Buying a home in Vancouver is impressive enough. Buying a single family home in Vancouver is even more impressive. Renovating that same home AND planning to completely demolish it later to build a brand new luxury home in its place from scratch? Holy shit. Nick is loaded.
If you don't live in an HOA area ('cause apparently Canada has this horror too), you can consider pulling up the grass and installing clover which doesn't need to be mowed and is more beneficial to local wildlife in the form of not needing to be watered as much as grass, having flowers for local insects, doesn't deplete as much nutrients from the soil, and causes less pollution ('cause it doesn't need to be mowed and less water uptake), and is easier to maintain overall. If you're really HOA free, you can pull up all the grass and then let local wildflowers take over the lawn, though this depends on the neighborhood. And that's far, far more beneficial than any grass you may have as it benefits birds, insects and local wildlife. I'm pro no-maintenance lawns that benefit the planet.
@@skylady64ish93 I did this to my parents' lawn before I left for college. I let the whole thing turn to wildflowers, and only did mild weeding and there was an increase of insects, birds, etc that came to the garden. And unlike what people think, it didn't choke out the existing plants there at all. In fact, we got a record harvest of rhubarb and tomatoes. The rhubarb got huge. My parents ripped it out despite all of the buttercups, the bluebells, the queen anne's lace, etc, and then the amount of birds and insects died with it. They couldn't identify the "useful" plants and thought it was "ugly". But I thought having butterflies and bees come to the garden was awe inspiring... apparently they didn't because they didn't sit there for hours seeing the wildlife that increased around it. Years later now it's a trend with gardeners to try to boost the productivity of their gardens. But you can also try to get local seed mixes too. They take no tending and when I did it in conjunction with the garden I didn't have to water it as much either.
Ugh, I was with you in your story, happy buzzing 🌾🦋thriving natural world, and then the ending - your parents 💔broke my heart. Some people really are so divorced from nature that it’s an eyesore or something to fear or loathe.😣
If you're still in Vancouver a single family home is a big accomplishment--the re-decorating will come, and we will all benefit from the discoveries you make along the way. Happy Housewarming!
Well. It wasn't completely impossible. My sister bought a 1960s house a few blks from marine drive station only 6 years ago, 1.2m. Yes.... a whole single detached house on real land in a good part of van... 2 mths ago, I bought a condo close to olympic village station... 700sq foot 670k. It's definitely impossible now. Yes my home is expensive. But...... location location location. Convenient to EVERYTHING
"you dont see paige wassel sitting in a dog bed for their updates" im SO GLAD someone said it!! i've always appreciated your authenticity/relatability compared to other design influencers
Make sure you put all the furniture against the wall, get a nice small rug and some verticals for the living room, add a seaside/marine theme in the bathroom, hang all the artwork up high and have a ball making your new home 😏. Congrats Nick - love you and your videos!
Things I’ve learned about owning a lawn: 1) the more you water the more it grows. 2) if you cut it too short it turns brown, so raise your mower and cut small bites at a time. 3) just hire a gardener, ask your neighbors to find one.
Something we do occasionally is let our lawn grow longer, the roots grow deeper and we find that it stays green over arid summers, this approach is also eco friendly as when you cut it short the roots sequester carbon in the soil, much safer than in forests which might burn.
The best thing about Reolink is that it's not cloud based so you control the footage and you don't have to worry about your cameras shutting off because they decided to stop supporting it.
I just recently returned Home from a 10 day Hospitalization due to complications with my condition and I was in an exhausted place, physically and mentally. When I saw this video pop up, an unceasing smile came over my face. I felt, instantly, at ease. You could speak upon anything, truly, and I would still feel grateful and captivated by your humor-suffused presence, Nick. Also, when I clicked this video, it showed there were 213 comments. I very often see this number in Life ever since my Mother's Death. She Died on February 13th (2/13), and seeing 213 feels very much like a sign to me now. Her Soulmate in color-form was Green. I adore those Green paint options you shared. Best of luck in your new and evolving Home. 🖤🕯🖤
Just a thought for lighting... last older home we lived in, best thing we ever did was put in one of those tube skylights. It's affordable, easy to install, and brings in a ton of natural light. Doesn't look like a spot light and doesn't leak.
