This is certainly a great starting point for learning finger drumming. You kept it simple enough for a first instruction that it should be well within the reach of most yet varied enough it should help with keeping interest in the material. Plus it gives the added benefit of having three useful beats instead of just one which definitely increases the payoff for anyone investing time in it. Well done.
Really awesome video, that helped me soo much! I just started for fun beat making and this the first finger drumming tutorial that I found, what was actually helpful
Thanks for this. Actually a great starting point. I already know that pattern 2 is going to be the trickiest one for me. I’m a lazy keys player, and have never got my left hand working properly. And that is exactly what the second pattern tests. Well, maybe time to break some bad habits!
Glad I can help. I suspect number two is going to be the trickiest one for most people, because it involves that independent bass drum note. Just got to keep practicing!
Thank you this is the first tutorial I’ve ever watched on finger drumming… I’ve no idea why you’d think we’d be intermediate drummers … however as I’m used to counting beats for piano and guitar this shouldn’t be too difficult - thank you
I should have elaborated on that. Basically I meant I was skipping over the extremely basic beginning acoustic drummer things, such as how to play the bass drum and the hi-hat at the same time haha. It's a lot easier when it's just two buttons :) thanks for watching!
@@FreeBeat u r rly welcome 😎 i have only volcas, but i enjoy ur happy, friendly explaining hands with a nice minded person behind 😊 hope u understand, its elo english from an old fart from germoney 😂😂😂 greetings
Holyshit it worked it actually fucking worked dude THANK YOU so much for putting this up I've been making my music since my early teen years with a Yamaha PSR 11 and a Karioke machine recording section at a time and could never seperate my left hand from my right when it came to drums. Thank you again now back to the lab for now to practice.
Glad I could help you out! With these patterns you can start to add different elements in as you become more comfortable with them as well. Happy finger drumming :)
Great Vid, I think you've got another great tutorial niche that not everyone is good at, this is your area of expertise... I suck at finger drumming but this gives me some tools and confidence to not suck at this...Lol thanks!
I know it would make sense that my finger chops should be killer but it is a whole different thing than playing guitar. I still have the overdub option of punching in each part of the drum kit one at a time. I’m just jealous of your finger drum chops. Lol
Hey! Finally Free Beat did it! :D Thank you very much! Absolutely helpful!! Please continue these lessons! What can you say about the fact, that pattern No. 3 is much easier for me as pattern No. 2? Something like skateboarding regular and goofy?
The skateboarding analogy is actually a pretty good one. When you're first starting out, one hand is going to be much rhythmically stronger than the other. Focus on developing your other hand (skating switch, if you will) and you'll find that pattern too will get easier. Slow it way down and work on that double bass drum hit, with focus on the second independent hit. Don't get discouraged and keep practicing :)
@@FreeBeat Thanks a lot for your detailed answer! I am looking forward to the time, when it works easy for me. But even the practicing will be fun, because the finger drumming inspires me a lot.
Hello Mr Free Beat. Again,i come to bother you because of the Zoom Recorder. As I've been saying (to exhaustion, sorry) in all of your videos,I'm probably gonna get a Zoom H1N,that has aux in. I'm planing to record my MPC sessions directly to the Zoom via Aux out from the MPC or the monitors (still deciding). Is it possible to disable the mics from the zoom(s) and record only (from) the MPC? Like with no other ambient sound? I have 2 kids and my "studio" is in the living room, where the TV is :D Thanks again!
Yes, you have to arm the channels before recording. The zoom will also export all the channels as different audio files, so if you accidentally record something you didn't want to you can just omit that file from your final recording.
@@FreeBeat ahhhh, that's the key, i'll have to check out something like that. first starting out i thought i would do almost everything in a DAW, including recording, but it turns out i just don't like it. thanks for always answering my questions!
Thank you for the video. If you like constructive criticisms, please keep on reading my comment. There was a 2-minute talking before you play the first beat. When I finally started skipping, I heard a beat that was totally useless for me. But the point is that you could make a tiny demonstration of all the 3 beats before you even start talking. This is certainly more practical, helpful and appreciated. But now, I have already wasted too much time to keep on skipping for the next beat. UA-cam is full of tutorials and your channel didn't gain my interest. See you some other day maybe.
Isnt the beauty of a sampler being able to make one beat then make another and add them together that way you dont have to do so much at the same time it seems like it would be easier that way.

This was very helpful! Thanks for being so responsive to viewer requests! That 2nd one vexed me so I have to practice that one a lot.

When you record stuff, what recording setup do you use? Do record live drums and synth stuff with the same gear?
All of my audio goes into the zoom livetrak L-12

Yup and you can work that way on the MPC if you want, but this is a video about finger drumming :)
You lost me at one. 🤣
You've got it, just keep practicing!
I feel like all these videos move too fast and I can't keep up
Oi! Talking hands.
you move your hands way too much
I mean it is a finger drumming tutorial haha.
I couldn't watch more than 10 seconds of this video cuz the constant hand motion while talking.
