1) Madison is shown as sick which notably he was while in office. 2) Jefferson tells Sally “ be a lamb and open this”. Sally refers to his slave with whom he is said to have had a child with. 3) isnt Daveed just a joy to watch on stage. Definitely keeps audience attention
And I'm pretty sure that the stage dancer that showed the letter to him is Daveed's wife...if that was intentional that's also a nice little touch.
@@st4rpt_603 actually - in this case - "Sally" is played by Ariana De Bose - "the bullet" the woman you are referring to had left the cast a few months before the taping of the shows.
There's no "said to", he definitely had children with Sally Hemings. They've proved it genetically.
Yeah, Jefferson wasn't 'said to' have had a child with Sally Hemings. He definitely did. And 'had a child with' is a polite way of saying what he did. It's important when talking about the real historical people (as opposed to these more fantastical characters of the play) to not delude ourselves about what they were like.
Daveed Diggs is a force of nature. As much as I can't stand Thomas Jefferson, I can't help but smile when Daveed plays him on stage because he's just so awesome.
😊 Daveed Diggs is pretty much the personification of charisma, so I understand how he grabs your attention when he is on stage. I really think that the casting for Hamilton is so good.
Notice that when Washington and Ham introduced themselves to Jefferson, Washington was singing in the melody of this son, while Hamilton used his own melody. Another subtle showing that Ham marches to his own beat.
Why I didn't notice!!
Between Jefferson and Lafayette, there's a reason Daveed won a Tony.
The next song will probably have to just be by itself.
Then definitely put “Take a break” and “Say no to this” together.
Then put “Room where it happened” by itself bc it’s one of the more popular numbers.
Yes. Four actors played one role in Act 1 and a different role in Act 2.
Lafayette / Jefferson
Hercules Mulligan / James Madison
John Laurens / Phillip Hamilton
Peggy Schuyler/ Maria Reynolds.
The first time I watched it I totally missed that Mulligan and Madison were the same person....Mulligan always sounded so explosive and Madison so smooooooooth.
@@mndm4967 i know me too!!! I was watching it with my parents and they were the ones to tell me they were the same actor after I said I found interesting they used the same person as lafayette
yes, Dayveed Diggs was just so good in this, as both Lafayette and Jefferson. He seems on a different level as in, ALL the actors are Crushing their rolls, have amazing voices and are all unbelievably talented, but Diggs is in another level as if.. as if it's effortless for him, as if he's not working as hard as the others, just having the time of his life, but still crushing HARD. Just so much personality.
Taken from another comment I think from a previous video of yours because their list was really solid imo. i think i made like one small change?
1. Cabinet Battle #1
2. Take A Break, Say No To This*
3. The Room Where It Happens, Schuyler Defeated, Cabinet Battle #2
4. Washington On Your Side, One Last Time
5. I Know Him, The Adam's Administration, We Know
6. Hurricane, The Reynold's Pamphlet, Burn*
7. Blow Us All Away, Stay Alive Reprise, It's Quiet Uptown*
8. Election of 1800, Your Obedient Servant, Best of Wives and Women
9. The World Was Wide Enough, and Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Tells Your Story*
* means it is important to do those songs together, whereas other sets are more adjustable
Also if you enjoyed the "uh.. France?" line, Daveed improved it
David won the Tony for playing this double role! Two great characters, love how hammy his Jefferson is.
more hamilton content coming more often, thats a promise! More lin manuel miranda content as well
Finally getting a chance to catch up on all of your Hamilton content!
I like the subtle things they throw in with Thomas. Like him shaking one of the extras hands(I think he was black which adds even more to this) and then immediately wipes his hand off on his shirt in disgust.
He did great things for our country, but his stance on slavery never helped anyone.
The fact that around 3:50 the slaves sing they can't believe that we are free...
It did help people, just not good people
Whats the timestamp for this I don't see it?
Jefferson: what did i miss?
Hamilton: the whole first act
Jefferson; *whispers in french accent* or did i?
Hamilton: *confused screaming*
Awesome video! Really looking forward to more. Can't wait for the back half of this act. @Jackson in your Non-stop video had a really solid breakdown of songs that go well together. Copying directly here:
1."What'd I Miss", "Cabinet Battle #1"
2."Take A Break", "Say No To This"
3."The Room Where It Happens", "Schuyler Defeated", "Cabinet Battle #2"
4."Washington On Your Side", "One Last Time"
5."I Know Him", "The Adams Administration", "We Know"
6."Hurricane", "The Reynolds Pamphlet", "Burn"
7."Blow Us All Away", "Stay Alive (Reprise)", "It's Quiet Uptown"
8."Election of 1800", "Your Obedient Servant", "Best of Wives and Best of Women"
9. "The World Was Wide Enough", "Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Tells Your Story"
If this doesn't work for time constraints, the songs within (6), (7) and (9) should *really* be kept together for grouping key plot points and emotional rollercoasters lol. The rest makes a lot of sense as written above, but is relatively flexible.
Daveed Diggs is so charismati, pure vibes
Daveed Diggs is really just so much fun to watch in this show, whether he's Lafayette or Jefferson! This is one of my favorite songs in the show.
My recommendation for compiling Act 2 videos would be:
1."Cabinet Battle #1"
Boy I haven’t watched Hamilton in awhile so thanks for taking the journey. 💕
Reminds me of prince in purple rain
I love this show it’s amaknzg going to see it in Liverpool in 25 can’t wait
Daveed Diggs is amazing!
An amazing show! Need to watch it again. Thanks.
Next, Put Cabinet Battle #1, Take a Break and Say No To This togather. They will pair well togather.
Listen to Weird Al's version of Hamilton called "The Hamilton Polka". It's a summary of the whole thing in 5 minutes.
6:00 the ‘government control’ thing was because a lot of the states (especially the more wealthy ones) wanted to continue operating as a confederation of independent states rather than a single nation. They’d tried that for a while and it didn’t work because with all the states pulling in different directions and making arbitrary decisions nothing got done. A lot of the founding fathers (especially Adams and Jefferson) also didn’t trust banks- they envisioned the US as a nation of independent small landowners so Hamilton wanting to set up a national bank and share debt between states raised their hackles. The question of states rights vs. federal control wasn’t really decisively settled until after the civil war.
cant wait for u to finish the show in 2024 :D
Love Daveed Diggs 💖🎶🇺🇸
Someone gave you a list in your comments of one of your other videos....last song from act 1. She did a superb job of how to "clump" act 2, check it out.

I watched an interview with LMM where he said he made Jefferson's song in a more jazzy style to musically make him sound more out of touch since he had been gone from the U.S. for several years and was out of touch with the current political situation.
