I used to draw in my notes while studying (along with rhymes, songs, acronyms, colors). It helped me retain big chunks of information. I would draw an my scrappaper during an exam at university and write down the answer so easily. Some people that saw it thought it was weird. But it worked for me. I saw this video yesterday and I never realised this was a thing, or a job even.
So I did one yesterday evening and it felt like a revelation! My memorie isn’t good and I have a problem remembering positive stuff. So I would love to make a diary of special days, but I don’t like writing. This is a great solution for me!! I feel like I can write a diary (and quickly read it) without that much writing and being able to express myself with drawing and colors and drawing letters. I only would like to add painting some day and knitting and crocheting and then all my creative outlets would be in there! 😄 I love it. Thank you both for opening my eyes! I really really would like to thank you!!!!!!!
My dad did this kind of thing all over the pages of his notebooks from his mechanic training classes when he was in the Army during WWII. I got to see them first when I was about 10 years old and I found I did the same thing in my notebooks when I went to trade school and workshops/ classes of the more technical nature throughout my life.
I had no idea it had a name or I could be a job but I will say that at one point one of my instructors saw my notes and asked to look through my book. The result was he was so impressed with them that he got me a job with the school as a tutor!
The dean said it showed that I understood the subject matter better than just written words.
I always just saw it as an opportunity of be creative like my dad. He had gone to art school before and after the war and he was a real artist as was my sister. I just doodle.
Anyway, this was very interesting and enlightening. Thanks for the lesson!
patrick farley Thanks for sharing your story! That’s so cool!
I've been in college, in technical training, and it various art classes, and I never heard the word "Sketchnoting", so I suspect it's a fairly new term. Cool story about your dad.
I do the same, to understand subject matters more quickly and being able to remember them 😊 I love your story, thanks for sharing.
Super interesting story!
im curious! how did you sketchnote technical stuff? im studying engineering and i cant seem to think of a way to do sketchnoting for it
Oh my goodness the fun never ends on this channel. Thank you so much Becca, I truly appreciate who you are and what you share with us. Mind blowing I tell ya!
I loved this so much, tried to sketch note notes from this class too 😁 there were lot of times when I wanted to document my travels and make my lecture notes more memorable, this class was perfect! Loved Emily’s clear articulation of the purpose, laying out her process so beginners can easily get started. Thank you so much Becca for all of these wonderful resources 😍 for someone who wants to try multiple things in arts and Crafts, your channel is perfect in exposing the multitude of options! Thank you!!
I had no idea about sketch notes, but for past few days this is what I have been doing. This is how I am even studying some important topics, while making my notes. So motivated watching your video.
Excellent video! This was very simple and straightforward, making me feel fully competent to do this. Although I have always combined elements in my note taking, even in primary school, I have never felt very confident in adding illustrations. This makes it so simple.
This has got ot be the best video i have seen thus far on someone speaking genuinely about their profession and the benefits and how to help others who are without the skill ( or a skill they haven't polished ) and how to try to start.. thanks for making this video. I had to get through so much 'junk' to get to you. hooray i found you,
This has to be one of my favorite series, on your channel.
I LOVE this video! It is exactly what I would like to do in my daily journal, but had no idea where to begin, thank you so much!!!!
Starts at 5:00
Thanks
I LOVED this!!! Thank you! I’ve always loved doing that sort of thing, but I never thought I could draw. Now I feel empowered to just draw simple things and just have fun!
Thank you so much for creating this!!! I always want to draw...or just doodle in my journals, but I feel like I can't draw. My dad was a cartoonist and I always wished I had his talent. If there was a piece of paper lying around the house, my dad would leave a little doodle on it!! I have been looking for a creative outlet and this has encouraged me to practice. Just joined the course!!
loved this! you made it is so easy to follow. i didn't know this is something i wanted to do until now.
I've never seen this before, I enjoyed having a go at that. I think it's better than a diary. Thanks for your time and sharing.
Thank you! I have never heard of sketchnoting before and I have been looking for some way to plan I want my characters and books so that I remember more. I think I have found what I'm looking for. Looking forward to trying it.
Can't wait to add this to my bullet journal 😊
Hay! I am not alone! I have done this since I was a kid. I still do this, makes me feel special. XD
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I loved this! This is how I have taken notes for my whole life- I didn’t even know it was a “thing”, I have met a few others like me and it’s so much fun to look at each other’s notebooks! I subscribed to your channel awhile ago because I was looking to improve my writing style to bump up my journaling skills- you have taught me so much!
The two of you together are a dynamic duo (Insert picture of Batman & Robin)!
😉👍🏼 I’m getting that book!
This was sooo helpful, thanks to both of you!!! 🙌🏻
Thank you for this video Becca and Emily!
I enjoyed this thoroughly. I do use this concept in my scrapbooking, and great ideas for my journaling and journaling calendars.🕊🦋🌻
I loved this content, thanks for sharing. Made me smile at so many items.
Great video! Thank you so much for introducing this great resource. Cheers!
This was fantastic. I figured this would be just another way of sketching and writing, but sketchnoting really is a category of it's own. Emily is a good teacher and this was enjoyable. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you. That was inspiring. I’m going to give this a try.
This was really neat. I've always struggled with note taking. I'm going to try this. Bullet notes are not my friend, lol
Thanks for sharing this video and the information, I had absolutely no clue has to what you talking about in the beginning completely unaware of it. I really enjoyed this lesson it sounds like so much fun. I have a couple ideas I want to try out now.
Very inspiring video! Another avenue of expression I must explore!
What a fabulous video. 😍 Absolutely loving your channel and content...it's so enjoyable and inspiring!!!❣Thank you so much for getting my creative juices flowing again.
