You're so brave for not having a crying sobbing breakdown at some point, because that genuinely sounds like my worst nightmares made live. Being irritable and overstimulated was MORE than understandable
London traffic is horrific. For those that aren't aware most roads in the UK, specifically London, are purposefully mapped out to preserve old architecture and sites. Meaning they are often narrower than they could be and cannot sustain the amount of modern traffic. I have been stuck trying to get out of London during rush hour on a coach with a crying baby before. Took 3 hours just to get out and another 3 to get back to Bristol. PJ you are a strong man. I genuinely couldn't have handled this
this video came at the perfect time to send to people when they ask "why don't you want to learn how to drive" 😂 (but seriously so glad you got to a hotel and could just sleep)
@@alicenham I almost have my license, but in Sweden, and from what I've seen I cannot imagine the struggle of driving in the uk😭 this on top of that?? Madness
We desperately need more river crossings in East London. When the Blackwall tunnel shuts we get all the traffic at the Woolwich ferry instead and there's nowhere near enough space for the ridiculous amount of cars that need to cross. It causes a FULL DAY gridlock in the entire area by the ferry (even worse if only 1 ferry is in operation) which means no local buses are able to pass through. It's so frustrating for locals who need to get to places. I'm really hoping the new Silvertown tunnel will help whenever it eventually comes.
As a frequent blackwall tunnel user the youtube algorithm really got it right with this suggestion, this tunnel and the construction works that have been going on for a million years are the bane of my life when it comes to going south of the river to visit family
ya know what, I'm fine with it now. after all, she didn't know what disaster i'd had. and for all I know, maybe everybody asks her about that tap and i was the last straw haha
The Blackwall Tunnel has caused me so many horrific journeys through it closing randomly and there being no major announcement/google maps not knowing until it’s too late 🥲 I also broke down IN THE TUNNEL once - if you asked me, it’s cursed a tunnel
Literally me last month trying to find my way out of downtown Charleston, South Carolina while half the streets were flooded out from a thunderstorm 😭 Except add in the terror of almost getting struck by lightning because it literally did strike a building right next to our parking garage when we were walking back to the car. If we had been walking just a tiny bit faster, we would have been hit by lightning or by the bricks that fell off the building
American here. 86 IS pretty hot. I mean it's towards the bottom half of hot, but it's definitely hot. We start limiting how long the kids play outside at school at that temp. And if there's added humidity we keep them in completely. Fun fact i just found out the region i live in gets hotter in August because of corn! Corn sweating to be specific. 😶
the GASP i let out at it taking 2 HOURS to go that short a distance...and there's still over half an hour of this video to go! 😬 i have the shortest fuse for sitting in traffic, my condolences ugh
i feel you, i got stuck on 1-5 here in oregon going through a mountain pass and like ten semis crashed within 5 miles. traffic was stopped for about 8 hours while highway patrol cleaned up. I had to sit overnight in my car, in like 20 degree weather (-5 degrees celcius), and was completely alone, almost completely out of service, and barely slept. at like 4 or 5 in the morning highway patrol started getting traffic moving again (they had to knock on people's hoods to get them to wake up), and then i drove like 4 more hours to portland in insane ice conditions. i passed at least ten more jacknifed semis on the way. that was the first time in my life i called 911 :) don't drive long distance at night in the winter, kids!
I 100% sympathise as something very similar happened to me about 8 years ago when we drove to Wembley. I have also had the exact same tap experience and also got told off when I didn't understand the instructions. So glad it's all over for you both now
Oh man, my condolences! I don't drive, but I have been stuck in London when public transport was down before and the whole place just goes insane. Genuinely pretty scary at times, especially if you're stuck overnight! the feeling of being home safe and comfortable afterwards can't be beat, makes you appreciate what you have. Happens too often for my liking too, there's always SOMETHING that goes wrong with a journey in London 😭
Wow that’s so dangerous for people to stuck in the heat for hours, many presumably not able to reach food/water, emergency responders can’t go anywhere…
im so sorry you guys had to deal with that 😭 so glad your friends were able to get you a hotel to freshen up and recharge. also you handled the hotel lady better than me i would have broken down sobbing if someone scolded me after a day like that!
watching this while stuck at calais ferry port waiting in my car 3 hours and counting to hopefully get on a ferry. stuckception. all of a sudden my ferry delay doesn't sound as bad, that sounds like a hell of day, damn.
Ugh I live not too far from Greenwich and have to drive to visit my parents in Essex quite a lot and let me tell you, if one of the Rotherhithe or Blackwall tunnel is closed, forget about it. It's usually an hours drive, but has been a 3 hour one before - I feel your pain!
Okay wow what a story. My friends and I were just talking about that "worlds longest traffic jam" in china that lasted for like 12 days and wondering how is that possible. So I appreciate you sharing your story and giving some insight into how a traffic so terribly jammed is possible, Though I am sorry for the massive headache of it all, it is quite a story!
