
This is so much better because you have watched the other movies - it’s all been leading up to this - from the Classic Errol Flynn through the outstanding Disney animated version & Costner / Freeman….
NOW we are truly ready for this gem. Thanks for bringing us along on this Hood-tastic journey! ❤
In case you didn't get it, the kid who runs up to Robin and then runs away screaming, while holding his face, is poking fun at Home Alone. There's a scene in that movie where Macaulay Culkin screams while holding his face. In fact it's on the movie poster.
Dick Van Patten, who played the abbot, also played Princess Vespa's father in Spaceballs. And when the guy in the crowd yells "Hey abbot!", that was a reference to the comedy duo of Abbott and Costello, where Lou Costello would sometimes yell "Hey Abbott!"
Finally, when the King kisses Marion and Brooks says "It's good to be the King.", that's a callback to his earlier movie, History of the World: Part I.
Dave Chappelle (Achoo) his dad was played by Isaac Hayes (Ahsneeze).. He was a singer and he played Chef from South Park
According to his book about the behind the scenes of The Princess Bride, titled As You Wish, Cary Elwes had a particularly rough day making this movie as his friend Andre the Giant passed away while they were shooting Men in Tights.
I generally agree with your view on the movie, it’s very silly and has some real cringey bits, but I still think enough of it is laugh out loud funny to justify it. Of the movies in Mel Brooks canon, it does not live up to his classics like Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein, or The Producers, which you should watch at some point, but it fits nicely into a Robin Hood marathon, particularly after Prince of Thieves. “Unlike some other Robin Hoods, I can speak with an English accent” is a particularly funny dig at Mr. Costner, and I like his take on Robin, but that lack of accent is… a choice.
21:16 This part is a reference to MALCOLM X (1992) ("We didn't land on Plymouth Rock: Plymouth Rock landed on us!") Chapelle is putting on glasses to make himself look more like Denzel Washington in that movie :)
That turn of phrase pre-dates and its usage by Malcolm X.
Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein, and The Producers are Mel Brooks' best films imo.
23:27, remember that Clint Eastwood's major cinema breakthrough were the Spaghetti Westerns (so named for being Italian productions) like "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly", followed later by the "Dirty Harry" movies.
To fully appreciate the Brando references, watch "On the Waterfront".
Great reaction as always, for Halloween you could watch Young Frankenstein, another Mel Brooks film. It was a lot earlier and he hadn’t gotten quite so silly in it and not really scary
Robin and the Seven Hoods from 1964 would also be an interesting addition. All star cast with Fran Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr. and Bing Crosby.
A couple references that you may have missed. During the speech scene, Atchu was quoting Malcolm X. The "Patriot Arrow" was a reference to the Patriot Missile System, a smart defensive missile that was developed around the time of this movie. The news wouldn't shut up about how amazing it was. The "Hey Abbott!" Guy was referencing Lou Costello, a vaudeville comedian from the 30's and 40's. His "straight man" was Bud Abbott.
@23:30 _We thank you for inviting us on the day of your daughter's wedding._
Hahaha, from The Godfather 1972. Luca Brasi, played by Lenny Montana, who was a pro wrestler befor becoming actor.
Love that you did a "As Hood as it Gets" hoodie week. Creative and fun!
Me and my best friend watched this when we were in jr. high and thought it was the funniest thing. Quoted it pretty much the rest of our childhoods. Not gonna lie, dont think it holds up as well as an adult but hey it was nostalgic to see it again.
Richard Lewis’ dead pan delivery of “treif ” when the pig is dropped in front of him is 👌
And Dom Deluise’s “it is quite a drive.” Just perfect 😂
If you’re going to continue reacting to Mel Brooks' films, I know that everyone is recommending Blazing Saddles and don't get me wrong it's my favorite film ever. But another one you should probably watch is "Silent Movie" which is just that. It has lot of stars and tons of slapstick comedy. If you're into that. The weirdest thing in the film is that the only speaking part was by Marcel Marceau who was a professional mime.