Living in the midwest (US ) in the country , all of us along our road & lane mow our varying acreages plus ditches , frontage areas , etc . at least weekly . Along w/ nice landscaping & seasonal flowers , it creates a neighborhood feel / sense of community for a rural area . 💚
@cynthiajohnston424 I'd say mowing every week gets rid of bee and butterfly friendly plants, which are essential for our pollinators. Also it destroys the habitat for a myriad of insects. However, you live in the countryside, so I'd imagine that your gardens aren't as necessary to the miniature wildlife as urban gardens are. You already have a wonderful diversity of plants and habitats all around you. Living in the middle of town, I love to see grass growing with clumps of daisies, dandelions and other natural plants that many people dismiss as 'weeds'. Years ago, my daughter loved playing in our wild urban garden; she would take her binoculars and watch the comings and goings of our garden visitors. Now, in a little flat, I've filled it with green plants. I envy anyone who can live close to nature :)

Hey Nick, WELCOME to your new home! May it be a place filled with love, joy and peace for you and Sophie. As a dog trainer who has moved house a ridiculous number of times over the years (obviously with the dogs!) I can see absolutely nothing wrong... or even abnormal about sitting in a dog bed in a kitchen... doesn't everyone?! Just a couple of tips to help Sophie settle in really quickly - If you're visiting your new home, take her with you to explore. Don't wash her bed before moving so she has something that smells of her in her new home. And finally on moving day either have friends look after her or shut her in a room that no-one goes in until everything else is packed and gone and then she can go with you without the stress of seeing her current home disappearing (or the danger of getting lost - a number of dogs end up escaping with all the comings and goings, so it's safest if they're not there or are shut away from removal people.) Hope all goes really well and I look forward to the updates.
I just painted a room Benjamin Moore Atrium White. I never hear it mentioned but it's beautiful and a perfect backdrop for my folk art collection. Simply White is beautiful, too. We chose the latest Aura formulation. One coat! No primer. No two coats.
congrats on this next chapter! I just finished renovating my 1 bedroom/1 bath condo and chose simply white for the walls and Chantilly lace for the trim. loving it so far! ❤
Please, please, please 🙏🏻 do not go all white. Be courageous and use colour. It warms a home. It makes it a house a home. My style is very eclectic, I live in a cottage in Ireland that was built sometime in the late 18 hundreds. It’s full of colour and vibrancy and gives me great joy. Congratulations on your new womb and have fun. ♥️
Yes, and white in a low light home = recipe for dingy. Paint pros suggest midtones on the paint swatches for low light homes. Simply White is great but not as a wall color in all exposures.
i know its not your dream home, but you still deserve to be so proud that you did, in fact, buy a home in the GVA. that’s amazing! congrats! can’t wait to see before/afters because whatever you do with those greens will be STUNNING
October Mist was the basis for my entire home's paint choices, I did that color in the kitchen, living and dining rooms. I have no regrets, I treat green like a neutral and it's provided a wonderful and interesting backdrop to my whole house. So happy you love that color too, you won't regret it!!!!
We also just moved after years in the same home. Within 1 week we painted 3 smaller rooms the exact same colors from our first home. Next, the main areas will be painted the same as the previous house. We are used to warmer tones with warmer lighting. The current dingy light gray with bright clear bulbs everywhere (worse than boob lights) makes this feel like an old prison or hospital. The unpainted parts of the house- feel like a strange airBNB. I Thought we were odd for picking the same colors so It’s nice to feel like we are not the only ones doing that. Let the painting begin. It’s exhausting but always worth it. Congratulations!
One trick I learned about choosing paint to get the most light, was holding it at an angle to the light to see which sample reflected the most light. Colors could be very counter intuitive. Just because it was "white", didn't mean it reflected light well. And it was more than just the paint type (e.g. flat, eggshell, etc.)
We just moved into our first house, and this fall we are replacing the grass with a different ground cover that doesn't require as much maintenance. We are thinking about doing creeping phlox or clover. Its good for nature, its pretty with flowers in the spring, and we won't need to mow the lawn nearly as much (or maybe at all).