I think getting stuck in bad gridlock is a right of passage especially for anyone that lives in or close to a large city. I commend you for not absolutely losing it because I was stuck for 2 hours once in a nicely airconed car and I was filled with rage by the end of it haha. It didn't help that I had tried to go into the city center for lunch and was already hungry at the start of the trip. I have heard of such bag grid lock in a major city in China that took weeks to clear up because it took so long that thousands of people abandoned their cars. Your ordeal would've driven me mad, I can't imagine how I'd feel in grid lock that severe.
That was such a wild ride!! Glad you got through it and that everyone was okay! Surprised that London of all places didn't have one of those electric vehicle blanket thingies - I can't imagine what having a fire that hot in a freaking tunnel did to the infrastructure! 😅
As a Texan, I’d honestly say it’s fair to call 30°C (86°F) hot when you’re not used to it. The same way 60°F is cold to me when I’m not used to it after coming out of a pretty frequently 100°F summer. (Not that anyone needs my stamp of approval but here it is).
oh god last wednesday was AWFUL. it took me 1 hour 25 minutes to get home after collecting my 11 month old from the childminders, the same journey took me 15 minutes earlier that morning! the blackwall tunnel is great when it works, but if that’s blocked, and the dartford tunnel / bridge is too, then essentially everywhere in a 20 mile radius is screwed.
Got stuck in barely moving traffic on the M25 a few weeks ago which added 3 hrs to the original 2 hrs AND with no air con on a hot day but this is definitely worse rip. It's so stressful bc everyone is trying to cut in front, people are getting mad, others aren't paying attention at all to the road
Blackwall Tunnel ALWAYS has something going on... I have distinct memories of my dad getting so frustrated everytime we would drive through he eventually just stopped going and just took the time out to avoid it! 😅
We went to visit my grandma for a holiday once and because of the traffic jam on a highway usual 6 hour drive turned into 15 hours. My whole family was invested into PJ's story and none of them even speak English.
I had something similar happen on a winter drive in the US where 80 was about on the only viable option. Thankfully, my smart travel companion suggested cutting our losses early, so we nabbed a hotel room. WiFi and an indoor pool while road crews sorted it.
a classic example of a big city management failing to communicate. oh and also a good example of why cars should be banned from inner cities in my opinion...
on my way home after visiting my parents I missed a car accident by a few minutes and I was stuck for about an hour and I thought THAT was bad. also fuck that lady with the tea but tbh I was so scared you were about to badly burn yourself bc that woulda sent me over the edge
Hey Mr. Liguori!!! Well, she sneaks around the world from Kiev to Carolina She's a sticky-fingered filcher from Berlin down to Belize She'll take you for a ride on a slow boat to China Tell me where in the world is *PJ The Kicks videos?!* 😭 if you know you know ❤
so, how do you go on a road trip and NOT listen to a news radio channel? traffic/weather updates every 10 minutes. And, I don't live there but... where were to traffic cops to redirect? Hope Dil and Pil gave you a cash bonus!! ;-)
also been stranded in london a few times when trains go down. living in victoria station or paddington for 5 hours can genuinely go to hell. the refusal to supply replacement busses is a joke
Congrats on being one of the European(-ish?) minds that CAN comprehend 12 hour road trips! You’re an honorary American! 🫡😂 I’m so sorry you had to go thru it tho!! It sounds absolutely harrowing!! I can’t imagine doing that without the proper snacks and a weeks-worth of podcasts downloaded 😭
“Deliver the thing to london” I’m sure Dip and Pip thank you for your contributions.
They literally said in a pre show that pj and sophie made something very crafty and intricate for the show
That's so crazy London has no way of announcing a major tunnel closure
You're so brave for not having a crying sobbing breakdown at some point, because that genuinely sounds like my worst nightmares made live. Being irritable and overstimulated was MORE than understandable
My final takeaway from this is that you should always listen to Sophie if she has any suggestions.

just imagining that amount of traffic is soo anxiety inducing im so sorry yall had to go through that😭😭 hopefully never again
As an Australian with a broken AC I will 100% back you up on this one. 30°C in a car with no AC is actually hell, even just for a short trip 🥲🔥
I was thinking that same thing! Also, hi fellow Aussie ^_^
I’m here to agree.

I’ve heard SPECIFICALLY TESLAS are the ones catching fire but Hybrids are the most common out of all cars
Wow that person in the cafe at the hotel was awful :( I think anyone would feel bad after that!!

haha yeah that tunnel really sucks. i've had issues there before but never this bad

Ooooh 40 mins storytime, I'm SAT

Here in Florida if we kept kids inside at 86 with humidity, they would never go outside 😞 but maybe that would be for the best

This reminded me the scene from Good Omens season 1 where they had a fire in one of the freeway(?) and there was crazy traffic and people were stuck.

I'm so confused does Google maps not exist in London? Anytime you pass a crash/ incident with a car you report it so drivers can see
Later in the vid now, glad Google maps helped later but damn it wouldve been great if someone reported it earlier
I would have just parked the car wherever and walked 😅
Wait how was traffic moving at all for you to move up if the tunnel was closed?
I was just thinking about you Peej
