    2:35 Intro
    7:26 Tunnel Vision practicing
    10:56 Mystery chord
    15:13 Verse
    17:47 Pre-chorus
    20:13 Chorus
    23:31 Bridge
    25:27 Outro
    This version is taken from the following audio performance of this bootleg from Eddie's Attic: • UNRELEASED!!! John May...
    Another great example of Mayer's acoustic playing and chord selection during this time period in the late 90's. It was never formally released.
    This is a bit looser then other lessons, I don't go measure by measure but instead concentrate on "the parts". You'll need to be familiar with the tune and consult the tab for what you'll hear in the reference version.

    Sorry there's been such a delay. I have 3 projects on the go and they have been competing for time ;-) I'll probably start up a ZARTIMUS2 channel to talk about those and not clutter up this channel with some non-guitar stuff.

      Zartimus I also requested this song a few years ago. Thank you so much for making a tab,I had a VERY hard time figuring out his position choices for this song,and the covers I found were unhelpful in that they were largely improvised.

      Zartimus Hello, I was wondering if you would be able to do a tutorial on the 'Brokenhearted' performance by Eric Clapton and John Mayer on CNN live and especially on John Mayer's acoustic solo...Would greatly appreciate it :) Thank you for the fabulous tutorials as always

    Wow, thank you so much, again again again Zartimus. You've taught me so many of my favorite Mayer songs, and the techniques behind them. He is my icon, and the fact that you make your experiences so readily available is just a huge help.
    I hope you keep doing these for years to come. You have my deepest gratitude for this. Truly.
    The only Mayer lessons that are actually worth anything come from this channel. So thank you man.
    I've got some real love for you, even though i don't know you, so that's gotta count for something! :)

    I caught myself singing this will all make perfect sense someday at work yesterday. As a person who understands the difficulty of tabbing and taking everyone's requests I will with a reasonable mind leave this will all make perfect sense some day in the plain of discussion.
    John posted a recent instagram video with some interesting comments on his playing style particularly the time keeping finger slap and how to many kids overdue it nowadays but the way you say to do it wouldn't make one fall under that category. He also shows how to play stop this train shows the stretch! You teach it better lol. The Instagram video was posted on the 19th of this month if your curious. And lastly he makes a solid comment on tabs but he needs to see your videos and tabs. Anyway the video was posted on the 19th of November under Instagram John Mayer videos on youtube

    • @Zartimus
      @Zartimus  6 років тому

      I saw that. Someone sent it to me with the title "John is dissing you man!!!!" when he said that all the tabs on the net were wrong. ;-) (i feel the same way sometimes). True, my slap is not a Mayer slap, it is a Don Ross, Andy Mckee Antoine Dufour slap.
      I will re-watch that. I love his periscope/instagram vids.

    I slightly know the pain of trying to tab out John Mayer songs. I watched his Instagram performance of still feel like your man. I don't have slow down software unfortunately. the tricky part was determining some of the chorus chords and riff runs in between the a7sus4 and the other chord he plays in the verse and chorus. It seems like johns too good for slap thumb and muted pop these days I didn't hear it being used on any of the new album songs oh well I'll be using it on some of my own songs lol.

    For the Fmaj79 and C#maj79, I always believed he played the root note with his thumb.
    Great analysis of the song Zartimus! But just out of curiosity I had to question it!
    Opinions?

    • @Zartimus
      @Zartimus  7 років тому +1

      I'd have to go back and analyze that to see which one you are talking about. Since there is no video of him playing it we don't know for sure but based on his fingering in others songs like Neon he does flip between 1st finger and thumb. I believe it's how we first learn chords that makes us go for a particular fingering and he may be "going back home" on that chord shape to the original way he learned it. Other times when he is more concerned with keeping a bass line going you go thumb first and then arrange your other fingers accordingly around what the thumb is doing. There are some bits in the Neon intros where he is alternating 1st finger and thumb fretting on the low E (C in Neon) and it's all right there on the video. I'll mention it in my next tutorial 9NEON from on my own at the Nokia theatre).

    Wondered if you could help to recommend a good amp and guitar for some of the John Mayer tones whilst on a budget but still within a decent price range? Preferably something good for home use without a lot of wattage. I can imagine you get asked this question a lot but help would be much appreciated:)

    • @Zartimus
      @Zartimus  7 років тому

      I'm not the best to make a recommendation for combo amps or heads and cabinets. I use an AXE FX amp modeler into Tech 21 Powered speakers with a tweeter mod that blows the budget all to hell. For practice amps I really like the Line6 Spider 4, 15 watt models though. Great little practice amp.

If you're open to requests of songs at any point in time I think this one would be a great candidate from his earlier work. ua-cam.com/video/yzAtXSwxyPM/v-deo.html He does some really cool tricks in his solos and the chords seem simple enough for those who might not be able to attempt his solos yet.
