Hi from New Zealand,I watched your first video of the rescue of the bus from the forest and the work put into getting the bus prepared for the trip to Wilsonville for the Stafford Baptist reunion it was great the the church helped out with some of the preparations for you to get the bus to Stafford especially enjoyed seeing the beautiful countryside along the way to Wilsonville .
@nshvle Awesome! If you run into my very good friends Misty and Chris Ruske at the Brewers Collective in the Riverside Market, tell them I said Hello! Chris will possibly be out surfing...lol! Cheers!
I'll definitely look them up next time I'm in there. I love the music in your videos especially at the car shows. We have a large contigent of American car enthusiasts here in NZ. the shows are very popular.I remember during the late 70s early 80s there were alot of 50s,60s Chevy Belairs and impalas around when they introduced unleaded fuel here in the early 80s alot of them disappeared pretty quick alot into sheds to be preserved and a lot to the wreckers as the unleaded fuel soon buggered the engines as people failed to use the additive to compensate for the leaded fuel

I didn’t have any doubts about you getting her (yes I called her a girl too) up and moving. In this show on the gas tank though, my favorite part wasn’t when it cleaned up… nope it was the way you tossed the last three vinegar jugs and gave the look towards us 😂 Anyway thank you so much I just Love your shows!!❤
Hey Thanks! I really appreciate that! I will be back making videos here really soon. I been working on videos on my second channel recently. Hey take care!
Have you thought about a 2 speed rear end. That would cut down on engine noise and bring the gas mileage up a bit. I just found your channel and l really do like what you do. Keep up the great content.
Back in my day, the way we cleaned any fuel Tank was we would get Pea gravel, and Hot Borax Powder and fill them about a quarter full, and then we made a shaker frame with a heavy mash screen and put the Tank in it and the Frame had a Pittman arm attached to a Flywheel style Pully on a half horse Electric motor and it would vibrate the tank removing all the Rust and revealing any Leaks. Then we would re solder the cracks and leaks . Pour all the gravel out and put a/2 Cup of Hot Sal's Soda with a couple really Hot water and flus the tank and it would look like a Brand New Tank.
Hi again for the outside i used a grinder (lightly) to wire brush surface area . Then paint os of tank with 2 light coats of por 15 then spray with gloss is. Os paint.good luck
On a replacement fuel tank, Dodge uses plastic for their fuel tanks. A pick up uses a 35 gallon tank on the 1500. Not sure on the bigger pick ups or the diesel engines. You might find a tank in a salvage yard. With a bit of work you can probably get one up under that old bus. A very cool old bus but the way. Vinegar works well but isn't as fast as some other products. More a time vs cost thing on that. The vinegar you drain out can be filtered and reused. With the tank up on a set of saw horses you can use the drain plug to drain the vinegar through a coffee or paint filter out even an old sock. Then just pour it back in fo the next go around.
Put one bottle of Mystery oil and diesel no more than a gallon and a half then fill with real gas rater than any ethanol gas for the first tank !! try it you will like it !!!
Sir, thank you for sharing your expertise. I clean my old gas tank by filling with ten gallons of white venigar and packet of baking soda. Fill up all the way helps to clean unreached corners and partisions. I wait a week. Then I power wash it, drying rinse it by diesel. It came out like shing silver shing silver.
I think it was cheaper to have a new one made or you could also cut away one side of the tank and weld it back on later, that would have been easier to clean up and time saving.
I am really surprised how well that tank cleaned up. I really thought that it was beyond hope. It's amazing how well the vinegar ate up all that rust. I've used it to unstick engine's before but you learned this ol' fart something and i ain't kidding. Still might wanna carry a few of those plastic gas filters with y'all. ✌️
@@CountryBoyGasGarage I wonder if enough fuel detergent and multiple inline filters could have allowed you to avoid removing the tank and disposing of all that fuel? Did you have detergent in the fuel when it was gumming the carburetor through the filter? how much detergent? and how many filters? I have heard that gummy fuel can gum intake valves as well as carburetors, at greater risk, but I still wonder if, say, $50 worth of detergent could have overcome all that.
@@CountryBoyGasGarage Normally it would be worthwhile to drop the tank just to clean out all that rat nest stuff, but I have an alternative for that too, firstly, a pressure washer if you have one, but then, at a self serve car wash with a pressure washer, using the wax option on the underside, including all over the outside of that gas tank.
@@CountryBoyGasGarage Well, fuel detergent and spray wax wouldn't have fixed your sender unit, and all that rust might have clogged your pickup tube too, so it looks like there were no shortcuts on that. Kudos.
This is the same Bus I seen about a year ago. I found an old 1949 Studebaker Bus converted into a Motor Home and then parked over fifty years. Use citrus soak . 160 to 180 degree F . Put 2 pounds of powder 5 gallons water in the tank and fuel lines . Slosh the mix around then rinse with water then blow dry . This works when nothing else will . Looks like a mirror inside . . Used this for 30 yrs . Citrus soak was developed for oil spills but works for many things

