Always a good reaction to Angelina. This was a sweet, subdued tribute to The Queen of Soul shortly after she passed. Angelina was somber from the beginning. The end fade to black for about 10 seconds is a moment of silence for the loss of Aretha, an icon. Angelina is so respectful. The end result is an amazing version of this song. I rechecked your videos and didn't see "Always On My Mind" - a song for her grandfather who had recently passed. Many do cry. Check it out. Love your appreciation of and enthusiasm for Angelina. You can even see it in her eyes that this was the loss of someone important to Angelina. She even fades out and leaves a moment of silence for Aretha at the end. Republic Records as you say "hit the jackpot" and I hope they are smart enough to let Angelina be Angelina. Angelina will be a force to reckon with. One of these days singers will be compared to the standard Angelina is leaving in music IMHO. You have always respected Angelina's work and for that I have a big thumbs up for you Eve.
This song is written by Carole King and Gerry Goffin. Carole King sang it on her famous "Tapestry" album (1971) too, but it´s written for Aretha Franklin.
I don't agree that Angelina is telling the original artist, especially an icon like Aretha, how to perform her/his song. Rather, she's saying "This is how your song has touched me. Thank you". Angelina is all about love and respect. I love Aretha's original; pure gold. Also love the freshness Angelina brought, especially in a time of sadness.
I agree, for me (for my opinion I repeat) she experiences leading to excellence, the legend songs of our music, respect is very noticeable because there are songs that she realizes that it is impossible to improve so she does them as is, as if it were an original copy putting it "Angelina style". Perhaps as they say a lot Angelina Jordan is modern Mozart, I feel her more as an arranger than as a singer, although as a singer she is at this moment one of the best contemporary singers of all time (perhaps)