Congratulations on your new home, and yes, they are a lot of work, but it can be worth it. You can make changes without having to consult a strata board for permission, which is a big plus. I’m looking forward to seeing all the budget friendly changes you will be making to your home; many of your viewers who also don’t want to invest a lot of money in making their homes look more designer will benefit from all your ideas.
When I was in college one of our neighbors used a couple of those type light fixtures as popcorn bowls. They found them in a closet of their rental, and cleaned them up. I now and forever call those popcorn bowl light fixtures. 😊 And, mowing is very dependent on how much water your lawn is getting. More water = more mowing.
@@SnartNik the lock mechanism where it attaches to the door frame has screws in it that usually don’t go in very deep. You can replace them with 2” screws that go into the house frame that make the door less likely to be kicked down.
Some security experts suggest 4” screws. And replacing the thing your door clicks into (forget what it’s called… the whatever… kick plate?). Can you tell I live in an unsecured dwelling still? 😅
congratulations! When you're ready to build something new, there's a company in the area that moves houses that are in the way of new builds and sells/delivers them to other people, which saves a LOT from going to waste, if your house is suitable. Nichol Brothers House Moving. There are quite a few salvaged houses in the Gulf Islands.
Congrats to you, Nick! If it were me I have to get the popcorn off the ceilings before I moved in. It's so much easier to do it first. Lawd, that is a messy job.
Or skim coat it. Scary to scrape or trust others to do a good job, if it’s got asbestos. And in the U.S., homes were permitted to have asbestos popcorn ceilings until supplies ran out in the mid-late ‘80s, so anything built or renovated around then or prior is likely to be asbestos-containing popcorn. Horrid stuff.
Congratulations Nick! As a first time home owner-nearly four years in, yes, there’s maintenance and upkeep that we obviously knew management would handle like mowing grass, etc. during those apartment living days. However as time went on I began to enjoy it and express gratitude because it’s mine…so enjoy the journey! And guess what! As you evolve and make the house your home-rebuilding might not be your dream anymore. ❤
Congrats Nick. For whatever reason, for low ceilings, the linen lampshades are by far the best to me. Actually one on very wide or oversized side would be the best, I wish they would put some kind of a lens so you can't see the inside from the bottom.
Congrats, Nick! As soon as I saw those kitchen cupboards, I said to myself---Nick will paint those suckers, STAT! Good luck and we'll all be waiting to see what you do.
Lol. Thats the colors of my cabinets. I love them, but they show more dirt then one would think. Also my cabinets include shelves for decorative items, and they are always dusty. Our kitchen has lots of light and the cabinets are fine otherwise.
Congratulations on your new home. All white is a good base color to brighten and freshen things up until you decide on your decor then you may want to add more color. Take your time. Love the green. Good choice. Have fun and let us viewers in on your new journey.
A big garish light turning on outside is a terrific deterrent to prevent criminal activity. Home invasions & break-ins prefer darkness - be safe, Nick ❤
I really recommend working with a landscaper to replace the lawn with low care shrubs, perennial flowers and low care trees, unless of course you like the lawn! Do whatever is best for you.
Yes! Nick way to go!! 🎉🎉 Go for the dark green! I feel darker colours are more classic and timeless It’s gonna be so weird seeing a new background in your videos and I don’t think I’m emotionally ready for such a big change 😅😅 And yes, any kind of yard work is SUCH a chore honestly, so I suggest you look into yard alternatives, like clover lawns, stone/pebble gardens etc-something low-maintenance.
Idea! Use an AI generated backdrop of old apt. and gradually morph into new apt. as you populate it to ease above person into 2024...as you can tell, not very tech savvy but anything's possible...
Yes. If you don't have a lot of money to spend on renovations, then paint and really good lighting is the way to go. You can completely change a room just with lighting alone. Levels of lighting and dimmable LEDs can work miracles.
Congrats on your new home! I bought my first house a year ago. It was built in 1947 and has LOTS of windows! I'll be busy forever fixing up the house and yard. After a year I have enough living room furniture plus my dining table and chairs so my house has become a home since I had my first party. I'm going to love watching the progress on your house!
