KC & The Sunshine Band - Live in Miami (1975)

- Опубліковано 9 чер 2019
- KC and the Sunshine Band is an American disco and funk band, founded in 1973 in Hialeah, Florida.[1][2] Their best-known songs include the hits "That's the Way (I Like It)", "(Shake, Shake, Shake) Shake Your Booty", "I'm Your Boogie Man", "Keep It Comin' Love", "Get Down Tonight", "Boogie Shoes", "Please Don't Go" and "Give It Up". The band took its name from lead vocalist Harry Wayne Casey's last name ("KC") and the "Sunshine Band" from KC's home state of Florida, the Sunshine State. The group had six top 10 singles, five number one singles and one number two single on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
The band was formed in 1973 by Harry Wayne Casey (KC), a record store employee and part-timer at TK Records in Hialeah, Florida. KC originally called the band KC & The Sunshine Junkanoo Band, as he used studio musicians from TK and a local Junkanoo band called the Miami Junkanoo Band. He was introduced to Richard Finch, who was engineering records for TK, and the Casey-Finch musical collaboration began. They were soon joined by Jerome Smith (June 18, 1953 - July 28, 2000) and drummer Robert Johnson, both TK studio musicians.
The first few songs, "Blow Your Whistle" (September 1973) and "Sound Your Funky Horn" (February 1974), were released as singles, and did well enough on the U.S. R&B chart and overseas that TK wanted a follow-up single and album. However, while working on demos for KC & the Sunshine Band, the song "Rock Your Baby" (George McCrae) was created, featuring Smith on guitar, and became a number one hit in 51 countries in mid-1974. The band's "Queen of Clubs", which featured uncredited vocals by McCrae, was a hit in the UK, peaking at #7, and they went on a tour there in 1975.
With the release of the self-titled second album KC and the Sunshine Band in 1975 came the group's first major U.S. hit with "Get Down Tonight". It topped the R&B chart in April and hit number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in August. "That's the Way (I Like It)" also became a number one hit. - wikipedia

Part of the fabric of our lives if you were born in the eighties, seventies or before. Thanks for posting!
Those horn players sure earned their money that night.
Back when funk and color didnt matter. Everybody just boogied down! MIxed band. Funk was funk.
Thank you for saying that....everybody just funked.❤
It’s actually disco. Funk is a different type of music 😊
The 70s were the shit!
Color never mattered in the music industry and among musicians.
That was Discos thing…total inclusion…in the beginning. This is not funk, too structured.
The bass guitarist handling his business. Three beautiful ladies backing it up. The guy in the turban taking it to another level. And KC--the funkiest white dude on the planet. Love it.
It's not easy to play his parts. There are a lot of unique accents that are difficult to replicate.
I think KC was part Cuban. Great mixed band.
@@elizabethmencia6027: Italian and Irish, I think....
The band is on point.
KC is a people person with a lot of soul and heart!
That horn section is dynamite.
Hel yea....🎷📯🎺🎺🎷🎶🎶 iam all funked up now 🎸🎶....😁
I don't think many thought KCaTSB would be timeless in 1975.
We were overwhelmed with great music from all around. Very pleased that their music has proven to be timeless and still uplifting.
They've persevered and are still touring through 2023; nearly 50 years after this 1975 concert.
This is the kind of multiracial expressions of joy, peace and love.. That is the way I like it. Awesome.
Same as Prince & The Revolution.
🎸🎹🥁
R.i.p. Jerome you were a great guitar player thank you for putting all your hard work into good music,
Left us way too early…
RIP Jerome Smith, funkiest 🎸 player!!!
Very easy to dismiss KC and the Sunshine Band as disco flash-in-the-pans, but these guys (and ladies!) sound great! No studio trickery here, just a great live band. They could bring it!
They certainly were no disco flash-in-the-pans. He still performs live shows even 45 years later now in 2023. In the UK they had around 15 hits from '74 onwards & even a no 1 in '83 with 'Give It Up'. I know in the US they were absolutely huge & had five no 1's during their string of hits that went well into the 80's. KC was also busy producing George McCrea who himself had a good run of hits for ten years or so, including his no 1 single 'Rock Your Baby' which has been recognised as Disco's first no 1single. He was and still is a forerunner of the Disco explosion & so rightly deserved the phenomenal worldwide success that the band enjoyed. So to say they were flash in the pans is really a bit of an insult considering how much KC & the Sunshine Band contributed to the happy generation of Disco. The guy deserves a freekin' medal.
...and this isn't "disco" anyway.....
Hot damn!! KC and the band always brought it! I'll always love this man. I always wanted to be 15 years older so that I could go to Woodstock and this Miami concert❣️
Totally agree! Hardly a week goes by when KC isn’t on the radio. Def not a flash in the pan. Brilliant stuff!
@@rsmith7912: Harry (KC) wrote that song for George McCrea.
This footage deserves a full restoration !
🙌🏽
This belongs in the National Archives!
@@disco76 hellz yeah!
Finally a full concert....That's a lot of SUNSHINE.

Man I so miss the 70's
So do I!
Ain't NOTHIN' wrong with this band! Love KC & The Sunshine Band! 💙💙
This is what happens when the Soul/Funk/R&B/Latin sound is fused together! ❤️
Yes, it’s called Disco.

