Historically, Margarita "Peggy" Schuyler was fairly insignificant. Basically, she got married to a rich land-owner, pumped out a bunch of kids, and died of Scarlet Fever in 1801 with little else of note to her name. She'd likely have been utterly forgotten had Lin Manuel-Miranda included her as one of the three Schuyler sisters in the play (there were actually five of them, not three, and Miranda could have just as easily chosen Cornelia or Catherine to be the "third" sister instead of Peggy).

From Burr's perspective, he sees Hamilton basically coming out of nowhere and doing what he sees as political superhero shit. He's super young, like only early 20s. He's poor as hell, has nothing, but he's charismatic. He's a good soldier, he gets in with Washington, he contributes heavily to the war effort and communication and planning. He's a talented writer. He just keeps going up and up and up, all while saying everything that's on his mind and never backing down. Whatever he wants, he just goes out and gets it.
Burr spent his whole life playing everything safe, looking for opportunities to seize, never speaking his mind because he wants to keep the door open to play the other side if he thinks it will get him a leg up. That's why he grows to resent Alexander. He sees Alexander taking the riskier path and it pays off in ways Burr could never hope to achieve by playing it safe.

@stockwellsantley6606 He's definitely sympathetic, but I think Hamilton was right on the money when he criticized Burr for being spineless and having no real beliefs. Burr is an opportunist looking for ways to succeed. Hamilton was too ambitious, but he stood for what he believed in with zeal, and I respect that a lot more compared to Burr's approach to politics.

Lin Manuel Miranda when asked about why did he do such a diverse cast said that he wanted to show how America looked today. A relationship that I wish had been a little more explored in this play is Washington and Lafayette. Lafayette was an extremely wealthy orphan from France, whose father had died fighting the British so when he heard about America's revolution, he believed in the ideals and came over immediately basically begging them to let him fight the British. He was only about 19. And it said that when he and George Washington met, it was sort of like love at first sight, but not in a homosexual way
It was like Lafayette saw this elegant, eloquent general that appeared to be everything he could've hoped for in a father. And Washington saw this incredibly smart and talented young man who was almost like everything he could've pictured in the son that HE never had. They were tight in an almost fatherly-son type relationship, that washington's home had a guest room specifically designated for Lafayette with a huge picture of him. And when Lafayette became a father, he named his first son George Washington.
Lafayette may have been just a young guy at the beginning of the war, but he was an extremely talented general and definitely we could not of won the war without him not only with his talent on the field, but also his wealthy connections in France got us a lot of aid and support.

Just a little bit about one thing you got wrong at 8:30 (Disclaimer, I'm not an historian and I got most of these facts from comments on other Hamilton videos so I might be wrong on some detail.)
The revolution is not to end slavery, it's about independence from the British Empire. Civil war between the orth and the South, which was all about ending slavery (and of course politics) happened later. Everyone here had slaves, Washington had slaves (and freed his slaves at his death), Philip Schuyler had slaves, Hamilton had slaves. Only John Laurens was an abolitionist and Hamilton I think wrote something about the opportunity to end slavery, while Washington certainly did so, but he thought ending slavery would cause a rift between the North and the South so he thought it unwise to open that rift at this point in time (in the musical, during Yorktown, he says "not yet").
I think the Hamilton in this music is presented as a little more abolitionist than he really was according to historical sources.
16:32 Washington is defending New York, the English troops are invading, and they deployed some cannons in the Battery (southern Manhattan point) to support their invasion. Hamilton's squad conquered the place back and fired them towards other English troops. The Engliish subsequently pushed the revolutionaries out of Manhattan.

It's debated by historians whether Hamilton owned slaves directly (though he was absolutely connected to plenty of slave owners). Also fun fact, his relationship with Laurens was possibly a little 💅

Hamilton wasn't Washington's second in command. He was his personal secretary, which was a very important job just like it is today for people who are very busy and carry a lot of responsibility. Washington didn't promote Hamilton to a field command because he felt Hamilton could do the most/best for the war effort by continuing to help Washington oversee everything. The two really understood each other and Hamilton actually wrote a lot of Washington's correspondence. In the scene where Washington steps down from the Presidency, the speech starts in Hamilton's voice and blends into both men speaking, and ends with Washington, because historians are not clear how much was written by Washington and how much by Hamilton.