That's rilly bad to bad you didn't have sheets of aluminum and a welder for aluminum you cud make a tank by coppicing the old tank. Wow I did not think it would get that clean now all you can do is hope it don't lick
That 20 gallons of fresh gas probably did a decent job of cleaning sloshing around on the church reunion trip
Totally...lol
That tank was so nasty inside. It cleaned up well.good job. Cheers Stew.
Hey Thanks! I'm glad I get to use the original tank still! Cheers!
Yeah using the original tank is the way to go if it can be saved. It's worth the effort you put into saving it. Once again well done.
That's the creepiest gas tank I've ever seen.
Well done, Now it's a cool rig.
Totally! Hey Thanks!
Tank turned out simply amazing! NO WAY, (I thought) was that tank still usable!
I'm still blown away.

thats awsome this woul make a killer schoolie camper
Thanks! I been thinking about doing a conversion!
Wash tank out with acetone and it remove all the varnish and any water that may be in there. It will be good as new unless it is rusted through.😊

Great job on cleaning that tank. They don’t make tanks like that anymore. They were better back then then today

On that old engine you might want to add a little lead additive so the exhaust valves can stay lubed.

Great job on the gas tank refurbishment, surprised that it survived the cleaning without 100 pin holes, perseverance payed off.
another idea is to fill the tank with water, take a propane torch and remove the cap off the dummy filler neck for more access
I should have..
A couple of rods in the vinegar with 12v to it woulda helped alot. Or if you are a good welder you coulda cut a flap cleaned it n re welded
I was curious about the electrolysis
@@CountryBoyGasGarage it works very well. Leave it for a day and the rust falls off with a wire brush

I would cut square access plates at both top ends of the tank clean inside then weld the plates back on I had to do that on a 67 Dodge D300 it worked

I had thought you'd already taken care of this old gas tank..😮
No all I did before was drain and refill it but that definitely didn't work. So I had installed an old fuel cell in the back as a temporary solution
Great job on the tank. Take care of your back. Love the bus.
Thank You Paul!
Hi Jason so glad that tank cleaned up! Just keep up the great video's! God Bless y'all!
Thank You Loren! God Bless!
Love that old bus. Really cool looking. Happy to see you got it looking so good and running nice
Thank You!
That is the best I've ever seen a tank clean up from using vinegar....
I was super impressed!
You could have painted the exterior with rust converter.
It wasn't really rusty on the outside.
The bus is back! love it. Cheers
Hey Thanks!
How good are you at welding? Cut the bottom off and clean it out and reweld it.
Not that good but next time for sure!

That's rilly bad to bad you didn't have sheets of aluminum and a welder for aluminum you cud make a tank by coppicing the old tank. Wow I did not think it would get that clean now all you can do is hope it don't lick
That tank is toast. Looks too far gone. A new tank is worth the investment !!
Great Job Jason !
Hey Thanks Nick!
