I lived very close to Ardsley Pennsylvania as a child. I regularly took these trolleys identical to this one in looks to various places, including Willow Grove Park. Additionally as a 14-year-old when the two newspapers in Philadelphia were on strike, I would go into the city to the newspaper offices and pick up 100 of each of the newspapers and bring them back to Willow Grove and sell them on the street corner. It would be nice if you did a story on Willow Grove Park on where it was at and why. If anyone is interested, I’ll tell a very short story on how we pranked those old-time trolleys on a grade..

At the intersection of Keswick Avenue and Jenkintown Road there was a 90° turn so the track could parallel Jenkintown Road heading into Ardsley . It was mandatory that the trolley stopped at the intersection and Keswick Avenue was an incline. We found out that the trolleys would have a hard time starting up after stopping on that incline if there were problems with the track being wet and an excess of power applied to start out , so we put used motor oil where the trolleys would stop so they couldn’t get traction to start again. Additionally, if you had experience with this trolleys pole in the back of the trolley, the pole contacted the hot wire above, could be disconnected by pulling down on the cable, thereby stalling the trolley.
This was about 68 years ago, and I think the statue of limitation has expired.

Wonderful! They did an awesome job, the PCC cars are beautiful. These cars are so much better looking than the new light rail cars that are used on so many lines today.

Great for who? Great for the wheelchair-bound person who doesn't work because they are collecting disability yet they come out to go where ever during rush hour while people are trying to get to work? Have you ever been late to work over your bus being delayed due to a person in a wheel chair getting on and off? THIS was one thing I loved about the trolleys is no wheel chair lifts! I was so happy when I heard the trolleys were coming back but now i'm mad.

I believe they should keep the vintage trolley look in service. Pennsylvanians love anything that has Pennsylvania History.😅 Example I found out John Heinz (Inventor of Ketchup & field of the Steelers) is Pennsylvanian Dutch & familiar with Germantown section of Philly & black people from the south came here during slavery & called PDN PA Dutch Negros & learned Dutch & becane manomites.

The company that rebuilt them back in 2004 or so didn't do a good job, SEPTA might have done better to have rebuilt the PCCs themselves back then

Boston is making a big mistake. They are planning on taking our remaining PCC's out of service. They still run on the Mattapan High-Speed line, probably the most scenic trolley ride in the country. Long may they run, Excellent job SEPTA.

The design of the PCC car is obviously too simple and reliable for today's "high-tech" society.

Miss when the 23 Trolley ran down 12th & Jefferson & 11th & Jefferson with connections to the Old Route 57 before they turned it into the 89 Bus. The 15 & 23 tracks crossed each other at 12th & 11th and Girard intersections. Yorktown/TNT🚋🚋🚉
