- The tabok tayok is the method of stick handling and exchanges. In the Inosanto Kali system we use it as a method of warming up, loosening the wrists, and increasing coordination. It is applied in close quarter hitting, navigating the opponents guard, countering disarms and more. The Florette is a quick double hit that uses the wrist for a fast action. Quicker but not as heavy as the redondo strike we covered a few segments ago.
Good stuff 👍
Thanks for watching and the great comment!
Excellent material, thank you 👍
The small circular technique were also designed for multiple slashes by a long thin blade, causing more damage than a single strike along a line, especially since the weapon would be light
Thank you...
I was taught that when you roll the stick to keep firm grip on the stick as you roll it, because if your stick gets hit mid twirl, it can get easily knocked out of your hand. Is there a reason you let go so much? You have a good teaching manner. Nice presentation.
That’s a good viewpoint, I was taught that as well! It’s really hard (I realized after filming) to see in the video but I don’t advocate letting go. All my fingers are connected, but the space between the little finger and the palm opens. This helps create snap and power upon completing the roll. It also allows for a more narrow roll making it easier it navigate the guard or limbs of an opponent without creating an opening yourself. Hope that helps! Thanks for the feedback, you just inspired me for the idea on the next kali vid! Appreciate you, thanks
Thank you so much Joe! I finally understood how switching hands works over the triceps. Got REEEEAAALLY frustrated with trying to fish the stick behind my shoulder :)
Please allow me one question:
What is it with the padding with the arm without the Stick on the thigh or on the biceps/forearm of the stickarm? Why do you do it and in what rhythm?
Maybe it’s an idea for another video as well :)

Alex Kahl any time! Some people go over the shoulder but I prefer the triceps. Good catch on the question! It’s to keep the off hand active, and it sometimes gives support to the weapon hand depending on where it travels and when. Great idea for a video, I’ll try to make that in a week or two! Thanks for checking out the channel!