I am so excited for you, Nick. It will be fun to see you in a new spot. The kitchen cabinets look pretty dark, but the kitchen looks like it might be a workable size. Congratulations!
My apartment has that same exact ugly ceiling light! I loved the tour of your apartment and it's huge outdoor patio, just gorgeous! CONGRATULATIONS NICK & SOPHIE on your New House!! 🤗♥️☘️🐾🌈☮️🇨🇦🕊
Welcome to the club. I am currently renovating my granny's old house too to move into and it is lots of work beside the regular daily life. Especially ripping off wallpapers can be very time consuming, plus sometimes you don't know where to start as there are so many things to be done. Ripping down wallpapers, sanding down wood panels on walls or cellings, painting ceillings and doors, door frames, in this half timbered house you have a lot of clay walls and on those you take off wallpaper along with the clay walls, which then have to be fixed up again- which I like. An endless list with things to so. But especially after living in Ireland for 18 years where you have to take the furniture your landlord gives you for the rental, here I can start with a blank canvas and make it my own. And I CANNOT WAIT for the wallpapers, walls and doors be done and to start furnishing and decorating the place. This will be the cherry on top of all tasks and the pleasurable part, but it's still a lot of work till then. At least I will be appreciation it more with all the work I put in... Wishing you a very happy time in your new old house Nick!
The thinking that an older home doesn’t have a lot of windows is something of a fallacy. From about 1885-1915 in the US houses were built with big and tall windows, and lots of them, usually 2-4 in each room! Then the War came a d smaller resources which meant smaller windows. Then a Depression, followed by ANOTHER War. Canada suffered similarly. Windows got bigger again in the late 60s/70s. So you bought a mid century home. It will be great in Simply White!
White is absolutely a good idea to brighten up a dark space. I splashed cheap white paint in my garage and it was incredibly the difference it made just being able to see more because light reflected rather than being absorbed.
Congratulations on your new purchase...very exciting. I look forward to seeing all the amazing and chic upgrades you put into it to make it your style 😁
Wishing you all the blessings for your new home Nick! I live in an old home with not a lot of natural light. Let me tell you, it does affect your mood, especially if you're not used to that type of environment (I'm an expat & used to live in a big house with big windows, floor to ceiling French windows & of course lots of light & landscaping). My 2 cents worth: Choose cosy colours for winter, but with summer darker tone colours will feel as if they are stealing any sunlight that manages to peek in & if you wake up in a shitty mood wanting an instant lift that only NATURAL LIGHT can bring ..... So for the living areas & kitchen you should definitely err on the side of caution & choose the lighter tones when painting the walls & with kitchen cabinets.
Congrats on buying your home. And buying an older home means you can make it your own. And if you don't have an HOA then don't worry about the lawn. We mow ours like every 10-14 days. We don't have an HOA breathing down our neck. Very nice to have a large enough lot to build a new home later on it. You can always rent out the older one. 😊
I painted most of my 1960’s house mostly simply while - perfect for brightening up the house and as a blank canvas to add art and colour in other ways. I also just started painting my kitchen simply white and peele green.
A tiny bit of advice on your yard if it is small get yourself electric cordless lawn mower so much easier to operate..... tress add value..but Eliminate gardens, there's a lot of weeding and uptake..... Go for a huge patio with a couple pots that have flowers... Much easier❤
About gardens - lay weedmat, cut holes to plant ornamental shrubs, cover with a heavy mulch. No weeds. I did this nearly four years ago and there are no weeds.
Eliminating gardens is not the way. We need plants, trees, native vegetation more than ever before. Just work smart rather than hard with native plants and trees. Very minimal care needed.
Congratulations! Please show you painting your cabinets, as I want to paint mine also. But I want to do it right so chunks of paint don’t come off. Consider replacing the lawn with that Hawaiian grass that stays short. ❤
Luckily, my spouse and I were able to pay off our mortgage early. We took the money we were spending to accelerate our mortgage repayment and invested it right away while we were both still working. We were able to retire early after accumulating what would have been our home payment for over 7 years and maxing out our 401K/403B plans. Thankfully, both of our parents taught in us the importance of living within our means.