Hi Dears Thank you so much for this lovely and engrossing video post ..Im clastrophobic and My husband advised me drawing while traveling in a plane; which really helps me! On the same note, i think this notesketching will also help people in times of anxiety to take their mind of stressful situations and make it memorable and relaxing to remember how they came out of the situation unharmed ☺️Glad I found you both❤️❤️❤️❤️Stay Blessed 🌷
Thank you so much! I really enjoyed this this little lesson on Sketchnoting. I have seen this before, in ads etc., But I never knew what it was called.

GREAT for traveling!
Thank you for this class!
Fascinating video. Never heard of sketch noting before. Very informative.
Omg so cool. I’m an old fashioned note-taker so this a neat twist to it...I’ve seen this work on a work video...done by an artist, didn’t realize it’s a thing I can do!
Loved this! I'll give it a try!
This is a very interesting technique that I can't wait to try! I'm really interested in the lecture-based notes as well and would like to see some examples. :)
This was wonderful. I use to use Mind Map, but it was all computerized. I like this idea because it is all hands on!
Wow!! Highly impressed 💕 Starting now
This was so interesting. Thank you.
Great video! I learned so much and think I can do this with your easy tricks and tips!
Fantastic video! Thanks so much!
Thank you for this 😊
Loved it!!!
Wonderful video.!! Just what I have been wanting to do since ages but din't know how to.. I am one of those 'want- to - learn- to- sketch- but - am- not - artistic'- types. Thank you soo much for this truly inspirational video!!!
This is fascinating.
Even though I don't have an artistic molecule in my whole body, I'm interested in any least giving this a try.
Thanks for the lesson!👍🏻
This is wonderful!!! Thank you.
Thank you for sharing this! I’ve been doing what I call ‘book journaling’ recently but I think it’s really more of this Sketchnotes kind of thing, I guess lecture based even tho I’m reading Hahhaha nice to have a name for it though. Thank you!!
Sermon notes about to be 🔥🔥🔥
This reminded me of my college days. My anatomy and my microbiology notes were sketchnoting and I had no idea!!!
This is an excellent and informative video.
This look like my diary, journals, and note pads. I enjoy the lesson. I thought it was just me,but it's good to know it's also out there.
Now that I have a better understanding on this concept, I have been using it to take sermon notes in my A6 journal. Oh what fun it is. Thank you for using a visual learning too in a way I could understand. Both you and Emily. Thank you so much.
Awesome I enjoyed each item I learnt here. I will have to re-watch the video.
Thank you 👍
Thank you, you made it so simple and easy.
This is just amazing! You are a great teacher who is very concise and clear and easy to follow. Your examples are fantastic and give me enough skill to do this on my own without being all over the place. I am so excited to start my notebook. Thank you for taking the time to show us. Do you have a UA-cam Chanel or a book?
Thank you so much! Your videos are interesting and helpful!
Really helpful!
I'm so excited about this topic!!!! I never knew why my brain work that why, at school I used to think I was weird, but I took the type of memory test, and realized that I had visual memory, and I'm working on my middle schooler with same visual memory as me, so this is absolutely necessary for us!!!!
mayday arguello I wish I’d known about this when my son was young, creative thinker and would get bored in school. This would have been a huge help to him.
@@kathywilson2877 I know!!!!! This should be reached at school, cause it is definitely a tool!
Bought your book and love it, I am still working my way through but have decided to reccomend this to my students!
Thank you, Sheila!
Thank you very helpful
This was fun! .. tfs .. 🤗
This was great Thank.
Loved your video.
I have always wanted to sketchnote, 15 min in and this is the best tutorial in any medium on the internet
Thanks for watching! Hope it was helpful.
I love this technique!!
Just experimenting with this, awesome information! 😀
that was so helpful, thanks
Excellent, it arrived just when i needed!! I just love it!!
Great tips!!!! 🚙
I love this concept of sketchnoting. It combines the best of art journalling and bullet journalling. I can't wait to give it a try. Thanks so much for introducing it to me.
Wow 😍 my first time hearing the " sketchnoting " and I love how she draws. tried while watching. It turned out pretty good.
Thanks for this video 😘
This is just amazing
Amaaaaaazing!thank you
Hi Becca! Thanks you for these videos, they are more than useful. I love your doodle/travel journal, do you plan to have a video about that too? Or maybe you already did a tutorial or a workbook on this subject and I missed It?! Thanks :)
this is a great video!
This is great! Thank you so much Emily :) BTW your book is excellent and I've left a review for you on Amazon. Happy Sketchnoting!
Thank you!
I 😍 this
Thank u so much 👍
I've been taking notes like this for over two decades but they were never client facing. I would sketch down ideas and a road map like this and then transcribe into notes for clients or who ever else needed them. @emily thank you for this presentation. Do you do this in real time and present to the client or the audience or is it something that comes shortly after the presentation?
Thank You
Great content! 😊❤️👍
Oh! So informative, well explained and I love how you demonstrated it ☺️ I’m so glad I came across this video ☺️ Thank you so much, Emily and Becca, for sharing this with us ☺️
Amei seu trabalhando ❤
Nice work!
This might be interesting to do to explain a trip to a penpal in a letter. Like a travel map.
I do all journaling digitally.... any suggestions? I use Goodnotes and iPad.
Did not know that "sketchnote" thing : great discovery !! Thanks to you both !
I want to do this on fabric, for a quilt squares.
It looks like a mind map. Weirdly as someone who considers myself an artist, I have never been able to do it. I thought it was maybe because I have aphantasia but mum (who is a professional artist and owns her own art gallery) said she's never been able to do it either :o I do take a lot of notes though. I scribble them all over my pages, and somehow my brain retains the info and remembers where they are :D
This was an interesting video thanks! ^_^
😊 so good
