X Pro Session Drummer’s Starters Guide to FINGER DRUMMING
Very excited to drop my very first finger drumming tutorial video! I've been a session drummer and taught private drum lessons for over 10 years. This video is essentially my "first lesson" outline that I gave to my beginner drum students; a crystal clear method on how to get started.
Shoutout to (at) alliebrowniest (Instagram) for the animation!

Great video! I would love to see intermediate and advanced lessons another time. Thanks for the good stuff :)
Def will be headed in that direction! Cheers
@@LiamKillen well lets get to it! 😅
cheers for this. So rare to find vids that break down beat structure.
It’s necessary! 🍻
@@LiamKillen it really is two sides of the same coin. The technical skill and the comprehension of music theory together. Man, I have neither 😅
Love it, just got a Push 2 and my new knowledge of my finger drumming skills have left me...humbled, to say the least
This will help ya for sure
Thanks Edgar! 🤝
I was naively expecting a transition somewhere in this finger drumming video where a Tech Deck grinds across the MPC. Please consider it for the next lesson.
I wish i could tech deck that’s a pretty great idea though
Stoked to see what else you do with the ONE. I also liked your single .
Thanks so much! ❤️
Yeah i’ve got some tricks up my sleeve for sure
I second that, having just got mine im super excited to see what other MPC One content you’ll come up with!!
It’s such an amazing machine!
Salute keen to get involved muxh love from brutal music fam
Thanks for watching :-)
Liam, I'd love it if you could extend these finger-drumming lessons into some intermediate and advanced techniques and patterns. There are a fair number of "intro" tutorial vids to finger-drumming (albeit not as good as yours) on YT, but much less material for intermediate and above. You're well-positioned as an excellent tutor with real drumming background (a huge asset to programming/finger-drumming rhythms).
I'm curious where you'd go next, what you'd hit along the way. Feel & swing? Poly-metric beats? time-signatures beyond simple common time? Classic foundational beats for different musical styles/genres? I'd love help simply with more fills, honestly, since those feel hard (to me) to figure out and then figure in to finger-drumming.
thanks, appreciate your generosity!
Something I’ll def consider! Thx for this!
Bro perfect timing I’m about to buy the mpc
That’s exciting!
which one?
Im getting the live 2 so I can do live sets
so excited
Ssssiiiiccckkkk
please do a jungle beat finger drumming tutorial❤
Ooohhhhh shit- something to consider for sure.
You can never have too many shabba doos in your drum patterns😁 also, shabba doo should totally be a track title🤣
Gimme ALL the shabadoos lol
@LiamKillen so when all this stuff is totally new to me... could u throw me a bone as to how it works. i would be happy to buy beats and the akai mpc one :-) allready bought a Novation Circuit but cant get it to work, soooooo frustrating
I would say keep watching UA-cam videos to learn - start with the stock sounds to begin with !
Also, people in my Discord might be able to answer some of your questions as well :-)
I got a feeling the MPC gang is going to blow your channel up if you keep posting great drum tutorials like this. Really good stuff. It would be great if you could show some sort of notation or even just take sec to slow down some of the more complex patterns, as it’s a little hard at points to tell what beats each hit of the “shabadoos” is landing on.
Got it- thanks for the love!
Just got an MPC One, but finding finger drumming impossible, because the pads are so stiff. keep missing notes as I have to hit them SO HARD to get a sound.
Yeah you gotta slap those things - I eel like the Maschine ones are a little more sensitive. Come vent about it over on my Discord though lol: discord.gg/xj8J2xJuBP
Noticed you're not a Maschine user. Is the MPC One better for your needs and/or finger drumming?
I don’t know much about maschine but MPC gives me everything I need!
sha-ba-DU!
The best drum full ever!
I struggled with the software and gave up. Is it really worth giving the MPC another chance? Right now I’m using the IPad Pro with Beatmaker 3.
Whatever suits your workflow! Personally i love the mpc one
@@LiamKillen I love the idea of it. The problem is I’m not use to working on clips. That throws me off.
Yeah it’s an adjustment for sure
👏👏
Hey thanks Omni!
@@LiamKillen excellent channel
Appreciate that 🙂
This was the most difficult 12 min tutorial ever... But after a few times it kinda flows naturally...
I hope that it helps!!
#shabadoo
😏
hmm, not liking this style. I too played drums but believe you need to 1 separate the fingers and mirror the playing style.