Investing without proper guidance can lead to mistakes and losses. I know this since I've been there myself. Seeking guidance from a professional is preferable if you're new to investing or don't have much time.
Investors can have different investing results even with the best strategy and suitable assets. Understanding how experience plays a critical part in successful investing is key. Since I was aware of this, I consulted a market analyst for advice, which helped me build my account to about a million dollars. Having strategically cashed out just prior to the market correction, I'm now taking advantage of buying opportunities once more.
How can one find a verifiable financial planner? I would not mind looking up the professional that helped you. I will be retiring in two years and I might need some management on my much larger portfolio. Don't want to take any chances
Sorry,Nick that such a long term relationship has ended. Good that you are still friends. Best of everything going forward, we will go with you on your older home spruce up and anything else life throws your way! Love, my friend. 🩵
Wonderful adventure in front of you! I bloody love that feeling when you are figuring out your new space. Broke or rich, it's a blast. When I was a student (gen X/millenial), my friends and I were always picking up furniture from skips. My first rental, I painted the room deep red, then glazed it with industrial shellac (bonkers, but it looked like a catwalk), with huge fluorescent stars from the pound shop scattered here and there to shine mellow cool light at night. We made hanging lamps from thin wire and cheap coloured plastic tracing sheets and cut Japanese symbols in it, and mounted a stuffed raven with paper crown on the edge of a wardrobe, and we sat on the salvaged mismatched chairs and drank absolute plonk and had a grand old time of it. And nowadays I have been doing the work thing for ages, and I have my money and I wear all my appropriate current time drags and pay my mortgage and walk the walk, and in my heart of hearts, my preferred style is still circus chic. But the best of it were the friendships, and they all linger. :)
Nick, we’re on the same page! I’ve been living in a condo since 2013 and I have built my home from the ground up and is now on its finishing touches. My bedroom is moody green and kitchen cabinets are in army green. 🥰 congrats on your 600k milestone too! 😃🎉
So excited for you! Life can be challenging at times, but the process of coming through on the other side is when we learn the most about ourselves. Congratulations on the new home, and can't wait to see your design choices.
My Partner and I bought our house like a year and a half ago and we've been happily painting rooms all the blues green grays (I've always wanted and he just wanted not to have to live with white walls) . Our house is from the 1850's and is pretty good condition but all the wallpaper left isn't in great shape (previous owners had a very destructive cat), but its not the worst so we're just going to slowly going through and stripping it and just repainting the rooms for now. Future me might want to put in some accent walls of fun wallpaper but I'm not wild about all of the walls being busy wallpaper.
Congratulations on the new home! As for the lawn, friends in Denver replaced there's with a low profile, low maintenance clover a few years ago and have never had to mow again -they love it!
Congrats! Nick, I’d highly encourage you to look into the no lawn movement! Basically you can plant native pollinators or ground covers and don’t have to mow the lawn. Better for the environment and reduces temperatures better than grass does! It can be much lower maintenance too. I think the only downside is some neighbours might not like it.
Congratulations, Nick. It is a genius move to dive into home ownership and instantly have a new vehicle for content on your channel! Depending on your lot size, you may want to invest in a lawn service. Helps keep up curb appeal while you concentrate on the aesthetic of outdoor projects.
Yaaaaaaay Nick!!!!! I am so so so very happy for you!!! I've been following you for a long while now and I appreciate watching your journey. Cheers for all of the great things that are ahead!!!
Congrats! Hope to hear the "choice of lawn mower" video soon! I would suggest an electric push-behind mower that is self-propelled, such as the EGO mower. Be sure to get an extra battery. The nice thing about these is that they fold up very small and don't take much space to store- they can store vertically, and also have push-on, push-off start so you can stop and start at any time. Yes, normally one would mow weekly from April to July, then perhaps every other week until October depending on what has grown. Make sure your lawn is easy to maintain, such as have an area for plants and then an area that is just grass without a lot of plantings, so you don't have to mow around much of anything so it is easy to maintain.
