    A beard is the human version of a lion's mane. It signifies masculinity -- it's how you know a human male has reached maturity -- they have their mane.

    • @TheMrExemplar

      True, and it also protects against a strike on chin and jaw, just the same purpose as lion's mane, hypothetically speaking

    It's been scientifically proven that a beard:
    1) quadruples handsomeness
    2) drastically increases your wood-chopping ability
    3) will allow you to instictively know where the nearest mountain is
    4) and fits your face perfectly.

    I have a really good theory ive been thinking about...
    Hair in general can be kind of a 6th sense which we used to perceive other things, like a cat uses his hair to sense stuff.... thats why hair keeps growing and mutache too. In fact there is an study where they tested the capability of a man to prevent risky situations with long hair and without hair, it was proven the one man with the long hair had the best sense

  • @jagal1990

    That bonus fact isn't really true, I've met a bunch of people who never shave their beard but at stop point it just stops growing. Just like the hair on your legs or arms., they don't keep growing, they stop at some point. (I knew there is that guy who has the record for the longest beard and it's like 10 feet or whatever, but this is an exception, and I'm talking what normally happens)

    • @chaseis1badmonkey
      @chaseis1badmonkey 10 років тому +3

      This could be taken hypothetically. Hairs don't, technically, stop growing. They fall out, the follicle takes a breather then starts up again later. So if a hair follicle never took a day off then it may grow to a length of around thirty feet.

    • @jw1741
      @jw1741 Рік тому +1

      @@chaseis1badmonkey nahh wolverines right everyone has a genetically predetermined beard length. A very small percentage of people can grow it to their waistline for the rest of us that's impossible and will never happen no matter how long.
      Generally a beard hits its peak around 2 years and mustache 1 yr.

    So if I don't shave my beard in my entire life, it can grow to 30 feet long. But why doesn't my arm hair do the same? Why does some grow, and some stop? Can we learn and use that? Like, if I get a haircut I like, can I stop it from growing and enjoy the shorter hair?

  • @bobsobol
    @bobsobol 11 років тому +6

    There are some glaring omissions from this answer. I would think it is quite important to point out that bearded women are not a mere curiosity of the Victorian era or a Gnomish fantasy, but are actually not uncommon in certain families. You can lead that fact into another interesting one, that of the Native American "Indian" peoples who would not grow a beard no matter what their gender and throughout their life. However, none retain that gene now due to in-breeding with Europeans.

    • @thetalk3155
      @thetalk3155 Рік тому

      So you're saying theres no pure native anymore?

    • @bobsobol
      @bobsobol Рік тому

      @@thetalk3155 It certainly seems to be something the resurvation natives struggle with.
      North Americans, at least; And I should have been clearer about that. I _hope_ that some of those hidden tribes in the Brazilian rain forests, for example, are... But to test them, you'd have to expose them; And I wouldn't recommend that.
      As we learn the entire human genome, we are also seeing genetic traits we considerd a matter of breeding, spreading in populations faster than human breeding! Suggesting a genetic migration, and communication which is asexual.
      The most popular theory, at the moment, seems to be viral. Virus pick up the genes of their host, and even jump species, and our immune system (if we survive infection) keeps bits of virus DNA in our own, in order to recognise and defend against it in future.
      So, even if you did test isolated tribe members in South America and found European, or African DNA, (most Asian DNA you would expect, as they seem to have a shared heritage ... Though, more Mongolian than "Indian" I believe) it could have passed through virus crossing species with wildlife.

    England only announced its plan to go metric in the 60s but still hasn't gone all-in. Road signs still say Miles not Kilometres. Statutes only regulate on which system to use when engaging in commercial activities.
    ie it's quite normal in England to be sold a Kilogramme of apples, then have the greengrocer tell you that the nearest place to buy cutlery is half a mile away.

    Bonus fact: Manes protect lions from the bites of other attacking predators (most of them attack the neck to kill), a long beard could have a similar effect plus helping against scragging from other human cavemen.
    Women might not grow them because men were usually the ones fighting for territory or the appreciation of women :D

    A To stop our throats being bitten out. Just, like lions.
    Q Which predators would do that?
    A The only predator left, Adult Men.
    Q Why would one adult male human try to bite out the throat of another adult male human?
