You need some concrete Lego blocks to scrape against and then you can move them with a strap and the tractor when you want to open the gap to move stock around.
Its was a fantastic day when the old family (Abi, Josh & Gus) meet the new family (Moo calves) and become the "Back My Place" family. In the long term Josh, a skid steer with a grapple would be great for cleaning out, but it all costs money, so as they say, slow and steady wins the race and you can adapt in time.
Excellent first video folks nice filming Abbie your giving Josh a few tips there your calves look well we have a masterclip battery shears mother bought them for me for Christmas last year great job for the cattle and sheep PS I knew Gus was a Massey man🙂
What a great video Josh nice to see you and Abie working together on you're new farming adventure wishing you all the luck in the world Looking forward to following along so keep those videos coming
Great forking video! Looked like a great forking time. The couple that forks together............, etc etc etc. Nice to see y'all making it a family project. I wonder if Cockers can be trained to herd? I remember watching Dr. Phil mucking out that barn on one of his videos and thinking a skidsteer or something would make a better option than the tractor.
Would a simple grab on top of the bucket working of the third hydraulic work? I sure a top section could be bought cheap enough and just weld on the pin points go the bucket. A old sh grab with the bottom section broke up might have all the pins, ram and pipes…, good luck in the new venture 👍
"Sheep heifers" made me laugh while "boy calves" and "girl calves" made me smile so much my cheeks ached. On a serious note Abi's jeans are a lovely fit, ideal for climbing over gates! 👍
A better idea for your scooping up surely would be to just push it all out the passageway and scoop up against the grass banking? You could put a concrete wall section at the end but it'd be sods law that as soon as you did that, you'd find a job that would be easier done without it being there? Really enjoying your vids on starting your own herd!
I did think of that. I could push it out the end and then have something around the corner to push it against! I know what you mean, I’d instantly regret fixing a panel in place!
I wish you and Abbey the best in your new adventure into your own farming life,I was brought up on our family dairy farm worked on it till I was 28 loved it but uncle sold it after grandparents past I was gutted anyway I'm in construction now,I'm 54 but I love farming wish I'd took over farm but it was impossible at time miss milking cows and farming, once its in ya blood it stays ,are you and Abbey from farming backgrounds ?
Thank you very much! That’s a shame! Abi’s family are dairy farmers and contractors. My dad was is a farmers son, my uncle now has the farm they grew up on. So it’s kind of in my family too, but they are near London so a long way from us!
just wondering if a couple of railway sleepers at the end of scrap passage to push against 🤔 might be easier to remove when need too . keep up the good work 👍
Have you told Dr Phil you have a new breed back at North Wyke, Those SheHeifers are going to produce some interesting offspring lol. Good job Abi knows the difference between male and female lol. So are the male calf's bulls or steers they will want to be getting into the heifers once they are near 12 mnth old.. 😃 especially the escape artist lol.. Good luck with the new venture. looking forward to the upcoming vids
Perhaps I’m onto a winner here with sheheifers! Yes they are steers, rubber ringed at birth! Just didn’t want the heifers next to the bully boy! ☺️ thank you!
@BackMyPlace No. Let her climb the gate. She sure has the jeans for the job.😍 Congratulations on getting the shed. I know feeling. My wife and I started with 2 calves in coal houes, with a 95% mortgage on house. Then, I started renting farms. I'm 54 now and own 280 acres, tho not all paid for yet, but I'm loving every day. Enjoy your days at your age as our past 35 years have just vanished at a worrying speed.
@@samuelrobinson9012 Oh god I'll be in trouble with all these comments about her jeans! 🙈It sounds like you are living the dream! Not sure where we will end up but I'm sure we will have fun finding our way there!
Clipster battery clipper’s fantastic machine I use on both cattle an sheep 👌
Good job that’s what I bought then! 😂
🤣👍
Nice one enjoyed fine looking cattle 🐄🚜👍🏴
Thanks Glyn! 🙌🏼👍🏼
Good morning Mr & Mrs Young farmers , plus Gus.😊
Good morning! A cold one in Devon!
A cild one in Edinburgh too.😊@BackMyPlace