Congratulations!! think you will love green cabinets. I just finished a kitchen renovation with them--one of my inspo pics overlaps with yours, even. My favorite part of moving to a single family home from an apartment is the light. Even if the windows are small, you can enjoy how the sun moves across your home throughout the day. Living there you will get all sorts of great inspiration for how you want to design your eventual new build. Congrats again, can't wait to watch it unfold :)
there's a behr color called 'jojoba' which I LOVE. It's fairly light, and has enough blue in it to not be yellowing greenish but it's still a green. I've painted it in a north facing room with little natural light and now in my west facing bedroom and I think its a really great shade! 💚
Happy for you Nick. I bought a 1984 house last year. I've spent the past year doing yard stuff, digging dead bushes up, and doing rock landscaping. In in Houston and it's so hot doing this....lol. oh well. Next I'll update my interior. Can't wait to do something with these stupid popcorn walls. Oh God....what a feat that will be.
Congratulations on getting your new home Nick. I hope and look forward to getting to see the little design things that you do to fix it up without singing a lot of money in it. It’ll be nice to see lots of little things that most people can do to give a little update or make a little change in their home on a budget.
Hi Nick, Congrats on the house! Just a quickie thought.....I don't think "simply white" will necessarily have the effect you desire - though it is the best choice for maintaining a grey aesthetic while trying to lighten a space. I've spent most of my life living in 70's built spaces with limited natural daylight- it can get depressing. White walls never help to truly lighten - brightening the space becomes necessary. I had to brighten my spaces with hue/color - always avoiding grey tones as grey is always cool - even when its a warm grey. The light warm beige on the walls at present is brightening the rooms. White - without natural daylight - will always read as a duller, grey tone. The space will not actually be lightened or brightened. Your kitchen background at present is a perfect example. The white tiles of the backsplash are reading as a medium to dark grey even though their surface has a noticeable sheen. The warm, light beige walls add the only lightness/brightness in the room at present. (They do rather clash with the rest of the space.) Having a grey personal aesthetic as you do, will mean your existing furnishings will work with ease with white walls. Basically - I think we're all about to learn all there is to know about creative lighting and what is possible to achieve. This should be interesting and fun!

I love this suggestion! I am closing on my new HOA free home tomorrow and plan on not having a traditional lawn. ❤🐛🦋🦅🐝

If you're still in Vancouver a single family home is a big accomplishment--the re-decorating will come, and we will all benefit from the discoveries you make along the way. Happy Housewarming!
Right? I live in the lowermainland and I can't imagine it happening for me and I own a place (obviously not single family).
@@sl3772 i feel ya. I lived in Vancouver for years, loved our neighbourhood, but decided not to settle there for similar reasons.
"you dont see paige wassel sitting in a dog bed for their updates" im SO GLAD someone said it!! i've always appreciated your authenticity/relatability compared to other design influencers
she is actually so chill, idk why it sounded that way :O
Grats on your new house!! You may be sitting on a dog bed, but it's a very TASTEFUL dog bed!
He's just livin the best "I just moved" life, like the rest of us sitting on our dog beds eating freezer-burnt peeksa, and very tired.
😂
Or grow native clover or ground cover that doesn't grow very high and is better for native species. 🙂
@@LaLayla99 this! I turned my lawn into a bee haven
We live in New Mexico. We tried having a small lawn for awhile, but we over fertilized it and it died. So, now it's all rocks!
The best thing about Reolink is that it's not cloud based so you control the footage and you don't have to worry about your cameras shutting off because they decided to stop supporting it.
Good to know!
so where are the videos stored?
i'd also like to know
Congratulations Nick! I do hope you take us along on your home’s rejuvenation journey. You know we love that stuff!
This video should have opened with Nick opening his front door and going, "Oh hi AD, welcome to my new home, step inside." 😂
Yes! but for real: could we have live reaction videos to AD videos?
I'm so sorry for your struggles and wishing you as well as can be managed
Hope you're soon feeling better!
Wow! (About the number and color green.)
Wishing you improved health .
Just a thought for lighting... last older home we lived in, best thing we ever did was put in one of those tube skylights. It's affordable, easy to install, and brings in a ton of natural light. Doesn't look like a spot light and doesn't leak.
