Technology is about money too. I am a radiologist. There are multiple softwares and technologies now available to increase the imaging and reporting quality. For that you have to pay huge. At the end of the day no hospital no government pay for that. I was working in a government hospital with PACS system and HMIS system. We used to report only using this system. No PDF copy saved. After 1 year government failed to pay the software company and they ceased all of them. All data lost with in few seconds. I think in near future in india noone will pay for AI. Its costlier than human work actually.
Of course- the question I tried to raise is whether our health care orgs are ready to take that cost.. but with the tech cost, I believe a lot of other costs will come down- but people or system doesn’t realize that
@@UnlearnWithAjmal thts why i said not in near future. One thing technology completely changed was film screen radiology. It doesn't exist now in the medical field. It was there 6 years back when i was a mbbs student. There is a physics text book which we study says they started to replace filim screen radiology to digital by thinking about cost-effectiveness but later it was revealed that it is more costlier ( need attached PACS for storage which is not there in majority hospitals in india, so in india the the situation may be different). If the authority is willing to install and UPDATE AI ( more important) then it will easily replace doctors and some other professionals too. Waiting for that era actually.

@@user-rw3dp4qf2j too many articles available. Check the RSNA one. Most of them say radiologists will also evolve to work side by side with AI. I don't know how many of us will get time and opportunity to update ourselves. Your HOD in the department may not be that strong in MRI reporting like the juniors. Some of them failed to update. For us also the same. They only don't know MR. We will have more things to learn in the coming years. The "FIT" one will survive. I recently studied a lot about this. I think AI has no limits. It's in the developing phase. And when people say AI dont imagine a robot sitting in front of a system and checking images. I am telling you that we radiologists already work along with AI. Calcium score of vessels, other dual energy ct applications, elastography, brain atrophy and volume calculation, perfusion imaging all are partly AI. For interpretation of these imaging methods there is no need for human beings. A good technician or radiologist has to monitor the scan for probable machine or patient errors.

Choosing a career is not just dependent on where opportunities are- it also depends on where your skills are aligned. Now whichever profession is choose today- I shall be taking care of following two things:
1. I shall be updated with tech happenings around world
2. I will build strong soft skills
The main hold of doctors are that nobody can prescribe medicine or do surgery other than registered medical practitioner. If this law changes then AI will come in medical field. But IMA and doctors will oppose it with tooth and nail. This signatory requirement is slow going away in accounting, electrical, and civil. In judiciary it is still there.

I think that’s an interesting question - I don’t think AI will replace a psychiatrist- but, it may help in diagnosing people quickly. It may take out subjectivity from mental health diagnosis- also may push more towards scan based diagnosis

Hi dude . As the CEO of NVIDIA recently said the era of AI One Shot is almost finished and the dawn AI Multishot is in the horizon which means AI models will need only small datasets to come to a conclusion as we humans do - its like 'few shot learning'. Moreover "AGI" will be coming by 2029 or 2030.
The most basic problem that need to be addressed and discussed is that how should we align with AI ethically and responsibly. If we couldn't achieve AI alignment then AI will become the last invention of our civilization - I'm not exaggerating but pointing the fact that the R & D of Ethical and responsible AI should be our prime priority and I am personally happy that some renowned AI experts have started an initiative called "SSI - Secure Super Intelligence ".

What’s crazy is the money saved from an AI diagnosis if we can keep this in the hands of the people. My uncle was charged INR 22 lac for a diagnosis before we even started talking about treatment for bone cancer(KERALA) because it took “expert” after expert so long to figure out what was happening. And then treatment felt like it was spit-balled too. By experts. Expensive experts. AI in medicine should take over sooner rather than later. They can’t do worse than we’re doing now.

As you said, i dont think weather it will make a drastic reduction in the amount of treatment or diagnosis (may be it can get hiked by 30- 50 per). But the sensitivity and specivicity of diagnosis defently increase, afterall it is what this same ct /mri /pet scan which make the diagnosis

I don’t think it’s just about cost of a scan- they wil be a lot of associated overhead which could be reduced with decreased diagnosis time as well as accuracy . A lot of otherwise unnecessary procedures could be avoided

With cloud native applications and CI/CD pipelines with process automation with AI, computer software engineering will go through similar changes. A conventional computer software engineer will have difficulty finding a job. Only getting expertise in the latest technologies and constantly updating oneself for new innovations in computer software engineering will ensure that you can keep your current job.

Even long before AI internet has made things far better. It has exposed the poor quality of doctors in every speciality. For example most Psychiatrists in India had no clue about bipolar depression - they would give antidepressants which was incorrect treatment. But this information was available in the newsgroups of the 90s.
So psychiatry as a speciality would disappear with AI. It has been a pseudoscience most cases and with the latest diet (ketogenic diet) as medicine treatment, psychiatrists can in fact be replaced by AI.
