One story I share with others (especially teens) is my mistake of buying an expensive wardrobe (brand names and everything). I spent about $900 in 1999 (easily two months housing payments at the time). Yes, the clothes were nice and well made, but I did not make more friends. I did not get a raise at work. My friends at the time did not like me any more or any less. I was not happier (I would have been happier with the money invested...)
This was the other side to the "money dance" - not earning it, but spending it on stuff that did not make me happy or improve my life in any way.

Sounds like that expensive wardrobe taught you the same thing that the axe and basketball taught me, only with a lot less pain.

Good story. Of course if you used the ax as a knife, you could have sliced through the ball with no problem.