Green kitchen cabinets would be so nice! ..I love that you think mowing your lawn once a week is excessive. 😄
I too love both of the greens; i'm a green kind of girl! I too laughed @ once a wk mowing as we mow our .70 acreage every 5 days @ 3 or 4" height.
I also had to giggle at the "excessive mowing" comment.
Living in the midwest (US ) in the country , all of us along our road & lane mow our varying acreages plus ditches , frontage areas , etc . at least weekly . Along w/ nice landscaping & seasonal flowers , it creates a neighborhood feel / sense of community for a rural area . 💚
@cynthiajohnston424
I'd say mowing every week gets rid of bee and butterfly friendly plants, which are essential for our pollinators.

Simply White is also an ingenious way to make your new house immediately feel like a familiar 🏡 home.
I just painted a room Benjamin Moore Atrium White. I never hear it mentioned but it's beautiful and a perfect backdrop for my folk art collection. Simply White is beautiful, too. We chose the latest Aura formulation. One coat! No primer. No two coats.
Sherwin Williams SW 7005 Pure White ❤
congrats on this next chapter!
Totally agree!
I live in the US and I want to move to Ireland!! I love your country!! 🇮🇪
He said he’s doing some green too.
Love that you won't have to deal with the rolling cart in your kitchen any more!
You don’t have to mow. The guy who mows mine also does snow removal. He’s worth every penny. I’m excited to see the changes you make.
Getting into a home in one of the most expensive and compedative housing market in North America is quite an acomplishment. Congratulations!
Yes! Paint the cabinets! They're too dark.
Painting those cupboards will help brighten that space up so much and what a great colour choice.
On behalf of all The Plant Gays, congratulations, Nick, on your new home! Wishing you endless joy and unforgettable memories in your new place.
I hope filming all those moments when you are picking paint to making changes inside the home. We need these ❤❤❤
Yes, I saved the video as I too love green!
Congratulations Nick! So happy for you and excited to see how you transform it & make it YOU! ❣️
When I was in college one of our neighbors used a couple of those type light fixtures as popcorn bowls. They found them in a closet of their rental, and cleaned them up. I now and forever call those popcorn bowl light fixtures. 😊
And, mowing is very dependent on how much water your lawn is getting. More water = more mowing.
Congratulations!
All I can do is stare at the reflection on the oven door
I thought it was somebody in the oven.
Yes.
That's what I'm here for. It didn't look like someone filming. It can't be a television screen. What is it?? Congrats on the new place, Nick.
That bothered me a lot lol. I think that may be his partner sitting behind the camera
I came here to say this. I was distracted all through the video.😂
Congratulations!! And thank you so much for making your videos. For some reason they calm me down so much when nothing else does.
A good physical security thing you can do quickly is replacing 2” screws into the front door frame lock. Makes it harder to break down the door.
Can you explain that? Sounds like something I should do.
@@SnartNik the lock mechanism where it attaches to the door frame has screws in it that usually don’t go in very deep. You can replace them with 2” screws that go into the house frame that make the door less likely to be kicked down.
@@SnartNik ua-cam.com/video/jOvjuRVZOQ4/v-deo.htmlsi=13io6lCEJtd3gGZd
@@SnartNik my bad. They say 3” screws.
This is what I did. Removed 2k sq ft of popcorn was a helluva job and I'm so glad I did it before moving in!
Yes, popcorn is awful!!!
Your comment about Arvin Olano was hysterical - all you needed to do was start the video with "No one asked, but I" GOOD LUCK
Arvin is a mess. He has talent, but for me, not worth watching. His fake is too cringe.
Raintree Green is beautiful! I can’t wait to see what you do to the new space!
I really recommend working with a landscaper to replace the lawn with low care shrubs, perennial flowers and low care trees, unless of course you like the lawn! Do whatever is best for you.
Yes! Nick way to go!! 🎉🎉
Go for the dark green! I feel darker colours are more classic and timeless
It’s gonna be so weird seeing a new background in your videos and I don’t think I’m emotionally ready for such a big change 😅😅
And yes, any kind of yard work is SUCH a chore honestly, so I suggest you look into yard alternatives, like clover lawns, stone/pebble gardens etc-something low-maintenance.