Mel Brooks is a comedy genius please do more he has quite a catalog
there are so many little jokes in this but when latrine gives the sheriff the "magic pill", if you look closely, it's a life saver mint 🤣
almost 30 years later and I am *Still* laughing at this movie.
And seeing the other Robin Hood movies makes a lot of the jokes in this version hit much stronger since you have a better frame of reference for some of the parody!
Yeah, with Mel Brooks movies, you have to embrace the absurdity. You have to be ok with laughing while rolling your eyes. It's like laughing at your dad...and that's the charm for me.
A toll is a toll and a roll is a roll and if we don’t get no toll then we don’t eat no rolls. Love that quote. My favorite part is when the Sheriff said “Just you and me and my Guards”!
"Patriot Arrow" was a dated reference to the 1991 Gulf War. The Iraqis used SCUD missiles and the US used "Patriot missiles." Also..... SEE THE GODFATHER OMG LIKE ASAP!!! That scene was obviously a reference to that but also the actor started making nonsensical references to other Brando films, such as On the Waterfront, which was also very good.
My personal favorite Mel Brooks movie is by far Young Frankenstein, and Halloween is just around the corner!
Another good Cary Elwes movie is The Crush with Alicia Silverstone in it, it’s a really good like psychological thriller sort of movie and I really loved it.
My younger brother and I saw it in theaters back in 93 while visiting our Aunt and Uncle in Oregon. I enjoyed it.
The thing with the “Patriot Arrow” - this was right after Gulf War 1 and the “Patriot missile.”
This has been one of my comfort movies since I was like 10. It’s so ridiculous, but brilliant 👌
"A black Sheriff!?"
"Hey, don't act so surprised! I mean it worked in Blazing Saddles." Lol!!
Cassie! Research shows that Mel Brooks did TV parody of Robin Hood called WHEN THINGS WERE ROTTEN. You can find the theme song on UA-cam: "They Laughed, They Loved, They fought They drank...They jumped a lot of Fences...They robbed the Rich, Gave to the Poor...Except what they kept for expenses! So, when other legends are Forgotten, We'll remember that When Things Were Rotten...Yay! For Robin Hood!"
Don Giovanni is an ‘Amadeus’ reference. There’s a scene in the movie where Saliari explains sabotaging Mozart’s opera of the same name while simultaneously loving the hell out of it.
They come in on the ‘Commandatoré’ scene in the movie and it’s pretty metal for an opera (vengeful ghosts, heavy base, hellfire, etc.)
Great movie . Other great Mel Brookes comedy is High Anxiety A spoof on classic Hitchcock movies . You should continue other spoof movie like Top Secret , The Naked Gun Trilogy , Hot Shots , Loaded Weapon, Wayne's World , Austin Powers.
You should also see The Princes Bride with the same lead actor.
Also "It's Good to be the King" is a phrase from another Mel Brooks spoof.
My favorite part of this movie is
"I heard that coming a mile away :) Right-o, Blinkin, very good. Pardon? Who's talking? :)
Hasta la vista!
I could've sworn you had seen _Blazing Saddles,_ well, now ya gotta. Cringy, check, silly, double check.
I haven't seen this one since it first came out, and I'd pretty much forgotten all of it. So glad you enjoyed this one, these have been some fun reactions!
I just adore this movie. Made me laugh out of breath each time. I especially like all the anachronisms (the clapping to turn on the flames, the command to down the portcullis...), the 4th wall breaking jokes like the camera literally breaking a window, all the references to other movies, and of course the Blinkin running jokes.
An other great spoof movie with Cary Elwes is Hot Shots, which is a Top Gun parody. I hope you'll react to it someday.
"I hope it's worth the noise" haha love it
Cassie, you should react to BLAZING SADDLES (1974). Aside from just being a comedy classic, it's a movie that's great to see reaction from, especially from younger people.