I remember being a kid in the 70s and listen to this stuff it was awesome😊
Talented American band
Geez, I was 17 when this was recorded and never thought of the band as being serious musicians and they are awesome!
This performance is so good. I wish artists today would embrace this!
No one has this kind of talent, anymore.
I'm 55 years old...this is my first time watching this.....AWESOME!!!!!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Lots of energy on that stage.
I just want to know who are the freaking idiots that gave this a thumbs down as a bass player myself the bass player was killing it if you gave this a thumbs down you must be young and like that crap they call music today
You should see the crazy looks I got when I told young people I was going to see KC in August. I blame their parents, I grew up listening to everything from Boston Pops to Lynn Anderson, to Ray Charles and Elvis.
diffrnt strokes for diffrnt folks
A big fan of KC from Holland
Nessa época eu estava com 14 anos, hoje com 62 e ainda curto essa banda inesquecível ❤❤❤
Bell-bottoms and platform shoes and brim hats.. bring back them days🤣
…a mid seventies Fender Jazz Bass coming through an Ampeg SVT bass rig. This is absolute music to my ears. Much of the appeal of this act are the neat and tidy bass figures - and I feel many didn’t even realize it. People react to a easy, funky beat by dancing - not realizing that it’s the bass they’re dancing to! (Well, the drums come first.) That’s the thing with us bass players…we’re secretly in control of the entire operation. All I hear in this film is bass and I love it. It’s so freakin good. Finch exhibits a great amount of discipline in his playing. As I listen here I’m playing all kinds of fills in my head…all the while Richard just keeps to the root. He’s a true pro - and co-wrote their biggest hits!
Amen brother. The bass line is effin tight and so are the drums ! I respect the bass players.
Was at this concert back in the day. Was really great in person. Great times.
I WISH I had been there!
KC and The Sunshine Band is legend!!
Hialeah IN DA HOUSE!! I went to high school with KC and he sold me MANY records when he worked at Recordsville (yes, that really was the name of the record store). The UNDISPUTED King of Funky Disco!! And yes, GIVE IT UP FOR THE MUSICIANS - THEY'RE THE BEST!! Nudie made the FABULOUS outfits!!
Nude did a fantastic job, the band looks as exciting as they sound!
Nudie
The song AIN'T NOTHING WRONG is SO beautiful it makes me want to to cry! Where is that (DeLorean) time machine, I want to go back, NOW!
Gorgeous bass playing, great guitar, the drummer is on point and damn the horn players can dance! Wicked show and notice how the crowd slowly shifted from fairly reserved 'seat groovers' to full on 'get down' mode as the concert moved along?....
Started out a bit shaky with the bass not working. As they move through the set, they light a fire. Man that back line is smoking hot. Such a great band. Fantastic backing vocals and those horns are incredible. Casey is real solid. Oh to have been there.

Love 😘 the originals.
I saw him in the early 90's
Music track, him in two African American ladies.
He was lip syncing and danced a few vulgar moves.
I left before it was even over.
Wasted time.
Gracias por los nombres de las canciones.

Thanks for the break down that’s the way I like it 🎉

A funky bass line, the guitar has a rockabilly blue-grass funk feel to it.The keyboards have a pop-jazz atmosphere sound to it.The Horns are just magic-magnificent.

this band totally jams... rock it!
Some of the tightest funk you'll ever hear, rocks my soul
Wow they sound great! What a groovy time.
I love KC AND THE SUNSHINE BAND!!!!
They killed it....70's Greatest era of all times....When racism were at an all time low....For the most part, everybody got along...50 years later, all gone to hell...So glad I was born to witness such greatness as KC, and many others during this time
Racism only seems greater today because the media makes a big ordeal out of essentially nothing. That is why it is important to get away from such news outlets such as CNN and MSNBC. They are controlled by the globalists that have an agenda. "Racism" is a political tool to control the masses. If anything, there are probably more successful black people who are succeeding and thriving today than ever before.
@@MORCOPOLO0817: Well said - THANK YOU!!!!
💯🙌🏻🎯🔥 couldn’t agree more. I was only a child when this concert happened. Definitely don’t remember as much hate happening back then compared to today’s time. Well, since the late 2000’s, Specifically 2008 till today’s time. A certain president is the cause of such division. 2008-2016.
The song @ 16:58 is a deep funky groove with drummer, bass player and the rhythm guitar player in a deep funky pocket. 😎
Good ear to catch that!!!
Don't forget the percussionist too
Yeah they groovin' 🔥
They didn't slow down for a second. Damn!
How on earth do you have air to sing. This is an athlete! Awesome
39:35 Just found out today the name of the funky dancer (trumpeter), Ronnie Smith.
I've been seeing him do his thing on several videos and just loved his moves! Sadly, he died at 59, being in a coma for a long time after a carjacking went wrong. Love you always, Ronnie!
Awww, that's so sad that he died so young!! Thanks for the info.

Underrated band. Love them.
They pretty much ruled the world between 1975 and 1977. "Underrated" isn't really an accurate description.
@@Modes9 except for the fact that you hardly hear them on the radio anymore.