Nooooo no clover. 😢
Idea! Use an AI generated backdrop of old apt. and gradually morph into new apt. as you populate it to ease above person into 2024...as you can tell, not very tech savvy but anything's possible...
You could also add some large mirrors that reflect light around the rooms
APPARENTLY, huge congrats to Nick for getting a new house, being a grown-up "moaning lawns" apparently 😂👏
Yes. If you don't have a lot of money to spend on renovations, then paint and really good lighting is the way to go. You can completely change a room just with lighting alone. Levels of lighting and dimmable LEDs can work miracles.
Congratulations on your new home. New style potential...yea! Can't wait to see what you do with it. I absolutely love your designing style.
But l think in time you will make your new house cosy and welcoming.
I hope sweet Sophie will love her new house and that the two of you will feel safe and happy together in your new 🪹nest!
CONGRATULATIONS NICK & SOPHIE on your New House!!
🤗♥️☘️🐾🌈☮️🇨🇦🕊
And congrats! You are going to find ownership and the improvements very satisfying.
Congratulations Nick--I hope you'll be sharing some of your projects with us. You're gonna need tools you never even heard of . . .
Congratulations on your new purchase...very exciting. I look forward to seeing all the amazing and chic upgrades you put into it to make it your style 😁
Hi Nick. It’s gonna look great when you’re done.
I’m glad you’re sitting in the dog bed and not sleeping in it.
Fab! Your camera person is in the reflection on the oven door 😂
haha Eden with the sound check!
I can only see this, lol. We need the reveal!
So excited to see you decorate your home. Congrats 🍾
Have fun and make lots of good memories in your new home!
Hooray! We can go through the whole process with you! This is exciting. 😊 Congrats on your new abode. 👍
Forest green is one of those few greens that is flattering greens that makes everyone look nice. So lovely!
Dont forget to focus on your GARDEN rooms! You now have the space for a beautiful garden, all grass is a no no
I painted most of my 1960’s house mostly simply while - perfect for brightening up the house and as a blank canvas to add art and colour in other ways. I also just started painting my kitchen simply white and peele green.
Also used an off white micro cement on the counters
A tiny bit of advice on your yard if it is small get yourself electric cordless lawn mower so much easier to operate..... tress add value..but
Eliminate gardens, there's a lot of weeding and uptake..... Go for a huge patio with a couple pots that have flowers... Much easier❤
That sounds great. I'm so excited for Nick

Congratulations! Beautiful and nice dog bed!😂
Replace your lawn with clover and you won’t need to mow as much. It’s much better for the planet too. 😎 Congratulations on your new home!!!
🤣🤣🤣 *“NOT BOOB LIGHTS, BUT BOOB LIKE” IM GONNA START USING THAT ON A DAILY BASIS*

Nick, we’re on the same page! I’ve been living in a condo since 2013 and I have built my home from the ground up and is now on its finishing touches. My bedroom is moody green and kitchen cabinets are in army green. 🥰 congrats on your 600k milestone too! 😃🎉
“UNWELCOME” front door signs are probably cranking up production in anticipation of a new cold monstrosity home build.
“New cold monstrosity home build” ? What’s that?
Again Congratulations 🎊 🎉🏠
Life sometimes is full of surprises 🎉😊😊
NICK!!!! Congratulations!! I CANNOT WAIT to see what you do with the place. SOOOOO exciting!!
(They do rather clash with the rest of the space.)
Having a grey personal aesthetic as you do, will mean your existing furnishings will work with ease with white walls. Basically - I think we're all about to learn all there is to know about creative lighting and what is possible to achieve. This should be interesting and fun!
NICK ON A TUESDAY!!!NICK ON A TUESDAY!!!NICK ON A TUESDAY!!!!! (Runs in circles yapping and maybe piddling a little.)
Okay, now that I got that over with…honestly, Nick, seeing someone with your skills tackle a home that’s maybe more like what most people are dealing with is really helpful?
I know you’ve been through it in the last year and uprooting yourself like this is a huge undertaking. I hope you’re doing well!