Thats a good idea! I'll have a chat with phil, it might be we can make a proper bunker for the muck to go in outside the shed
Thats a nice idea
Wow, that muddy lane in from of the shed needs some rock on it. Very glad that you have your own cows now. Lots of hard work for sure.
It’s normally bone dry, we’ve just had a biblical amount of rain it’s pouring out the fields and straight across the lane at the moment! 😞
Great set up you have there Josh 👌
Thanks Gary!
Exciting times, enjoy ever minute. Good luck, hope all works out well. You are a lovely couple.
Thank you very much Robert!

Thanks Paul! Thanks for the clipper feedback too! He's a tractor dog definitely! I'm not sure he's fussed which colour though!
Well done team, great work
Thanks Toni! Teamwork makes the dream work!

😂😂 I’m sure they can be! The super serious farmer uses a spaniel to round his sheep up! I think that’s the way forward! All in good time!
Hi Josh and Abi nice little set up you have there, great to see you are having enjoyment out of your new adventure 😊 take care all the very best.
Thanks John! A great way to spend the weekend! 😊

Thats a good idea! The tractor has 3rd service pipes but I know the lever is missing in the cab! Will be something i need to ask Phil about!
So jealous! Looks a great shed too.
It’s a awesome shed, looking forward to filling it with more cattle 😊
Thanks... Shed is my pride and joy
Team work makes the dream work
It does indeed paddy!
Hi team hopefully all works out .Mr gus meeting his new fri
Gus loves the farming!
Insted of making a congcreat leaje poet some planks agenst the gate wen it closes then you can stil just drive true
Entertaining 😊😊
Glad you think so Ross!

You'll find what ways work best for you in your circumstances and with what equipment you have, that's part of the enjoyment 👍
To stop all the silage creeping into the road, could you put a trough or some breeze blocks down to create a trough
Yeah we could do something like that! 👍🏼
Great video josh and Abbi will abbi be making videos of her own cattle are looking good 👍👍👍
Thanks Sandy! I don’t think she’ll be making them on her own!
@@BackMyPlace you can give abbi a hand 🤚 josh 👍👍
Hi Sandy, nice to see you checking in
Good video Josh ye a skidsteer would be very handy there i think 👍
I think so! Need to recover some funds to get one! 😂
The Calves are looking well.
Thanks Stuart!
Recommended clippers are borrowed ones!
True, but I like to have my own. I don’t want to be that bloke that has to rely on everyone for everything 😊

Easier to sort cattle by having them stand on passage way and then turn the ones u want into the straw so they have less space to run around
They are a little bit skitty at the moment, once they get use to us that’ll work fine
just wondering if a couple of railway sleepers at the end of scrap passage to push against 🤔 might be easier to remove when need too . keep up the good work 👍
Ah yeah that could work, I need to draw out some plans I think!
Yeah always good to have a plan 👍 I don't know how the shed is built but you may be able to slot them in to the RSJ uprights
One side would slide into the I beam very nicely!

Good luck with your adventure, what are the age breed.
Thank you! So they are about 12 months old currently and are Devon Ruby Red’s
Congratulations, a great setup to get started with, better teach Abi to climb gates at the hinge end thou. Wish this was me 30 years ago......
Thanks Jon! To be fair i could have opened the gate for her!
@BackMyPlace No. Let her climb the gate. She sure has the jeans for the job.😍

A tine grab would be useful josh to push the manure and grab it, rather than piking it into the bucket. Just a idea. 👍
Yes I agree John! Not sure on the state of play with the 3rd service in the loader, the pipes are there but no lever!
@@BackMyPlace I like your idea of the skidsteer, there are very useful in small areas. Rome wasn't built in a day as the saying goes. 👍
True that!
What do you call a cow that keeps escaping? Moodini
Yes yes and yes! 😅
@@BackMyPlace allright then ! What do you call a very very cold cow? A FREEZIAN. Sorry, but you can't beat a good old Xmas cracker joke can you?
