      Memphis Ten-a-key I tell my husband that all the time. After watching a video my husband always comments on how good FlemLo is. I’m not a big fan of talking heads. Most get on my last nerve and it’s good we don’t have SLAP VISION yet because when one goes off on a holier than thou rant about a player I would be slapping their face off. But I could listen to FL everyday. He gets in depth on these young men’s lives not just focusing on their athletic talent but the trials they have gone through, about their hearts. He cares. It’s refreshing in these times.

    As a physician myself, I agree with you but I think there is an important additional point to make. I have seen some of the videos by physicians that you are referring to where they say that you cannot necessarily call this CTE. I do understand their point, and while I personally suspect that AB has some degree of CTE, that really doesn't even matter. In an interview with AB sometime after the hit, he states that he did in fact lose consciousness for a period of time immediately following the hit. In the medical field, a traumatic blow to the head resulting in loss of consciousness is by definition considered to be at least a Mild Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). It is very well known that TBI's can very well result in a variety of symptoms such as impulsivity, personality changes, mood disorders, etc. To address the point that some people bring up that he was like this in the past, it is also important to point out that people with premorbid behavioral problems who sustain a TBI can very much have these issues amplified as a result.

    • @brock8993

      Wouldnt surprise me if he if he had borderline or bi polar tendencies/ traits before that were amplified after brain trauma. • @Deeplycloseted435
    @Deeplycloseted435 5 років тому +58

    He doesn’t have to have CTE for a head injury to effect his personality, mental health, and behavior. ONE concussion in life, increases the likelihood of mental health problems (depression, anxiety, psychosis, sleep disturbances, hyper/hypo-sexuality, etc)
    I’m a doctor BTW, and have worked a lot of years in traumatic brain injury recovery units.
    Now, we don’t know how many other concussions AB has had in his football career. Likely, he has had others. We can’t say for sure though. It only takes ONE. I’ve had concussions, all in my youth.....2 definite KO situations. I suffered from insomnia as a teen and depression, which may/may not be linked.....but it did happen. Doesn’t mean they are the cause, but those incidents did make those issues more likely.
    Everyone’s brain is different. Trauma, either physical or emotional, can unlock psychological issues that are just underneath the surface. Everyone’s issues can be different, and everyone’s threshold is different.
    This is why EVERYONE, kids and adults, whether biking, skating, or whatever....should always wear a helmet. It is so dumb not to. One injury can CHANGE YOUR LIFE forever. I’ve seen families devastated by traumatic brain injury. I’ve seen intelligent mild-mannered young people, turn into hyper-aggressive, violent, hyper-sexualized....just a dramatic personality change, and it so hard for the family to understand why their son or daughter, is now “a completely different person”. Its very sad when its severe. Not severe enough to cause permanent physical and cognitive disability, but severe enough to keep then from getting a job, having a family, and enjoying life.
    Wear your goddamn helmet!!!! Don’t care if your kid is scootering or hover boarding.....they don’t need to be going fast....always wear a helmet. Adults bicycling? YES!!! Its not random bike accidents that are the primary concern, but rather drivers who are on their phones. Again, I’ve seen devastating injuries from car on bike accidents with no helmet involved.

      @Deeplycloseted435 5 років тому +9

      Sam okay dude.....where did I ever say that the concussion had everything to do with the helmet? Is English your first language?
      I cannot believe how dumb people are sometimes, which is why I never comment on this crap. You’re literally nit-picking my comment, hoping to correct me and get some living in mom’s basement thrill.
      OF COURSE concussions occur with football helmets. Never said they didn’t. What I said, was people should wear helmets more often, when doing other activities, to prevent brain injury, including concussion.
      Your statement that helmets ONLY prevent skull fracture is false. Yes, two 250 pound men running full speed into each other is going to cause a concussion with or without a helmet. People on bicycles, skates, skateboards, whatever.....simply the act of falling backwards onto the concrete, a helmet can most certainly prevent concussion. I personally have a close friend, who now needs 24 hour care, because she was hit by a car on her bicycle on the way home from work. No helmet, no skull fracture.....she now operates at about a 4 to 5 year old cognitive level. She has two children, and a husband, and its AWFUL. Had she worn a helmet, would she have sustained brain injury? Considering the severity, its very possible, but most certainly would have been nowhere near as severe.
      You watched a football documentary on CTE. I went to school until I was 30. I’m talking about brain injury in general, not just football. BTW, you can sustain skull fracture even with a helmet on. I’ve seen a guy who was riding his motorcycle at 120mph, and came up behind a truck going 50mph. He put his helmeted head through the back gate of the truck bed at a speed of 70mph, sustaining an open skull fracture. I don’t know what came of him, but he survived his surgery.

My mood will change and I have now accepted my limitations. But I also hav e a great support system . My wife and family keep me centered but in browns case it can manifest in many forms. It could very well be from the hit but generally it takes many hits over time to start to show. He needs someone he can trust that will set him down and give him strait talk. But the bottom line it get worse over time and there is no cure. Funny thing is if I could do it all over, I would still play, I just love the game.
