Nah that was the actual changlings (or queen changling?) later it’ “revealed” that Twilight was right and they have to fight off the changlings and I think later (like seasons later? Or maybe it happened in a movie) the changlings become good or at least I know one does which sort of makes them all become good (I think that’s what happens I haven’t watched the show in a while)

True, but you underestimate the power of plot. We could just say that the spell made him think that was Cadence. So he wouldn’t notice anything or pay attention to it. So that means he wouldn’t be at to tell them apart if he’s under a spell that won’t allow him to. This sentence sounds like it needs clarification.

I was going to say that the spell may not have been cast on him (at least directly) after Chrysalis replaced Cadence, since the barrier would not have been up yet, and Chrysalis' plan was to pass the spells as healing the migraines caused by the protection spell. But we don't really know when Chrysalis replaced Cadence, so I don't know if that point is valid.
