At the end when Gary and Andy are fighting and the bandages on Gary's wrists and the hospital bracelet are revealed.... and the slow realization that Gary was so insistent on completing the golden mile because he intended to relive the best night of his life and then possibly end himself afterwards. Really hits hard.

I love the detail that Gary is the only one who didnt bring luggage. On first watch you think it's a clever bit of characterization since Gary would absolutely be the type not to plan ahead. After the reveal of his hospital bandages, you realize he didnt bring luggage because he didnt plan on seeing tomorrow.

You could look away for a few seconds and miss that bit with the hospital tag, it didn't hit and the dialogue wasn't pushing it either. Enjoyed the film though!

I like the fact that it's a subtle reveal - they could so easily have made it overly obvious a plot point, which would have been mawkish. Granted, it could be very easily missed if you're not paying attention, but the fact it's so subtly acted makes it hit all the harder.

    Quick explanation to the pubs:
    1. First Post: first stop, kinda boring
    2. Old Familiar; Bar looked exactly the same as the first one.
    3. The Famous Cock; First bar where someone actually recognizes Gary
    4. Cross Hands; First fight scene of the movie.
    5. Good Companions: The guys decide to keep up with the crawl and pretend everything is fine.
    6. Trusty Servant; Gary tries to get information out of someone he still trusts, who also used to sell him drugs.
    7. Two Headed Dog: Where they fight a pair of BLANK twins. Fun note: there's a pair of twins in all 3 movies
    8. The Mermaid; Mermaids lure men through song, this is where 3 of the boys get all caught up with " The Marmalade Sandwich" girls
    9. The Beehive; Where Brosnan explains would they want to turn humans in a hive mind. Fun note: The was a bond in 2/3 movies
    10. The King's Head: Where Gary hits his head a bunch of times to prove he's still human.
    11. Hole in the Wall; where a rescue car drives through the wall to save Gary.
    12. The World's End; Self-explanatory.

Not gone lie, the realization of what Gary was up to high key walked me off that very same ledge I was flirting with myself at the time. This trilogy became my favorite ever off of this film because of that. Gary's character is "flawed" personified and it just works especially because throughout the trilogy he's been the more level-headed of the duo. I've loved every Edgar Wright movie I've seen.

  • @WithTwoFlakes
    @WithTwoFlakes 2 місяці тому +3

The way the writing of the opening scene leads you into assuming he is at an AA meeting for his drinking. By the end of the movie, with the reveal of his bandages and hospital wrist tag, you realise it was actually a group therapy session for people at risk of ending themselves. It might be regarded as foreshadowing that Edgar Wright used the same actress who played the first undead zombie in the garden in SOTD to play the lady sat next to him in group as he tells his story.
As for the drinking culture in the UK - back in the day (1970's) me and my mates started going to pubs at 13. We were all big for our age, I was already pushing 6 foot tall. Never got asked my age once. The landlords of the pubs seemed to have a "greater good" attitude I guess, or else just wanted our money. Different for kids now - many places have security on the door, ID checks etc. It was a shock on my first trip to the US going to a sports bar in Michigan with my hosts to see some Final Four b/ball and to be asked for my drivers license by the dude on the door. The guys I'm with were giggling as they knew what was coming. Just so happens that I had my UK license on me as I'd picked up my rental car earlier.
Dude: "This doesn't have your photo on it."
Me: "Yep. UK licenses don't have a photo." (photo licenses were introduced years later in 1998)
Dude: "Where is your DOB on this thing?"
Me: "UK licenses don't have date of birth on them."
Dude: "Well how can I tell it's you and whether you're old enough to drink?"
    Me: "You can't."
By now the queue at the door is getting longer and the guys I'm with were doubled up with laughter. "Just tell him how old you are"
Me: "I'm 34" The doorman just gave up and waved us in...

I remember when I first saw this movie, I came away from it thinking "that's one of the best sci-fi movies ever made". I still stand by that thought. It's such an underrated gem of a movie. It's so good.
The cast is amazing, there's humour, drama, emotion, and you just don't see any of the twists coming AT ALL during the first viewing! And, like most Edgar Wright films. there are SO MANY hidden details you'll only notice in repeat viewings, such as....if you pay enough attention to the background....., you might notice that all of the parked cars are the exact same! They're different colours, sure, but they're all dull colours, and not only are the cars all the same make and model.....they're all hybrids!.Which cleverly mirrors what has happened to the towns inhabitants! They've all become the same, dull hybrids. The only cars that are different, are Garys and Sams.
I also weirdly love that they actually followed through with the whole 'end of the world' thing at the end. So many movies seem too scared to go all the way with a plot like that, because 'our heroes' usually manage to save the day and stop it from happening. Not in this movie. I respect them for that. It also makes me want to see a 4th movie set after this film in a post-apocalypse setting!

That tune in the intro... ''Mark Summers - Summer's Magic''. Takes me back to 1990... And then ''808 State Vs MC Tunes - The Only Rhyme That Bites''. I forgot how good the soundtrack to this was!

I love the Cornetto trilogy. My favourite is different depending on the day. Sometimes this is my favourite. Maybe because I relate to Gary. Hot fuzz is the best film on all points but not always my favourite. I rewatch all three all the time.
This is one that needs rewatches to truly appreciate all the elements and surprisingly has a positive message.

If you didn’t know already, Paddy is also one of the detectives in hot fuzz, and the other detective is the fat young guy in Shaun of the Dead from Shaun’s work, there’s loads and loads of actors that are in both movies!

Another great end of the world comedy is “This is the End” if you haven’t seen it already. Has Seth Rogan, James Franco, Jonah Hill and a million other all stars (even a Rhianna cameo lol).

When I saw this I took some friends out to do the 12 set as well, nailed it 2 times. Golden rule, half an hour each spot and your set. Food before but not during the crawl, unless you really want to, but no stragglers.

The bathroom scene is one of the most brilliant 180s I've seen in a movie. The movie up until this point was kind of grim, just portraying a dude who peaked in high school and has spent his entire life trying to get back to that point. Almost like watching a real therapy patient until then and then bam action movie. I literally screamed out loud when the kids head hit the toilet and exploded "WHAAAT!!?!?!?!?!?!?" when I first saw this. Patty Considine is the only reason I watched House of the Dragon Season 1 and I'm a big GoT fan. Was not happy when he died. Also pretty sure he plays one of the Andy's in hot fuzz. The guy that walked by at 7:31 was Rafe Spall he was in Hot Fuzz and Shaun if I'm not mistaken, and he's been getting into a lot of Hollywood roles too.
This one is a surprisingly "deep" movie portraying a man with significant psychological issues underneath a hilarious body snatchers comedy.

The game of thrones guy, was also 1 of the Andy’s ( detective) in hot fuzz. Also the other Andy in hot fuzz was the 17 yr old on his phone working with Shaun in that appliance store in Shaun of the dead, and in this movie as the couple looking at buying the house.