King George III had schizophrenia and most of the decisions to attack the colonies during the American Revolution came from Parliament (basically Britain's government) so King George III would have a moment where he didn't know what was going on, then to being angry, then to being sad that he was being mean to the colonists but the colonists were actually so mean to him, which he wasn't the best king but still, lol. The Schuyler's were the richest and most prominent family in all of New York, everyone in the colonies and a lot of people from Britain knew who they were. Philip Schuyler (the Schuyler sister's father) was a General during the Revolutionary War and worked closely with George Washington, it has been said that George Washington and Alexander Hamilton went to the Schuyler's home before to discuss things about the war with General Philip Schuyler so Elizabeth had met Hamilton before the Winter's Ball, Philip Schuyler married Catherine Van Rensselaer and they had a total of 15 children, only 8 making it to adulthood including Angelica, Elizabeth, and Margarita (Peggy). The Winter of 1779-1780 the Schuyler sisters were actually staying with their aunt and uncle (their uncle was the doctor of the Continental Army) and they were invited to all of these balls which were actually called subscription balls that were held by the continental army during that treacherous winter. Angelica was the oldest out of all of the children and Elizabeth was the second born child, so when Angelica met Alexander she gave him up for Elizabeth because she was the oldest so she had to marry rich, because she needed to climb the social ladder and set an example for the rest of her siblings, that being said she married John Barker Church in 1777 who was a very wealthy English businessman who was a supplier of the Continental Army. Since the war was over, Angelica and John moved to England, hence why she said "don't forget to write." Also, Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr were never actually friends, they kinda just tolerated each other and worked together a bit, so Aaron Burr had no issue exposing Hamilton for anything that Burr heard.
Sorry that was a lot but I have way more that I'm going to yap about in part 2.

Hamilton wants to have his own command leading actual troops into battle so he can make a name for himself in the fight against the British but you have to remember he’s very young still at this point, just out of college (maybe 18-19). Washington sees the great promise in young Hamilton so by allowing him to be his secretary Hamilton gets a front seat to the goings on of the war and can help with Washington’s campaign against the British succeed.
And Hamilton is considered his right hand man because he is an excellent writer (Secretary) who’s power of persuasion and organization is almost unmatched and that is very valuable to Washington’s efforts to strategize and fight off the British Troops while simultaneously keeping the support of the revolutionary rebels who are attempting to break free from the Kings rule in order to govern themselves.
The characters in this play basically created the USA from scratch but in order to do so they had to first be independent from British rule 🎉

I've seen this musical so many times when it had come out and I only now see a funny little thing with the opening song. When you see the Schuyler sisters each sing "I loved him" you could interpret it as all three of the sisters being into him at one point. BUT since Peggy's actress ALSO plays as Ms. Mariah Reynolds it's a lowkey nod to his infidelity in the future. It's been so many years and I JUST got that lmaoo

Hamilton saying “if you stand for nothing, Burr, what’ll you fall for?” was actually a paraphrase of something that Hamilton wrote in an essay to persuade Colonists to ratify the American Constitution. The actual quote is “if you stand for nothing, you’ll fall for anything” (this is my favorite quote of any founding fathers, so I was happy it was put in the musical)

Just so you understand back then the main form of communication was letters so it was not odd for Angelica to say to Hamilton to remember to write. They are brother and sister in law.
In real life they most likely did not have any affair. They did write some rather affectionate letters but that’s about it. Angelica was already married when she first met Hamilton and was in England with her husband for the majority of Eliza and Hamilton marriage. Eliza and Hamilton had eight children total.

Yes! I love the Stage show terminologies that Lin sneaks into his shows. My favorite in this show is “(enter me), he says in parentheses”. My favorite overall is “lights up” when the lights go up in the opening of “In the Heights”. The “In the Heights one fits parallel with “waiting in the wings for you” because several actors are waiting in the wings when that line is sung.

This isn't at all an angry correction--you did a great job at piecing things together from a very lyrically dense show, and I just really like talking about history!
In Right Hand Man (George Washington's first number), Hamilton is appointed as Washington's chief aide, which did come with an officer's rank but not one as high as being second in command of the whole Continental Army. There were lots of other generals and lower-ranking officers who were under Washington--Lafayette was appointed as a major general at 19!
Also in Right Hand Man, they're trying to defend New York (and later New Jersey) against a British invasion. The Continental Army failed to defend Manhattan and was forced further upstate. What we think of now as New York City was almost entirely under British control for most of the Revolutionary War!

alexander hamilton and john laurens are thought to have been in a secret relationship because of some words in different letters. Like “I wish, my dear Laurens, that it might be in my power, by action, rather than words, to convince you that I love you." and “You should not have taken advantage of my sensibility to steal into my affections without my consent.” Some historians can even prove it by just the letters.

If you enjoy the rap in this i suggest looking up Freestyle Love Supreme. It was started by Lin (Hamilton), Chris Jackson(Washington), Daveed Diggs(Lafayette/Jefferson) and several others when they were in college. Look for video with the OGs. The group is still around but obviously after this the OGs blew up and only periodically get back back to perform.

Keep in mind there are some significant liberties taken with the history, Lin Manuel Miranda admits that he forgot parts of the Skyler's history when writing the musical - like all the boys in the family and the fact that Angelica never had a romantic relationship with Hamilton, she was already married when they met.
