Join us to pay tribute to a local kid who, as a teenager, would become the most lethal sniper in the history of the US Marine Corps, Charles "Chuck" Mawhinney.
Thanks for sharing Mark. So many have given so much of themselves to the protection of others. Always liked this quote, "All that is needed for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing". Chuck was one of those that chose to act. Rest In Piece Chuck, a good man.
I just heard of his passing, indeed a treasure in his life. I've been blessed and honored to know men like him. Protecting others, their country, and the Constitution was their goal. SALUTE, and God bless them all.
When my Vietnam veteran workmate mentor got killed in a workplace accident, real health and safety became a priority. It was very personal for me. You never know who you save.
Thank You Mark for posting this. Our service Men and Women are and should be always in our prayers. God Bless them all. Our Country should never forget what these brave people did for us. It Is Called...FREEDOM. ❤❤❤❤
U.S. Army Vietnam vet here, Thanks for the tribute Mark, my Dad flew 53 missions during WWll in a B-26 Marauder over N. Africa, Sicily, Italy etc. We do indeed sleep safe because of those "Hard men". RIP Chuck.
God bless those who have the spirit of defense of the innocent. These Men and Women we all owe a great deal of gratitude to. Thank a veteran when you get a chance.
I hadn't heard that Chuck had passed... "If the Army and the Navy ever look on Heaven's scenes, they will find the streets are guarded by United States Marines" Semper Fi Chuck
When i lived in Humboldt County,i got to shoot in a fun match at qtr mile at qt oil jugs filled w water...aka the can clobber classic. One of the shooters there was Lt Bill Nellist of the Alamo Scouts,he won the match hitting ten straight with his .308,
Great video, I had no idea he grew up in your area. I saw the interview about the event at the river he gave . I could tell by watching that interview there was something very special about chuck. Rest in peace chuck. God bless.
Mark, thank you for sharing this awesome tribute to Charles "Chuck" Mawhinney. I heard about him many years ago, don't ask me where. It may have come from my daughter's Ex who was also a Marine Scout Sniper during the war in Somalia and the Gulf Wars. I used to have a pretty good size library of the Civil War, through the wars in the Sandbox. I may have read about Mr. Mawhinney in one of those books. My 79 year old Gray Matter isn't too sharp these days. Again, I want to thank you Mark for shining some light on this great Hero. To all who served, in every conflict, I salute you and thank you for your service also. May God's Blessings be upon you and your family.
I’ve got Carlos hathcock’s book. Marine Sniper One Shot One kill. I’ve also got the sniper Training manual. Those guys were savings 100,000’s of lives.
Although I didn't personally know Chuck I felt kinship with him as a former marine. I have been in a meloncholy mood since hearing of his passing. A real american hero. Semper Fi Chuck.
I sure would have liked to have met him. I've heard so much about him from friends who grew up with him. I'll send you his book when I'm done reading it if you'd like.
Don't know that it matters much, maybe coincidence, but I've just been putting the finishing touches on a "tribut" 1941 USMC 1903 "Snipers". Been collecting 03s and A3s for 20+ years, stumbled across an original 03A4 that I could afford a few years back, but Unertl's and National Match A1s with Corps provenance cost more than my last pickup, so... I appreciate all those who provided overwatch while I worked, God speed, and go easy, Bro.
A close friend of our family, a local cowboy and saddlemaker, was a Marine Corps countersniper in the Pacific in WW2. I only heard a few stories from his wife after he passed away. I believe he carried one of those 03's.
Semper Fi Chuck... In todays PC society, there are some who would view his being unapologetic as being cold, but there was no reason for him to apologize. He did what he was trained to do with purpose and conviction.
American GREATNESS ... my son came home unscathed from his time as a Marine in Anbar not doubt bcs Chris Kyle etc kept up the tradition of CM and the Surge had worked by late 2007
USMC Commandant Charles Krulak repeatedly emphasized the importance of the “Strategic Corporal”, stressing the point that the entire leadership and logistical hierarchy is there to set up the first level of leadership on the battlefield for victory. True enough! In addition I would humbly submit that a proficient scout sniper is THE Strategic, Operational AND Tactical Individual Marine! S/F RIP Chuck!
As a former military man, what a great video. The Marines trained some really good snipers. God bless Charles "Chuck" Mawhinney. Thanks again Mark
Rest in Peace, Marine. Thank you for your service.
Chas
Semper Fi, Marine.

If anyone wants to see his rifle, it’s at the Museum of the Marine Corps at Quantico Va.

I find it interesting that most of the gun forums I frequent have little to nothing to say about these early snipers and their weapons.
Rest in Peace, fellow Vietnam veteran.
A little late, but , Welcome home.
