    Totally agree about the cheek line. It looks great to let it grow naturally - the higher on the cheek, the better. I despise sharp, carved and over-styled cheek and neck lines.

    Serge I appreciate your advice and perspective very much. I was clean shaven till 28 because my hair is sparse. Then the first time I let it go for 6 weeks I discovered I had enough stash and goat to pull it off. For 7 years I trimmed my mustache above my top lip and did 1.5-2" on my chin and sole patch. Everything else high and tight: sideburns, cheeks, neck.
    Finally about 4 months ago i let it all go. But, i only followed rule #1: don't cut it. In my stash/goat experience I never had a need or knew about oiling, shampoo damage, straightening/softening... so after those 4 months my checks and sideburns were a real mess. Both very sparse but also curly and out of control. Plus I was still trimming my mustache the whole time. And my upper cheeks were weak so I took some bad advise and kept that line lower too. Ah growing pains.
    Tips like yours have given me a bit of direction moving forward. For starters I'm going to double my mustache. I have a middle stash gap, which I embraced long ago and kinda like, but it always helped me justify keeping it shorter, like a van dyke. I think I can pull off a fuller mustache. About a week ago I started brushing and oiling everything hoping to lose some of the pube look on the sides. I actually trimmed my sideburns/cheeks/lower corners a bit just because of how unruly and curly they were. Looked thin and terrible being so sparsely rooted and stand-out curly.
    Luckily my neck line is good. I'm going to totally take your advise to stop so much shampoo. If I can get it all to soften and straighten with oiling and brushing then hopefully I kick this thing into 3rd gear. I even went ahead and changed up my hairstyle to really commit and embrace the new look. Thanks dude, if I can get close to where you are at I'll be happy.
    You mentioned you have about a year into that setup. This gives me hope. I'm in month 5 and have made a handful of mistakes. There's still progress to be made.

    I agree with most of your points but some points don't properly work for most of us who have a really curly beard. For example, If we let the corners grow too much, they crumble up and make us look homeless XD
    Only 2 ways to fix that issue, either adopt a short beard style at least from the sides, or properly style it using wax and hair dryer.

  • @mystercy1

    He makes a good point on delaying a trim. There is an urge to do something but more often than not its not needed. I trim when there is an imbalance or something unsymmetrical. Beards are unruly by nature and can be tamed by wax products, clipping just reduces length, so if thats what you want, clip away.

    dude, we have the same beard, I commented years ago on another video I think. We are both not super terminal or dense all around (weaker cheeks), we both have dirty blonde colours etc and with patience make it work well, its unique man. You have to work harder than me however.. in terms of maintenance. For example, you work in an office, lots of pressure from everyone and everything.. i'm a ground worker and foundation piler, I can literally do nothing and let it go, very fortunate in that sense. Good for you though man, well done. My head hair is slightly more blonde than yours, also when my beard in the sun.. it has an obvious blonde tinge in certain parts, but when i'm in the shade its very dark blonde almost brunette.. dirty/flaxseed blonde? xD seems similar to you, perhaps i'm wrong, either or/ great job dude. Stay glorious

    good video. A problem that I have (and a lot of guys do) is that my neck hairs and a good portion near the side corners grows out pointing to the sides. I literally have a natural part under my chin and a V bald spot pointing up into the parting area... and then the neck hairs that V out grow more in between the middle and the sides, so the corners go up higher that that V area. I trimmed just the V part the other day because I want more squared off on the corners, but now I see that having that V area grow would would help the empty looking spots below the cheeks & near the sides of the chin. Thanks.

    My beard growth is almost like yours with it all being great just a little thinner on the cheeks and under the lip. Lol I wish I watched your video before I just trimmed. I didn’t use a buzzer though, now entire beard is like 3/4 of an inch 😕😟 lol. Got to say it’s going to let my cheeks blend seeing as I didn’t cut them at all. I think at this point I need to just not cut it at all for like a month or two and see how it looks. After the neck starts growing it just takes over cause it’s the fastest on me and just looks odd to me lol idk man. Keep up the great videos happy to have subscribed

Thank you, great videos!

      Keep the soft hairs, with enough of them they will appear coarse. Also old hairs eventually break and fall out so the more soft and course hairs the better. Some of my cheek hairs were baby hairs but now blend in nicely with my beard. Hope that helps!

Keratin is the protein that your hair is made of, adding keratin oil will strengthen and thicken the hair. Trim the split ends, then get some oil and balm.

    • @ausmarc1
      @ausmarc1 6 років тому

      Your facial hair is dictated by the X chromosome, which is exclusively from your mother's side. Your father has nothing to do with your ability to grow a beard. If you struggle with a patchy beard (like me), look into Minoxidil.

    • @fullofmuscledownunde
      @fullofmuscledownunde 6 років тому

      Yeah I’m using it and it’s working really well. I already had a beard but it’s patchy and not full as I’d like. My mustache also doesn’t touch in the middle. Like a fairly large gap. I don’t know if minoxidil will ever give me hair as full as my father but maybe. Still feels like bullshit. I’m pretty sure my grandpa on my moms side. The the hair it self is very thick hair though. The density and color is the same. I’m thinking about dying the blonde out of it.

      Man I fell ya. My dad had a real nice beard too and I feel shafted. I too have a pretty big center gap in my stash but I've embraced it. Serge is inspiring, he's tried it, analyze it, focused and embraced. He probably would have had beardsmen tell him he couldn't pull off the whole package but he's working it. If I can get where he's at I'll be happy.
